As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Should I ride Mission Space??
Hello again.....everyone's advice on this board has been so helpful and I just finished booking our ADR's for our trip in April. We are ready to go!! I hope I won't be too big of a pest until then but I do have yet another question. This trip is going to be more of a relaxing one than our previous trips. ...well at least that's the plan. The goal is to do rides, etc. that we have never done, and then the old time favorites...and relax at the pool alot. Here is where it gets tricky for me I love all the rides at WDW...(TOT, RNR, SM, BTMRR among the favorites), but I have yet to try Mission Space. I have just heard so many negative and not so pleasant things about it...I would love to hear some positive input that will change my mind and help me to stop being such a chicken Thanks in advance! Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
Mission Space is not my thing, but neither is TOT, RNR or Space Mountain. However, if you do decide to give it a whirl (sorry, no pun intended) then you might want to plan it at a time that if you aren't feeling too great when you get off you can leave EPCOT and rest at your resort.
Have a great time and let us know if you get to experience the ride!

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
Have you ever had any problems with motion sickness? If not, then I don't think you will have any problems. If you have, there's no guarantee that you'll have a problem with MS.
Pay attention to the instructions--keep your head back and stare straight ahead into the screen in front of you. I think the first time I rode it I felt ever so slightly off kilter for a while [no, I didn't want to rush off and play bagpipes ], but for some reason I am always getting a cold or sinus infection right before I go to WDW, so it could just as easily have been that because this last trip a few weeks ago I didn't really notice any after-effects. I will say that I have never gotten off and decided to ride it again straightaway as I have with ToT, RnRC, BTMRR, and EE.
This is a great ride! The effects are excellent and probably as close as most of us will get to the excitement of liftoff. The queue is great and the control center looks like some that I have been in.
I hope you are able to ride and enjoy it.

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
I wish I could tell you from first hand experience that I have tried MS, but I haven't. Like you I love RNR, TOT, BTM, Splash and Space. I could spend an entire day, or week if time allowed, going on RNR over and over again. I love to go fast, love to go upside down, just don't spin me.
The first time I went on the teacups with my DD, I felt sick for hours afterwords (even though I had been on them many times in my youth). This was something I never felt before, and not something I want to feel again. No other ride has ever bothered me! Because of this reaction, when MS opened up, I made DH ride it first and give me his take. He loves this ride, but didn't think I could handle it due to my issues with spinning. So I passed. The funny thing is, while my DH loves MS, he hates to ride Dumbo because of the way it makes him feel when he gets off it and wouldn't even consider doing Astro Orbiters!
One day I hope to try it. I will just have to plan on leaving the park right afterwords and not have any plans for the rest of the night!
Everyone is different. The only way to know for sure is if you try it yourself. Sorry, I know this is not a positive response and probably not much help.
If you do try MS, please come back and let us know what you think of it. Maybe it will convince me to go on it!

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
I've been wondering the same thing about MS for our upcoming trip. I wonder if taking dramamine or bonine would be helpful an hour or so beforehand?

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
I think that you should give it a try! Definitely follow the instructions, they make a huge difference. DO NOT close your eyes! Unlike a simulator such as Star Tours or Body Wars, the feeling that you are spinning is not exaggerated by the visuals on the screen. You ARE spinning. Looking at the screen helps to fool your brain that you are moving forward instead of round and round and round! I have developed a sensitivity to prolonged spinning (such as on carnival rides) so I was a little nervous about MS. I would just die if I threw up in public! I went on, did as they said, and came out fine! I was certainly glad that it didn't last any longer than it did but I was only a tiny bit queasy at the very end. (I wouldn't recommend a big meal beforehand though! )
It's lots of fun as you sling-shot around the moon and I read that even the real astronauts were impressed!

I think Larry's said it all here. I do sometimes suffer from motion sickness and I really was worried about what this ride would do to me. I debated forever about whether to try it or not, but eventually I did. Fortunately I was with someone who'd already done the ride and I knew wouldn't be affected, so I knew they could look after me if the worst came to the worst. I was a little unsteady afterwards, but I've done the ride again since. It's not something I could do more than once in one day, but it's an amazing ride. As Larry says, if you follow the instructions, you really limit the effect on you.
I hope that helps.

It's a ride to experience at least 1 time. I'm not completely sure I will ride it again when we head back down, and I love the other rides that you mentioned...Good Luck in deciding!

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
Definitely give it a try. After Spiderman and the Hulk coaster, the coolest ride in Orlando. Last trip, I rode it 6 times in a row using the single riders line, and would have kept going except Illuminations was beckoning

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
Our first time riding MS was in 2003 when it first had it's soft opening. It was great for me and DS#1, but DH said it made him woozy. He is also one that doesn't like spinning things. When we rode in 2005, I felt as if it had been "toned" down a bit. It didn't give me the rush it had in '03. DS#1 an DS#2 enjoyed it quite a bit. We rode numerous times and DH said it didn't make him as woozy as it had in 2003, but t still just wasn't his "thing." Let yourself get into the '"character" on the ride and enjoy it. Use the suggestions above and you should have a great time!

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
I second two of the recommendations above:
1) if you're prone to motion sickness (or have trouble with spinning), you should probably skip this. That said, I can't stand the Teacups, but I have NO problem on Mission:Space.
2) Follow the instructions - head back, eyes OPEN (!!), don't lean forward or turn your head. I believe it's a matter of the fluid in your inner ears staying steady while the ride is moving.
If you're "clogged up" or have a sinus infection, I'd give it a pass too... I usually end up woozy if I ride in that condition.
I'm not terrific on the big scary rides, but I adore M:S and think it's has the greatest physical effects and "show" that Disney has ever presented.
But, I'd suggest that you try it close to the end of the day, or when you plan on heading back to the resort. That way, you can rest or lie down if you have a bad experience.

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
I have trouble with Simulators (Artic Helicopter Ride at Sea World and Body Wars at WDW...I won't try Star Tours). I am not really prone to motion sickness but simulators do get to me. I do okay on most rides but I am not the type of person who would ride R&RC all day. Anyway...as far as M:S I say try it once the only way you will know is to try it. I went on M:S once and I will never go on it again. I was sick for the rest of the day. I did everything I was told and was still off. I didn't actually ummm...well you know...but I had a pretty painful headache and was dizzy. I took antivert before I went on and it didn't help me at all.

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
Give it a shot. It may make you a little dizzy, but that sensation of "lifting off" is quite a rush. As everyone has said, Kepp your head back, your eyes straight ahead on the cockpit "window".

Re: Should I ride Mission Space??
I like Mission Space a great deal - but I will say that I can only ride it once a day. The first time I rode it - I felt queasy - but since then, now that I know what to expect I can really enjoy it!
Definately follow the instructions that they give you! It is a wonderful ride.
