As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Nassau Excursion Advice
We're in the planning stages of our cruise (Wonder to the Bahamas) and would like some feedback on the Nassau excursions. While Atlantis would be something to see, I think we'd also like to see some of the sights in Nassau (the cheesey pirate museum, Ft. Fincastle/Queen's Staircase, the Straw Market). Our kids are 8 and 10.

Re: Nassau Excursion Advice
We were on the Wonder in January. We did not plan a shore excursion here. Just wanted to explore. And we did have fun. We walked all the way up to the Government house and looked down over the town and the harbor. Talked to a nice military guard named Green. However, please know... the hardest thing was to get through the barrage of tour guides who Pounced on us at the end of the dock. Next time, if I'm on my own again, we will closely follow a group just to get by them without getting "attacked"!

Re: Nassau Excursion Advice
I think Nassau is a pretty easy place to explore on your own. Dave has a pretty good walking tour in the DCL Passporter. I have been to Nassau on mnay cruises and have never done an excursion there that I felt was worth the money we paid for it.

Re: Nassau Excursion Advice
I hadn't even planned to get off the ship, but 17yo DD's excursion was cancelled, so I grabbed Dave's walking tour and we set out on our own. She's a history buff, so I just sighted Fort Fincastle and started walking! We did get stopped by a tour guide person, but quickly shook him and set off. I think we got off Dave's map a little but Ft. Fincastle was hard to miss! We resumed the walk and went by the Governor's mansion, Christ Church and through the straw market (which was NOT as bad as I'd thought it would be, but I've been in Turkish markets...). We stopped and made a few purchases and were back on the ship about 1 1/2 hours after we left, then had the afternoon to ourselves onboard. It was nice and we could have slowed down, but I'd promised my younger ones that we'd have lunch together, so I had to pick them up from the clubs.

Re: Nassau Excursion Advice
Welcome to the boards modisney! We haven't done any excursions in Nassau but there are reviews in the PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line and you could do a search in this forum for other threads using the keyword "Nassau". If you plan on doing any shopping in Nassau, I definitely recommend going to the Shopping Presentation onboard. They will give you a flyer with what shops they recommend, information on what to do if an item breaks, etc. and even hand out some freebies.

Re: Nassau Excursion Advice
We did the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau. I think this is one I wish we had booked through Disney. We booked it on our own through Shoretours.com and we did save money this time. Shoretours.com doesn't charge for 3 year olds and Disney does. However, for future note, I believe the transportation costs are included in the Disney excursion offerings and they help navigate through the hoards of taxi drivers trying to get your attention when you get off ship. While the ferry is included in the cost of the excursion either way, we had to find our own transportation across the bridge to the ferry terminal.
The Dolphin Encounter was quite a bit of $$, but the experience was amazing. My DD3 really likes Dolphins and she was thrilled to be able to kiss, hug, feed, and pet the dolphin. My DS6 and DD10 were a little apprehensive, but the pictures we got in the end are priceless memories. We were permitted to take our own pictures, but the pictures they take show better interaction (since we're all in the water with the dolphin, it's hard to take a picture of ourselves). We also bought the video. I haven't had a chance to view it, but all three of my kids talk about the encounter quite a bit. I am very glad we went. My husband and I have tried to get away from giving the children things and focus more on making memories and this was definately a memory we will cherish.

Re: Nassau Excursion Advice
My friends and I did the Pirate Musuem this past September and really enjoyed. It was not that expensive and it was great because we could enjoy the musuem at our own pace. I think your kids would enjoy it.

Re: Nassau Excursion Advice
The Atlantis hotel is also a fun place to explore. We just walked around in the shops, had an ice cream and checked out the outdoor aquarium. You'll see it when you dock, it's a short taxi ride. They charged us $4.00 a person for the ride(one way)

Re: Nassau Excursion Advice
We did Blackbeard's Stingray adventure in November. You take a small boat to the island and they feed you lunch. We had a great time with the Stingrays and the beach was beautiful. It was a fun day.

Re: Nassau Excursion Advice
What would a 6 year old enjoy more... he LOVES pirates... and slides... Would the pirate adventure be better during Easter Week since Atlantis will probably be a zoo? I've heard of 1 hour lines for the slides when it's busy and no way would he be ablt to wait that long! I would like to get off the ship and see a little of Nassau. Your thoughts?
