As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Old Key West
My friend Peggy is tring to use up her 475 DVC points and is treating us to a 2BR Villa there the last week in August. I have never stayed there before and I was looking for advice, suggestions, opinions etc.... from the experts who have been there. I am excited to hear about it.
Peggy's home resort is The Boardwalk so when she starts giving away points that is usually where we stay.
Thank You

Re: Old Key West
We stayed in a two-bedroom this past March/April and ed it!! The master bedroom bath has a jacuzzi the second bedroom has a full bath but no jacuzzi. It also has its own kitchenette that's kinda like a wet bar area. Feel free to email me if you'd like. Or maybe go down to Don's new DVC forum and ask down there for more information?

Re: Old Key West
My in-laws are DVC members at OKW and we have stayed in a studio, a 1 BR, and a grand villa there. They were all great! The rooms at OKW are bigger than at BWV. The bedrooms are pretty much the same, but the kitchen/dining room/living room areas are much bigger. The 1 BR was bigger than the apartment we lived in at the time!
Another major difference to OKW is that everything is so spread out. That's fine if you want to relax, but not if you want to be in the middle of the action. Some of the rooms are far from the closest bus stop or pool, and many of the rooms are too far away from the Hospitality House and Olivia's to walk there quickly. You can request a room close to any of these, but they can't guarantee it. (If you don't care about being close to Hospitality House, I would recommend buildings 43 or 44, they're both close to a bus stop and a pool.)
Another reason we prefer not to stay there with small children is that since the buildings are all separate, there are no elevators to the second or third floors, and we don't want to lug strollers, etc. up and down 2 flights of stairs.
It is a beautiful resort, though, and I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Re: Old Key West
Some of the newer buildings do have elevators. But we weren't sure that we would be able to get in one of these buildings and so we requested a first floor room. We didn't have any problems getting our request.
It is a lovely resort and very laid back. In the evening it is peaceful walking around.

Re: Old Key West
We will be staying there in September at a villa. My Uncle has the points but we are buying them from him. It will be me, my husband, our 2.5 year old, my parents (totaly disneyphiles - they go 5-10 times a year), my Aunt and 3 of her 6 kids. We are totally psyched! We stayed there on September 15, 2001 - yes - the weekend after 9/11- it was the perfect atmosphere because there was NO action and I really needed the serenity since we were reeling from what just happened. It was quiet, clean, accommodating - we made most of our meals at the villa. The pools were just perfect! Nobody was there. The landscape is so tropical and I loved the rooms. But, it'll be interesting to see the difference a few years can make because this time the crowds will be normal. September, 2001 was a ghost town. The place was so empty that we actually we allowed to stay in our cars a TEST TRACK to go on again becaue there was NOBODY in line. In a way it was nice to have the place to ourselves. I wonder if we'll enjoy it as much this time??? Anyway - as far as Key West goes I love it. But, I did hear the Boardwalk timeshares are AWESOME. I think we will try to get where the action is this year as far as the pools go. The one thing I think that will be a draw back this time is the distance that Key West is from everything. We'll have a rental car, though so I think we'll drive everywhere. So - that's just my two cents! Have a blast - Disney is the greatest place on earth in my opinion!

Re: Old Key West
My wife and I were at OKW the weekend after 9/11 also....kinda sureal being in the happiest place on earth during one of the saddest times in U.S. history. We loved OKW so much ( we were honeymooners) that we made a promise to stay there every two years....if you do the math, that means that we will be at OKW again THIS Sept. the 13th through the 19th!

Re: Old Key West
We stayed at OKW last trip for the first time, and LOVED it! In fact, we are staying there again next year for a longer stay. The theming is beautiful, our villa was right on the water, and it felt like our own private condo. If I ever get around to doing a trip report, I will describe it for those who want to know!
