As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
Do any of you bring kids to a scrapboooking workshop???
I went to a Creative Memories workshop today. One lady brought her newborn baby (she was pregnant at the last crop I went to in November) and her approximately 16 month old boy. Not only did she have to cart around all her scrapbooking stuff, but she brought a stroller, a baby gated circle playyard thing, a high chair, blankets, toys, etc. I do not think I saw her sit down one minute. The boy was running all over the room. This was held in a school gym so he kept trying to climb the steps to the stage and then run down the runway incline on the side. When the baby woke, she had to nurse her, so she strapped the boy in this highchair and he screamed the whole time to get down (not in words, he can't talk yet). She ended up leaving early.
Another lady brought her 2 girls, about 8 and 10. They played basketball most of the time (try to listen to basketball dribbling the whole time). I was terrified the ball would bounce onto my stuff because I was nearest to the basketball hoop.
None of it really affected me personally (maybe the noice and crying was a little trying, but didn't impact my work), but man, these poor moms didn't get anything done. So why come?? I guess to socialize a little, but they didn't really get to do that either??
One thing I enjoy about going to a scrapbooking workshop is to get away from the kids and DH and the housework, etc.
Maggie

Re: Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
I have yet to go to one, but I think I would take Emilie ONLY IF it was held at our local scrapbooking store. They have a "kids room" right off of the cropping stations that has blocks and a train set . . . everytime I go up there to shop for something, she heads back there while I grab the stuff I need and it is SO hard to get her to leave!
If she was much younger, I wouldn't even think of bringing her!!! Once she gets older, I might bring her to one, just because she is VERY interested in scrapbooking and REALLY wants to make one of her own already (and she is just shy of 5 years old!) She is doing me proud!
Glad those basketball girls kept the ball away from your stuff, Maggie . . . that would have driven me crazy too, trying to keep and eye out and making sure the ball wasn't headed my way!

Re: Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
I used to go to a CMC who had crops in her basement and people would bring their kids. I never got it, either! It got to the point that I would bring my then 12yo DD along just to babysit everyone else's so we could get some work done! They'd take up a collection to pay her, so that was nice.
I agree, I want to get AWAY from the kids. It would have driven me nuts, esp the basketball bouncing!!! Those 2 are old enough to sit down and do some scrapbooking of their own.

Re: Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
I worked in our local scrapbook store for quite some time and the overwhelming consensus was that people did not want children in the room during crops. Babies and toddlers for obvious noise and safety issues. Older kids because some of them like to "talk" and dont like feeling like they have to monitor their conversations.
Frankly I would appreciate a pre-teen in the room so they WOULD!

Re: Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
Jen and I went to a crop once with my kids (6 and 3)..I brought some extra pics from a recent trip and told them they could do some projects. they were okay for a little while, but the youngest got bored and started flirting with all the ldies in the room. visiting them and bragging about how he could jump on one foot. the oldest sat longer and used up my entire glue stick on 2 pictures. They weren't necesarily bad, but it wasn't enjoyable for me. i haven't been back cuz DH works weird hours and i don't have a sitter. but i won't try taking them again.
Sorry about the basketball girls. They were definitely old enough to sit still and participate. They sounded destracting.

Re: Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
Our CM crops and Store crops are Adults only. Just because for the same reasons. I do like this only it was very hard when my DD was little and nursing. Thanks to my wonderful CM lady (good friend) my DH came along and kept her hubby company. He brought the baby to me when it was time to nurse but stayed on another floor the rest of the time. I asked permission first (was dying to get out of the house!!) and the other ladies there were also very good friends. I would never do that to a group of people I didn't know. Heck, they paid to be there to work!

Re: Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
You know, this same lady brought her older son (the now 16 month old) since he was born. But up until this time, he didn't seem to be an issue (for the mom and/or others). When he was a new born, he would nurse and sleep, etc. Pretty quiet. Once in awhile she would push him in the stroller around the room to get him to sleep. Then as he became older, he would sit in the car seat/bouncy seat thing and play with his play gym thing. It wasn't until this time when he was a walker and also more inquisitive that she seemed to have a problem.
Also, she is not a single mom. I know that single moms have issues too trying to get away and need to bring the kids. But this is not the case in this instance.

Re: Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
Well, I can understand the baby. When I was nursing I had to bring them everywhere. I never brought them to a workshop, but did bring them to weird things like bookclub and showers and things like that. Danny never took a bottle, so he was literally attached to me. Maybe she had the same situation with the baby. I can't understand why she'd bring the older one though.

Re: Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
I go to the CM crops once a month and we have another at church once a month. The CM one is adults only. The one at church people can bring kids if they can play by themselves. We have a decent play room for the kids. Several ladies are nursing and their DH show up midway thru the event with the babies. It's cute. The moms go off to nurse and the dads start scrapbooking. They're actually pretty good.

Re: Bringing kids to a scrapbooking workshop
I have a 4 and 6 year old and wouldn't even think of bringing them. It is my time away a little retreat from them. Love them to death.....but I do need some away time...
