Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

Since my trip in December is a 10th anniversary surprise trip for my DH I was wondering what anyone else has done for those they love at Disney. Romantic dinners? Fireworks cruise?? Tell me everything!

VICTORIA AND ALBERTS!!! It was the most expensive and best food I've ever put in my mouth and we had such an awesome time together there. We stayed at the GF so then we just went up to our room and watched the fireworks from there....an absolutely perfect evening

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

Not that grand, but...My husband and I did a short trip just the two of us. I had a goodie basket sent to our room from Disney Florist. Her really enjoyed it! I called them and they put all his favorite snack foods and fruit in it for me. They were really nice! It was in a Mickey head shaped basket and not too expensive. It sure came in handy too because we were stuck in our room for Hurricane Jeanne!

They have some nice baskets at Disney Florist and they will change them up to your liking too!

Have fun on your trip!!

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

Perfect timing for this question! We are going to celebrate our 20th anniversary and DH Paul's 50th birthday on our upcoming trip. So far I've:

Made a reservation for Victoria & Albert's for just the two of us for our anniversary dinner. Our two teenage sons will kick back and order room service that night.

I've arranged for an Illuminations Fireworks cruise to celebrate DH's birthday.

Our first night at the world we will have a family celebration with dinner at the castle. I made the reservations so that our meal will end as the fireworks at the castle begin.

That's it so far. Hope this helps.

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

Funny you should ask this, I just booked a fishing excursion as a surprise for my DH. He loves to fish but never really has the time to do it. He is going alone (sans the girls and I) so he should REALLY love it. I plan on ordering a surprise basket type thing for the room too from Disney Florist. good luck. p.s. I heard parasailing is awesome from the Contemporary!

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

My DW took me to my first ever vacation/first disney trip/late honeymoon/first anniversary/DD 14 birthday in Nov. 2005 so the least I could do, I bought her a DVC membership.

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

I upgraded our stay at AKL to concierge level and booked the Sunrise Safari as a surprise birthday gift for my DH. Then, to cover my tracks and keep the surprise, I ended up booking a fishing trip for him too, which he asked for as a birthday present.

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

I gave him $150 to shut up with the complaining already!

This was when we were dating, his first trip and on the last day we got the printout of our charges and he went ballistic, reading it at the pool. We were $300 over budget & he kept saying how Disney ripped us off - gave us those cards and then we didn't know how much we were spending. (I knew, he just wasn't paying attention). On and on about $300, $300, so finally I said "I'll give you $150 to shut up about it".

It sounds mean but it really was funny. We still laugh about it. Well, now that I think about that, maybe it was a gift to myself. hmmmm

What about the Richard Petty Driving Experience? I think my husband would love that. Is he a football fan? My husband has been a fan of the Miami Dolphins since he was a little boy. I plan to surprise him with a package booked with the team where you get to go down on the field and meet the team, etc. Our anniversary is in November when our next family trip will be. Surprisingly enough, my husband really enjoyed the couples spa treatments we did on our cruise in 2004. That might be something to check out (except at one of the onsite spas). Good luck, and let us know what you do!

On a more serious note, this isn't exactly "romantic" but DH has always wanted to do the parasailing from the contemporary - that would be a fun gift for someone, i think, if they are the thrill-seeking type.

During our family trip to WDW a couple of years ago, I surprised my honey with a Rehitching Ceremony at Garden Grill. Boy was he surprised!!! Unfortunately, they don't do that anymore. It was so much fun.

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

Anyone have any ideas about maybe creating our own little "re-hitchin" I know that apparently they are no longer offered, but do you think maybe a cast member (say at the resort) might be able to spare a few moments and "pronounce us rehitched?" We really aren't looking to put out a lot of extra $$$ on something like the pavillion or anything, just a fun, quirky idea. Any castmembers on the boards that can provide a suiggestion would be very welcome! Hey I'd be willing to give a nice token of appreciation to any cast member or otherwise available disneyfan (hey passporter family if you are visiting the world during our stay...are you available to be the officiate?) that could accomodate us on this activity...just for the pure fun of it...We would use our original vows and just adlib some new additions...maybe someone in a Mickey or gooofy ears/hat...Duuuuhhhh am I that far out...you bet your boots (ears) I am. What a hoot it would be to create a little unexpected magic for our special occasion, or even a little fun at DH expense...he is a good sport by the way and would love it! We got him good on his 50th BD and he loved it (he had never had a birthday party before in h is life WOW), then he got me back on my 50th 2 years ago by conspiring with my DD and DSIL, they got me good....sooooo I owe him one! This looks like the best opportunity to get even. Hey by the way Victoria and ALberts nice touch, but although I'll probably spring for a basket, I am not so much looking for the romantic (6 yr. old in tow) but more looking for surprise, quirky, kookie fun...he has a super sense of humor so nothing and I meqan NOTHING would be too far out and crazy for this celebration...after all who but a real sweetheart would be the one to suggest taking our little grand daughter (his idea) with us on our 20th Wedding Anniversay because he thinks she would love seeing Disney at Christmas Time...go figure. So much for romance. Gotta love him eh? Note...when we returned from Disney in July, he and I ( and DGD) had our golden ears on when he went back to work and we skipped down the office hallway singing It's a small world song to make his coworkers aware he had returned! Told you he was funny! They laughed and he had the best time of all.

Re: What special things have you done a Disney for your significate other?

I know my DH has always wanted to go to DisneyQuest. I thought about going there on the first day after we arrived. Then maybe dinner at Raglan Road since he's Irish & Scottish and likes that kind of food. I do like the rehitching idea too.
Keep them coming!
Thanks!
