As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Our Bed and Breakfast \"LOVE\" Escape or as I like to call it, \"Ba(b)ble\" day 2 up
Who
Me: Wondcat or as the kids like to call me Pat, Pat the Wondercat
DH: Golfguy, loving and supporting husband of 31 years and very understanding of my love for another man, Mickey!
What
Wedding thank you gift from the Newlyweds
Where
The Vandiver Bed and Breakfast in Havre de Grace, MD
When
First week of July, 2005
Although we couldn't make it to WDW this year, no, I couldn't afford a wedding and a trip in one year, I had to write a trip report. I live for trips and reports. So here goes.
After two years of planning for this wedding, we really needed a trip. We really couldn't afford a trip, but we needed one. We have the time share thingy, but even that was a stretch at this time. We are thinking, maybe at the end of the year, Hawaii, Belize or the Canary Islands, but that is another story.
Anyhoo, when Alissa and Don were getting married, the night of their rehearsal dinner they presented us with a trip to a local B & B. As their way of thanking us for giving them the wedding of their dreams. Needless to say we were very appreciative and planned to take it as soon as we could.
They were married in March, the day before my birthday and they gave me a beautiful pair of Diamond earrings for my birthday, yes, and the trip, I was blown away!!
so, as soon as I could I started making plans for our trip.
We decided to go on a Sunday night and stay through Tuesday, it is very hard for me to get off on Saturday. Online, I found the website and also found a book where if you paid for one night you could get the second free, that meant that we could stay in the most luxurious suite and not have to pay any more. So, I ordered the book and sat back to wait for it to come. In the meantime, I noticed that they also had a mid-week special and you could get the most luxurous suite for $99.00, gasp!, but you couldn't use it with the coupon. What to do, what to do??
When the book FINALLY came, the season that you could use it in was over, so I spent $30.00 for nothing! I e-mailed the Inn with my predicament. They very kindly offered to let us use the $99.00 web special, which had also ended, so we planned to go for our Anniversary in June. However, something came up in June and we had to postpone our trip until July. July, hot, sticky July in Maryland, but Havre de Grace is on the water, it would be great!! We would be there Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and come home on Wednesday. We would go on the water, have fun, spend time together!
What the H--- is wrong with me, why, why, oh why, do I insist on going places the first week of the month?
Because, (and to the guys, I'm sorry but if you are reading this too, this is a spoiler) that is the week that FLO comes to visit! Now Flo hasn't be exactly flowing in a while, but I still get the awful leg cramps, bloat, headaches and just plain feeling miserable PMS. Why, oh, why won't I learn??!! In the meantime, I caught a virus, since it was so close, I couldn't cancel with out losing all of my money, because although the trip was a gift. I had to hold it with a Credit card until we got there with the gift certificate and if I canceled they would charge my account. I scheduled a doctors appointment and started to pack.

Although I was feeling sick, I still had to work on Friday. I had taken off on Saturday and didn’t really want to miss too many days.
I went to the Doctor and she gave me some medicine. I had been vomiting and diahrea-ing and running a fever. She said that my blood pressure was a little high and gave me some for that too. (I’m wondering now if it was connected to the virus) They also drew some blood, now I am not usually queasy about that sort of thing, but with the virus and it being so hot AND their AC wasn’t working, I almost passed out in the office. Finally I got out of there and headed home.
I did some Laundry and called the girls to make sure that they would take care of the dogs while we were away. Then I finally went to bed, I got to sleep in the next day, Saturday. I finished packing up what we would need. I wanted to take some clothes that would be cool since it was sooo hot, because I planned to go antique-ing and shopping while Richard was playing golf. He was playing at the new “Pro” golf course while we were there.
DH came home and said, “Now, tomorrow when you leave make sure you have your phone on so I can find you” I said what are you talking about? Aren’t you going with me? He said no, I have a Pool tournament and I will meet you there. I thought this is nuts, I had to be there by 3:00pm to check in. He wouldn’t be finished until 11:00pm or so, what was I going to do on a Sunday by myself in “little town” Maryland?
So, I packed up the car, showered and dressed and set out to find the B&B by myself. It was about a half-hour’s drive and the directions were pretty simple. I got there in no time and went up to the front door. It was answered by Alyssa; who welcomed me and gave me my keys. She also gave me a key to the main house so that we could let ourselves in for breakfast. These were charming houses with lots of gingerbread trim. We were staying in the Kent GuestHouse and not the main Vandiver Inn because this room was one of the deluxe ones. It had an iron Elliott four poster canopy bed with a crocheted canopy, a corner Jacuzzi tub and a cute little dry sink with fluffy towels, soaps, lotions, gels and bubbles. It’s own sitting area with a comfy couch, microwave, fridge, fireplace (which we didn’t need) and it’s own entrance and porch. It was decorated very nicely in a Victorian sort of style.
I opened the door and it was freezing in there, I mean freezing! I turned down the AC but left on the ceiling fan. I went out on the porch to smoke, since this was a non-Smoking Inn and I forgot the keys and locked myself out. Luckily, Alyssa was still there and let me in. She said it happens all the time, but it didn’t make me feel any smarter.
I had brought along some drinks and snacks and since I was still not feeling well, I lay down on the bed and I fell asleep. I woke up to my cell phone ringing, I answered it, but no one was there, I checked and it had been Richard, so I called him back. He started yelling at me for not answering it because, lo and behold he was finished early and on his way. I went out on the porch to wait for him and to smoke, I was also starving, not having had lunch or dinner. While I was waiting, the owner came up and asked if everything was ok and I said yes it was fine. I guess he wondered why I was sitting outside in the heat, instead of inside in the cool. I told him I came out to smoke and he said thank you and to wait for DH.
Finally I heard the motorcycle and Richard pulled up. He came in and looked the place over and said let’s go have some dinner. So, we went to a diner style restaurant to eat. I don’t even remember what I had, Richard had steak. We went back to the B&B and watched some TV and went to sleep. DH said that tomorrow, we would rent a boat and go out on the water. That he had seen a place that rents boats and it would have to be cooler on the water. These were the hottest days of the summer, the heat index that day had been 110 degrees.

It was only about 11:00pm and we got undressed and got into the big bed. Sunday night, not much on Tv, we watched the Davinci code and fell asleep, as I said I wasn't feeling well and Richard had worked that day, so we were pretty tired. Breakfast was served from 7:00am to 9:00am, we woke up at 9:00 am, so we missed breakfast. We got up to go look for a boat to rent.
As we were driving out of Havre de grace we saw a waffle house, we decided to stop and have breakfast since we had missed it at the B&B. Waffle houses always have the best breakfasts and coffee I understand. I don't drink it so I couldn't say, but my tea was good. I had scrambled eggs with country gravy and grits, it also came with, you guessed a waffle. DH had the steak and eggs and a waffle. My grits couldn't compare with the ones I had in SC last year though, they were yummy!! These were so so.
We were driving down the main street and saw an antique shop that had the "blues brothers" outside. There were statues, but very realistic. We drove and drove to the place where DH had seen the boats. When we got there they told us that we had to reserve two days in advance. So, we turned around and went back. Near the waterfront there was another boat rental place so we went there. They only had sail boats, we looked at each other and laughed. We knew that we would end up in the water so we left.
Alas, we were not to be on the water that day and it was HOT!! The heat index was 105!
We decided to walk down by the promenade to try to catch a breeze, surely it would be cooler by the water. HA! Even the many ducks looked hot and were hiding out under the boardwalk trying to catch some shade. I had on capri jeans and a black t shirt, what the heck was I thinking? I could not have been any hotter, plus I know that I was running a fever. We walked this half mile walkway to the famous Concord point light house. It is the oldest continuous lighthouse in MD.
We had seen so many decoys and ducks that we just had to stop at the decoy museum. Ah, air conditioning and a Budweiser sign, finally, it was closed, we walked on. There were dozens of geese everywhere and plenty of goose poo. I was amazed at the size of goose poo, it looked like dogs had been there, big dogs.
At one end of the promenade, there was a pier, the bay was so full from all of the recent rain that it was actually lapping over the boards. There was a little boy fishing and I told him to be careful not to fall in because you couldn't tell where the end of the pier was!
We couldn't stand it anymore, so we walked back to the car. everywhere we looking people were coming in with their boats in tow. We were so jealous. With our tongues hangin out we decided to go and have a drink. We had seen a sports bar earlier and stopped there. We spent quite an enjoyable time there talking to the locals and sipping our drinks. DH was talking 'pool' with the guys and I was really just sitting there being cool. I was sort of half listening to the conversations and heard one of the ladies say that she had gotten her husband a blow up sheep for Christmas and he had put a hole in it. I knew she was teasing him, but I just had to LOL!!
We decided to go back for a nap before dinner. Since we hadn't rented the boat, we could afford a nice dinner. sorry these are so small
