As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What airline do you like best? Have you ever had a problem with Delta changing your flight itenary?
I am planning a trip to Disney Dec. 2-8, 2006 and I am trying to decide on what airline. I will be flying from Dayton, Ohio to Orlando. What do you recommend. I can fly Delta direct round trip for $218, not including taxes.

That's not a bad fare. We used to fly Delta, but then we started taking Southwest. We just got better prices with Southwest, nothing against Delta
Forgot to add that yes, Delta changed our itinerary (flight numbers.......time was about the same) and never notified me. I found out when I couldn't do the online check-in, so I had to call, and they fixed it and then I could check-in online! Wasn't too much of a hassle, and at least our seats didn't change!

We have flown both Delta and Southwest. We prefer to fly Southwest because we have had better rates with them. I had a fussy flight attendant on Delta once last year traveling for a school conference, but nothing worse than that ever with Delta.

Re: What airline do you like best? Have you ever had a problem with Delta changing your flight itenary?
We've flown Delta several times and they almost always make changes to our flights. Ususally only a different flight number or change in time (by a few minutes) - nothing major.

Re: What airline do you like best? Have you ever had a problem with Delta changing your flight itenary?
I've flown with both Delta and Southwest. We are flying Delta out of Kansas City in May. Our cost for two round trip was $394. That includes all of the taxes also.
We were trying to fly SWA but I got greedy waiting for a discounted price and our flight got sold out. So we did a fast switch to Delta. I love SWA. They are always on time and very effecient. Yeah I hate not having assigned seats but DH and I always get to airport two hours in advance. We always have 'A' boarding pass and get in line very early. So DH almost always gets the exit seats. He calls them first class.

Re: What airline do you like best? Have you ever had a problem with Delta changing your flight itenary?
The last time I flew Delta was when they still offered Non-stop to Orlando from Boston - almost 10 years - and they only changed our seats, but that was while we were waiting to board, so it wasn't too bad. My mother likes Southwest. The rates are better and I think they offer a lot more non-stop flights. I know she got one last year from Providence to Phoenix and we're still waiting for this years flights for August to be posted for our trip to Disney.

Re: What airline do you like best? Have you ever had a problem with Delta changing your flight itenary?
Another huge SOUTHWEST fan here! I've flown other airlines in the past - but in the last 6 years or so, we've been pretty much dedicated to flying Southwest!!!
They almost NEVER change their flights/times - of course, you do have to wait till they release (usually about 3-5 months in advance) the flights - but when they give a time/flight - they mean it!!
I don't mind the no assigned seats thing at all - we have almost always had an A boarding pass - although our first flight with Southwest (back when they still boarded by numbers!) we were split between the 3rd and last groups to board!!! It was pretty funny!!! John, Amanda, Jennie and I were in the 61-90 group - and my little, just turned 5 year old Sarah was in the 91-end group!!!! Of course - this was before the "chute" method - and the 91 group was lined up on the other end of the room!!! No way I was sending Sarah down there, so she stayed with me and the girls - and we sent John down to the 91 line (figured we'd save him a seat!). We were at the front of our line - and when it was our turn - Sarah refused to get on the plane "without my Daddy!!!!" The gate agent starting cracking up laughing at John's red face - "Are you Daddy??? Then GET ON THAT plane and take your little girl to Disney World!!!" Even that time - we were able to find 5 seats together (2 rows in front of each other), and we were even toward the front of the plane!!
Last time I flew Delta was LONG ago - 80's maybe?? I do like American for other destinations where Southwest doesn't travel. I haven't been happy with US Air's service. My sister in law swears by Jetblue - but we haven't tried them yet, since Southwest flies out of Manchester - not Logan - which is my preference.

My last experience with Delta wasn't so great. If you can take Southwest, I would go for that.

I live in the Dayton Ohio area also.
Look into Airtran. They have direct flights out of Dayton to Orlando. In October I paid $136 for round trip. Right now it does seem to be a bit higher than that. You can go on to www.airtran.com and sign up for their notification program.
Southwest flies out of Columbus OH with directly flights to Orlando. Columbus isn't a bad drive not that they have the airport connecting road open. Takes about an hour or so.
