Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

A day in the life of a stay-at-home-working mother
Awaken to the sound of a screaming child throwing a fit because his father dared to take bottle of moisturizer away from child, attempt to wake up enough to make it down stairs, make breakfast for child who insists he wants everything but what you have, while child eats attempt to straighten up your house in the 2.5 seconds between handing child breakfast and his yelling, “All done!” at the top of his lungs. Convince child that he needs to eat something besides syrup and provide yogurt. Remember that the dog is STILL outside, go to get dog who runs inside and is immediately rewarded by child with the remains of a blueberry waffle. Try to clean blueberry waffle mess while child gleefully flings yogurt onto his tray and proceeds to mix it with syrup already in tray while chanting “signing time, signing time” because the last song of the DVD he is watching has just begun to play. Answer phone while attempting to hold off dog, undo tray and keep child from grabbing your hair with sticky yogurt/syrup fingers. Clean off child, tray, high chair and dog and go back to straightening. Place child in time out twice for not listening and attempting to “help” you load the dishwasher. Periodic stops for Kleenex use on child with seriously runny nose.
Put dog away, bring child upstairs to get dressed an attempt to take shower. Change child’s hideously stinky diaper while child re-enacts a scene from one of Hulk Hogan’s last matches. Bring child and appropriate toys into bathroom. Turn on water, brush teeth, help child attempt to brush his teeth after bribing him with new “special” toothpaste. Get in shower and attempt to wash hair while the curtain is pulled back multiple times to play “peek-a-boo”, each time letting in a blast of cold air. Put conditioner in hair and begin to relax. Realize that you are relaxing because it is quiet. Get VERY nervous because it is quiet! [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/ukid.gif[/img] Check on child who is slathering previously mentioned moisturizer all over himself. Forget to wash face because you are helping child rinse off excess moisturizer. Inform child that he has now lost “Blues Clues” privileges for the day. Tantrum begins. Ignore tantrum, return to shower, contemplate shaving, burst into hysterical laughter. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img]
Dress self and child while child is hanging onto you for dear life as he now needs comfort at the thought of a Blues Clues free day. More Kleenex as his nose is now a veritable faucet. As child begins to count his toes realize that your 21 month old can count to 6 but has never said his ABC’s. Panic and begin singing ABC’s while also attempting to sign them as well as you are teaching child sign language. Mentally begin to re-think your entire approach to child-rearing and education as you are clearly so negligent a mother that your child is addicted to Blues Clues and does not know his ABC’s. After all, he IS already 21 months old! Remember that you have work to do today and begin to pray that child will take a nap longer than the previous day's which last about 60 whole minutes, just long enough to walk the dog and shove some lunch in your mouth.
Place child with snack and water infrom of Seasame Street and come upstairs to vent to your friends. Attempt to finish typing post with child on your lap because he has found you and wants more Elmo.

I'm not a stay at home mom but I am a mom of a 2 year old and can totally relate to your day... my guy can count to 10 in spanish (thanks to Dora) but stops around 7 in English... go figure! Here's a few pixies for a long nap!!!

Just think, it's one day closer to the time he will go to school, and once he starts school, you'll miss all of these things that he does. But you'll also be really, REALLY, thankful that he's in school. I've been a stay at home mom to my DD and now that she's in school, I work as a substitute for the school, but I still miss her. Every so often, I have a lapse in sanity and kinda wish for the days when she was home, and then I return to my right mind and say "Thank god I don't have to go through that again." Believe me, you will make it through this. Maybe only a few minutes at a time, but you'll make it. I did - and my DD is Autistic on top of it all which we only just found out a few months ago. Sara, how I long to go back to those days. Although I love the work that I do at times I feel like I'm working with 8 people who are not as mature as Ryan is now!!! So much so that the dept head has called a meeting of us all for the purpose of doing a major reorganization! December 1, 2007 can't come soon enough for me. That's the day I can retire.

Oh Sara.. I'm so sorry but I had to laugh..having met Ryan ( & seeing that adorable bundle of energy) I am picturing the scene in my mind ..

soon enough he'll be a teenager who is at least 6" taller than you & rolls his eyes at every thing that comes out of your mouth & say "Mom, this isn't the 80's" or cry & stomp around because you asked him to give the poor parrot water & he's overly tired ( & HORMONAL!!! i remember trying to take a shower with 2 of them in the room! i bought a see-thru shower curtain. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img] [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img] [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img]
Most days i wouldn't trade it for any job. Now that my boys are a little older things r different/not easier/ different. but i'm about to do it all over again!
Enjoy your little guy. he's adorable and even though he doesn't realize it he is so lucky you are there with him every day. You're a good mom. probably a tired mom but a good mom. You're also very lucky to have the option to stay home.
