As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Getting Nervous about Poly
A few weeks ago i switched my aug. reservations at the POR with the fairytale package at the Poly. GV room... I have been hearing great things about the Poly but only on the concierge level. It seems that everyone stays concierge, and it makes me nervous that maybe i did the wrong thing by switching to the poly instead of somewhere else, {upgrading to the concierge
is out of the question}, so Has anyone stayed at thier regular rooms.... Is it as nice as the conceriage level....And any suggestions which room longhouse to request, it must be non-smoking because of health reasons...Please help put my mind at ease...
thanks susan

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
Hello,
I love POR but nothing ever beats any of the deluxe hotels at Disneyworld. The Polynesian hotel is in a better location and it is very nice. Don't worry and have fun - you'll really enjoy your stay there.

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
Even staying in one of the standard rooms at the Polynesian, you will be so thrilled. As I said in another post, the Polynesian is my favorite resort in Walt Disney World and we have never stayed in one of the concierge longhouses. Trust me, you will love this place.
BTW, Port Orleans is nice too, but they are apples and oranges .

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
A friend of mine and her family stayed at the Poly for the first time in January and loved it. Here is a quick excerpt from her report(they could not check in early when they arrived so went to the MK):
Quote:
Arriving by monorail at the Great Ceremonial House we went back to the desk and this time got our leis and our room assignment, #2928 on the second floor of Tokelau with a garden view. Tokelau is next to the quiet pool, but our room was on the other side of the building in a central location. The room itself was nicely appointed with Polynesian flare and had two queen beds and a day bed

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
We stayed at the Poly at the beginning of this month in a GV room. It was wonderful, we didn't get our first choice of the Tokelau Longhouse. We stayed in the Samoa longhouse (no smoking now) first floor and it was wonderful. We were only a short walk over the bridge to the GCH and Captain Cooks and there was a pool on each side of us. Turns out we liked this location a lot better then are original request. We would definetely stay in this longhouse again. It is a beautiful resort and you won't be disapointed. Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
TAJIH13,
You may well have trouble thinking of staying anywhere else after your trip. The Polynesian is a wonderful resort. The rooms are big, with low-key tropical decor. In our experience (2 stays), the place is immaculately kept.
The grounds are lushly beautiful. Be sure to allow yourself time for enjoying a hammock on the beach, and a couple of strolls just to enjoy the hibiscus, tikis, and palms.
The monorail access is great. Not only are you a quick ride from the MK, you also have a lot of fun dining options at the GF and Contemporary. You'll be a short walk from the TTC, too, where you can grab the monorail to Epcot.
Big bonus -- the Kona Cafe offers good food and excellent service for all three meals. If you're a java nut, be sure to hit their coffee bar on the way to the monorail in the morning.
Have a wonderful trip!

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
I have stayed at the Poly and NOT in the Concierge! It was fabulous! We had a lagoon view room, overlooking Cindy's Castle, GF and Contemporary. Our room was great, the service wonderful...I have absolutely NO complaints about the Poly! Relax and enjoy!

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
Noooo, NOTHING to worry about!!! We stayed in the Tokalau 1st floor, facing the quiet pool last year and loved it!!! Our room was large compared to most (even larger than the G.F. room this year). We really enjoyed it very much--can't say enough wonderful things about it. You made a perfect choice.

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
We just got back from the Polynesian 2 weeks ago! It was fantastic! We had a GV room. I had requested a 3rd floor room overlooking the marina or water and that's exactly what they gave us! It was fabulous! We stayed in Fiji in room 3314. We had a fantastic view of the marina and back of volcano pool. We had a clear view of the Contemporary across the lagoon and were able to watch the Electrical Water Pageant every night from our balcony! You cannot go wrong with the Polynesian. We are planning on returning in 2 years and will definitely stay there and request the Fiji longhouse again. You can also check my trip report which has a picture of the view from our room.
You won't be sorry staying here!

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
Don't you worry!
We stayed at the Poly last October in a standard room, garden view, and it was WONDERFUL. I absolutely loved it. The rooms are spacious (even with two adults and two kids in there, we had plenty of room), the service was great, we had no issues and wish we could afford to go back there next time!!!
Besides the room, you will love the lobby, the pool, the beach where you can see the castle and the GF, the swings on the beach to just sit and relax during the day or watch the fireworks at night, all the paths to explore (we rented a 4-seater bike and had a BLAST exploring), etc.
Oh yeah! If you can, have breakfast at O'hana with the characters. We did that on our first morning and it was a perfect start to our trip.
And here's the big bonus -- the monorail!
We love this resort (if you couldn't tell).
Have an incredible trip!

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
Hmmmm, the Poly has never held much appeal for us but after reading the rave reviews in this thread we may have to add it to the "Must Try" list!

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
No worries!! I have to agree with all of the above. It's very hard to want to stay anywhere else but the Polynesian after a visit there. I stayed there as a kid twice and later honeymooned at Tahiti(Moorea) longhouse and it was AWESOME!!! Later DH and I stayed at GF and loved it, but we'll be taking our family of six to the Polynesian simply because we love it there and have sooo many wonderful memories. The Polynesian has a very loyal following. WDWIG has a great informational section about the Polynesian at their website. Best of luck to you!!!

Re: Getting Nervous about Poly
Can a family of five (two adults, three children) stay at the Poly? I stayed there so many times as a kid that I want to try it for our family now.
