As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: All stars
The 3 resorts are identical in amenities, room layout & services. It's more a matter of preference: are you a sports nut, music lover or movie fanatic? Some don't care about the theming, to others it makes or breaks their stay.
My preference is Music!

Re: All stars
MUSIC! Movies has great theming, but is last on the bus stops and during busy times some passengers have to stand on the bus or even wait for the next one. Movies is so popular that it's likely to be more crowded than Music and Sports, and sometimes they don't offer the same great discounts at Movies that they do at the other value resorts, as they don't have as many empty rooms to fill because it is so popular.
Music is just right. Great theming and pools, right in the middle of things, lush landscaping, not too noisy. Perfect!

Re: All stars
Another vote for Music! I haven't stayed at Movies, but read in several places that Music is the way to go. Personally, the towering Disney figures at Disney are a little "too" much Disney for me, (if that's possible!). I like the theme of the instruments and the different areas, like the quiet walkway in Jazz or the picnic area in Country.
Depends on when you go however, I think that Music is where they put student groups in the early Spring for cheerleading competitions and such.
As far as ambiance, if you have younger kids and want them to be in awe and excited about staying next to the Towering buzz then by all means choose Movies, however if you have kids older than 10 (or it's just adults like me and my hubby in October), I'd go with Music. I think Broadway and Jazz are romantic!

Re: All stars
We have stayed at all three several times and love them all equally! I guess I lean towards Sports because of the first on the bus list convenience. They really are all fantastic though!

Re: All stars
Well, heck, I don't think there is a 'best' All-Star, but my favorite is also Music.
I've stayed at Music 3 times and Sports 2 times, and enjoyed both very much. I think Sports has a more interesting and exciting setup (the cushioned footbal field with giant Xs and Ox is so much fun!), but I prefer the more laid-back, quieter atmosphere of Music.
Of course, all three times I've been to Music, I've stayed in the Braodway section, which is at the far end from Melody Hall and the busy pool, making it one of the quietest parts of the resort. Buildings closer to Melody Hall would probably be noisier and busier.
Both times I've been to Sports, I was in Home Run Hotel, Bldg 9, which is not too far from Stadium Hall but not too close, either. It was noisier than Music, and I saw several high-school sports teams there in September (nothing like the thunder of 40 football players running to breakfast in full regalia at 8am to start your day!)
The difference is subtle, but Music is my fave.

Re: All stars
We haven't stayed at Sports, but between the other 2, Music is our preference (going back there next year). It seemed to us that the food court was better (set up, etc.) and the staff at Music, especially housekeeping, was much more on their toes. But really, either is fine. You'll enjoy your stay at either one.

Re: All stars
YOu have a vote here for Sports!!! We absolutely love the themeing (esp. Surf's Up). It's first in the bus stop line so you almost always get a seat and the first to be dropped off at the end of a long night.
However, I do think it's just a matter of opinion..it depends on whether you enjoy sports, music or movies more! LOL Our second favorite is Movies, Toy Story being our favorite over there.

Re: All stars
I think that all three All Star resorts are pretty much equal in quality, accommodations and service so it would come down to a matter of taste as far as the outdoor decorations and theming goes. We stayed at All Star Music and found it to be clean, quiet and comfortable. Were we to stay at an All Stars again, though, I think I might just try the All Star Sports simply because of the bus service. It would be nice to be the first ones picked up and dropped off at the resort. For the same reason, I think I would avoid All Star Movies like the plague. When we were at DW last February, there was frequent sharing of the All Stars buses and just about every time we were aboard, the buses were pretty full before we stopped at Movies and those poor folks were then forced to stand all the way to the parks. Other than the bus situation, I doubt that there's any significant difference between the 3 resorts.

Re: All stars
My vote is for Sports. I have stayed at Sports and music. I feel like the other poster did, the football field, and baseball pool were just great. I think its just a matter of which you like more sports or music. They both were equally clean & food courts were the same. The pools were about the same size, etc. I paid a little more for the Music last time just for the experience, now that I know - I will definately go with the one that I can get a better rate at.
Good luck & have fun no matter which you choose.

Re: All stars
Just pick the theme (sports, music, movies) and the building theme (surf's up, broadway, toy story) you think you'd like the best and go with it!! My DBF and I stayed in Surf's Up this Spring Break (we're kind of beach nuts) and had an absolute blast!!!! We were on the--get this--top floor, corner room, pool view, non smoking!! Holy moly, do those room assigners care about ya!!! Have a great time choosing!

Re: All stars
OK, now you've got me worried......
When I chose All-Stars Movies, I was reading that every one of the All-Stars had their own bus, so there was plenty of room for everyone. Otherwise I would have chosen one of the others.
Perhaps during the non-peak season the 3 resorts share a bus and during the busy season, they have more buses running?????
Please tell me that is the case.......
