As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

When Should I Make Purchase and other Advice?
OK, getting a little excited here with only 491 days to go but hey, half the fun is in the planning and since we had to cancel our cruise I have this trip to look forward to and it's not getting cancelled even if I have to rob Fort Knox!
Please forgive me if I'm getting my publications confused but since this trip will be for our DGD (our goal is to take each grandchild to WDW the summer after they turn 6) I wanted to purchase what I believe is the Children's version of the Passporter? How far in advance of our trip should I make this purchase? Is this spring (her birthday) too soon, should I wait for Christmas or next spring (her birthday - about 3 months earlier then our trip)??? From this birthday on it's going to be all Disney (well it usually is anyway) but items geard toward the big trip. Which brings me to another question. What types of things can I buy for her that can be kept for the trip? I was thinking of giving her an empty box wrapped up in Disney paper to be filled by items as special events came around; Any suggestions? Everyone on this board is not only helpful but knowledgeable so I thought I'd throw that question/challenge out, I want this trip to be ever so special for her, she's had a rough go of it in her life so far.
Thanking you all in advance for your help and bring on the ideas, I'm already compiling notes from other messages! SW+7

Re: When Should I Make Purchase and other Advice?
As far as I know, there is no children's Passporter version. There are several other books available for kids. In anticipation of going with all 4 of our grandkids to WDW, I gave them Disney Dollars for all occasions and as a reward for good behavior. I also got them Disney calendars to count down their days until the trip.

Re: When Should I Make Purchase and other Advice?
Thanks so much for your ideas Disney Franatic! The only book I ever read (many many years ago) was the Unofficial Guide. I never knew there was information on line until I was shown various web-sites, about 5 years ago by a friend. She had told me about this web site and the Passporter Book, which I've looked at in book stores and thought this is the one I wanted to purchase for our next trip (which as you know is next year). Although I just love Disney and could/would go every year, we cannot afford that option so I just look forward to the next trip and start planning a little more then a year out.
I had thought of the Disney Dollars too but not the Disney calendar, did you get it at a Disney Store or on-line? That's a great idea! Count downs are always fun!
Thanks again for your input and I'm hoping to receive more good ideas! SW+7

Re: When Should I Make Purchase and other Advice?
I gave my DS who is 5 "Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids". I also gave it to all of my nephews and neices - ranging in age from 8 to 3. Maybe this was the book you were thinking of. It is great for that age - lots of pictures, big print and maps. It is by no means our beloved Passporter but kids do love it for its simplicity.

Re: When Should I Make Purchase and other Advice?
You can find Disney calendars just about everywhere nowadays with all different characters. If she loves the princesses, as my DGD does, there are calendars with them. You can find cute Disney items everywhere. Some inexpensive things that you might want to put in her box can be found at Dollar Tree and Big Lots (if you have those stores in your neck of the woods). I've seen journals, pencils, stickers, Princess crayons, etc.

Re: When Should I Make Purchase and other Advice?
I have found Disney princess stuff at Dollar Tree also, don't forget to look into Target, Wal-Mart,K Mart and I even found things for my DGD at Kroger Grocery, Meijer Grocery, and don't forget Toys R Us and Disney Store...I found the Disney princess calendar at our local Walgreen Drug Store! Little goodies can be found in the most unlikely places...keep your eyes open and to add to your list of things to think about..I have the habit of buying and putting aside Disney themed iems I find, and keeping them in a bag in my closet..I not only use some for birthday and Christmas...but yes I also had a few gifties for countdown to the trip, and I purchased (Disney Store) the Princess set of small (about 4" tall) plastic princesses and put them in a Princess Purse with some other little goodies such as the crayons and coloring book...She was given the purse the morning we left for the trip...She was in heaven the whole flight!

Re: When Should I Make Purchase and other Advice?
Thank you all so much for your advice. After speaking with my DIL I am going to contain myself and give her this package of goodies for Christmas containing the guide book for kids, calendar, and other items I can purchase in the dollar store, Wal-Mart, Big-Lots, Target, etc… I think it will be fun. I had to succumb to common sense and realize that if I started giving her stuff too far in advance it may get lost, broken or lose its excitement; after all I want her in full frenzy mode when we get there! Christmas 06 will give us just enough time to start planning and figuring out what we want to do for our trip in early summer 07. Only 487 days left, but who’s counting? In the meantime I’m going to purchase MY PASSPORTER the next time I’m in the book store! Have a great day everyone! SW+7
