Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

I think the most magical moment came when i was working at Typhoon Lagoon on the College Program. I was having a tough time of it with my roommates and really missing home. I was at the cash register at Typhoon Tilly's and a family from South Windsor CT came in saw my name tag and that I was from CT. We started talking while I took their order and I told them how homesick I was at that time and how my grandfather worked in S. Windsor at the local walmart. Well they knew him they always talk to him about what they buy and what not while waiting for each other. He even mentioned I was down there but he didn't remember where. It was a magical moment i will always remember as they told me how his face lit up when he talked about me. My grandfather passed on 8 months later and that family really made me feel like i was home.

if you were that family i wish i had gotten their name and a way to contact them.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

It's amazing how the little things make you feel great, isn't it.

One of my favorite memories is from our trip in 2001. We were celebrating our 15th anniversary and one morning while we were having our Room Service breakfast, we looked over at the Castle view and 2 fireworks went up over the Castle. It was Magical for us!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

We had such a good time on our first trip in 2002. I had a Passporter but didn't know about the boards yet and during our final-day spending spree at WoD I saw the "Been there, done that, going back" license plate frame and at that moment I knew I wasn't the only one who was wild about the place, and that we would definitely be going back.

I will never forget the look on DD face the first time we strolled down Main Street and she saw Cindy's castle! I will always have that memory embedded in my heart and mind! Just the expression she had and the excitement that she showed! It was contagious and made me feel like such a kid again!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

How much space can I have?

Well, first off I have to share one with my father, the one person who started my love of WDW. While I haved many fond memorires of being there with my mom and dad, one sticks out as a favorite.

We were staying at FW in our motorhome. I was in my early twentys and took a vacation with my parents. We had a family next to us that did nothing but sceam at each other from morning to night. And everytime we left the campsite they were right there by us. One afternoon, my father and I were sitting in the captain seats in the front of the Winnebago with the windows open. We could hear that family next to us starting to have their afternoon screaming fits. Next thing I knew, my dad was throwing in commentary between their screams. And I found myself laughing so hard I thought I was going to die. It was a "guess you had to be there moment" but I will never forget it. Everytime I think about it, I smile.

Then there was the trip that was the first for me with DH and DD. I had to almost put a rope around DH's neck to get him to go and I had to find a place to stay that he would love and want to come back to. When we walked in to a FW cabin, my outdoors loving DH looked at me and said "Good choice, I could not only stay here, but look forwad to coming back." Not a problem, honey, not a problem!

After that there was the first time I set foot in the AK. And the first time DD hugged a character. And the first time she came face to face with a princess. And the list goes on and on!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

Mine would be the first time we went to MK, DD was only 4. We got to Maon St late for the parade so no good spots left. I put my daughter on my sholders so that she could watch the parade. She yelled and screamed at every float that came by, and kept telling me who was coming next.
The next day we got to Casey's early for a good spot, and she got picked to be with the Aladdin foat. That was very special.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

I think mine still has to be on my 30th birthday at 1900 Park Fare. My parents called the restaurant and asked for something special. They had Eeyore bring out a cake and a beanie in a sleigh with balloons attached to it and then he "sang" happy birthday to me - it was such a special moment to get all the attention from my favourite character. Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

My favourite memory is when I went to Disney with my high school band. I ended up walked around both Magic Kingdom and Epcot with four guys, which was wonderful. Well, I told them that we just HAD to do PhilharMagic and there was no way they were gonna get around it. They had no idea what it was as most had never been to Disney World, which made walking with them even better. But they did know that it wasn't big or fast or anything, so they weren't quite as excited as me. It was while we were in line that I told them about all the Hidden Mickeys, so they spent a great deal of time the rest of our time the next few days looking for those. Well, we got in, then once the show was done, the boys looked at me and kept saying how awesome it was and just talking about how cool it was, which about made my day. Then when we were watching the Spectramagic parade, and Cinderella walked by and blew a kiss in our direction, and three of my Disney boys (all high school aged...) ended up arguing over who she blew the kiss too. It was so cute. Then we ended up not going back at the time we were told so we could watch the fireworks show, which was WAY worth it to see those boys watch that. It was just such a fun experience to be with people that hadn't been there and that made it so much fun! (so that's a lot of memories, but oh well...)

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

when we had "wishes" left over on our dining plan and bought lunch for 2 families at Crystal Palace! That was so awesome because as someone who saved for years to Go I knew how much one could do not having to pay $80 for lunch

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

Mine isn't really anything that stands out, but I will never forget my first stroll down Main Sreet towards the castle and the first time I ever met Mickey Mouse. This past trip was pretty magical too. I had the flu and Disney pulled out all of the stops to make sure my vacation would be remembered as one of my best ever.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

Ok...have 2. First is our 1995 trip to Disney with my nieces and nephews. My middle niece (who was 3 at the time) was being carried by my husband on his shoulders. We got to the end of main street and he put her down. She ran (with us hastily following) until she got in front of the castle...whispered "lella castle" and stood there completely transfixed for the next 10 minutes!

2nd...our 2003 trip when my son (then 5) got to wake up tinkerbell and stood there watching her "fly" for the next 10 minutes while the CMs (who were surprised about a little boy finding so much magic in Tinkerbell's shop) gave him a little extra pixie dust and magic (including a greeting from Wendy, Pan, Hook and Smee!) To this day (he's now 7) he still wants to watch Peter Pan before we get to Disney and talks about how he saw Tink fly and got to call Hook a "Codfish" with Peter and Wendy!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

I also have so many and have posted many before in trip reports: Like the last night of our first visit to FtW in May 2003 when my wife and I took the golf cart for one final goodbye tour of the campground ending up at the marina and just sitting there taking in the sight, smells and sounds. OR our getting a special seat outside Rose & Crown to see Illuminations the first time.

However here is one that really points out how really magical Disney is. During April 2005, we brought my nephew Mark along with us. He is within a few days of being the same age as DS and they are like best buddies. On our last day it was raining but we still hit the parks. After our usual rest break for lunch, it poured! BUCKETS! Of course it was our last chance for Epcot and Illuminations. Still we headed out from FtW to Epcot. We found one of those lucky close to the entrance parking spots since people were headed out in mass. We get to the entrance and I hand out the tickets that I held in my waterproof card holder around my neck. Where was Mark's? OH NO! Oh thats right he held his own ticket in his wallet. WHAT??? You left your wallet where?? IN YOUR OTHER PANTS BACK AT FTW? Just then we looked down and saw a one day Epcot pass on the ground dated today! What magical luck! YES it was soaked and so flimsy I doubted it would work, but he slipped it in and inserted his fingers and......the CM let him through! We hustled in behind him and giggled as we headed for some cover under Spacehip Earth. We didn't accomplish much as far as attractions. We spent a lot of time in Innoventions and the guys went on the newly opened Soaring while DW and I waited trying to dry out. We did manage to have a wonderful dinner at Le Cellier which fortified us for Illuminations in the WORST rain storm I have ever sat through. It was worth it just to see Mark enjoy the show.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory

I have two recent ones.
First, we went to Star Wars weekends this past year for the first time. I had never been, and while I am not a big fan of Star Wars, my BF at the time was. So, we were outside at 6:30 AM waiting in line to make sure we got to do everything as we only had two days in the parks (we were on our way up from the Floriday Keys). Anyway, we lucked out because the guy right behind us went every year, and he told us the order in which to do things to make sure we got all the autographs and merchandise and exactly where to sit to get a good view of the parade. Of course, since we used his schedule, we bumped into him all day. He was a really nice guy on a solo trip, and we really enjoyed him. Because of his tips, we got to enjoy everything and had the best seat in the house for the parade! His name is Erle. We ran into him right as we were exiting and got a picture with him. Every time I look at that picture, it makes me smile.

Then when I went over Halloween this year, there was one day when it looked like it was going to rain. The rain held off until EMH at Animal Kingdom that night where it poured. My best friend and I refused to buy ponchos (to this day, I have no idea why), and we were SOAKED. But we kept running around riding the rides as the park was completely deserted. There was only us and one other couple in It's Tough to be a Bug. But the best was when we were riding Primeval Whirl. Right before you start up the first hill, you have to sit for a few minutes, and of course we got stuck under this drain pipe type thing that just dumped water all over us. We were laughing so hard! It was so much fun!
