Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Pumpkin

All this talk of pumpkin and fall things makes me want to bake tomorrow. Anyone have some pumpkin recipes to share other than pie?

Re: Pumpkin

off the top of my head...mix a small can of pumpkin with a chocolate cake mix (or spice is good, too!), don't add anything else, just the mix and pumpkin. scoop into muffin tins and bake 350 for about 15 minutes. Dense, chewy tasty muffins packed with vitamins and low fat!

The other thing I love to make is peanut pumpkin soup...I'll have to find the recipe and post it soon!

Re: Pumpkin

Pumpkin Custard

1 egg (separate yolk and white)
1 cup pumpkin
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
3 tablespoons flour
cinnamon**
nutmeg**
ginger**
clove**

Mix egg yolk, pumpkin, sugar, milk, flour and spices.
In a separate container beat egg whites to soft peaks. Fold into pumpkin mixture.
Pour into an oven-proof bowl.
Place a pan of water in the bottom of the stove when baking for better results.
** season to taste (since this is a recipe I've made since I was a kid I don't have measurements anymore)
You can also pour this into a pie shell and have a yummy pumpkin pie.

I have a recipe for pumpkin cheesecake at home. I'll try to remember to post that later.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin Doughnuts

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 large egg
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
3 tablespoons canola oil

Preheat oven to 400°F. Lightly oil a doughnut baking pan or coat it with nonstick spray.

In a large bowl, whisk flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg.

In another large bowl, whisk egg, buttermilk, brown sugar, pumpkin puree, and oil. Add dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Spoon about 1/4 cup batter into each mold for regular sized doughnuts. For the mini size, use about 2 tablespoons of batter.

Bake doughnuts for 8 to 14 minutes, or until puffed and browned. They should spring back when lightly touched. Loosen edges and invert onto a wire rack to cool. Repeat with remaining batter if using 1 pan.

If you want a glaze - mix 1 cup powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract with enough milk or cream to make it spreadable/pourable.

Re: Pumpkin

This isn't a baking recipe, but I got it from the Disney Insider email tonight.

Pumpkin Smoothie

Try This Great Dessert With FamilyFun

What can you do when you're in the mood for homemade pumpkin pie, but you're squashed for time? Whip up a batch of these thick and tasty pumpkin smoothies.

Ingredients

3/4 cup milk or vanilla yogurt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. brown sugar
4 ice cubes

Directions

Combine ingredients in blender and puree until smooth.

Pour the smoothies into small glasses (this drink is rich) and garnish each with a dollop of vanilla yogurt or whipped topping. For a fun touch, add a pinch of cinnamon or a few colored sprinkles. Serves 2 or 3.

Re: Pumpkin

I love to add butternut squash and pumpkin to my chili con carne this time of year. No special recipe. I just toss in some squash and pumpkin in small pieces when I put everything in the crockpot.

Pumpkin Walnut Muffins

Pumpkin Walnut Muffins

stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
3/4 cup canned solid-pack pumpkin
1/4 cup well-shaken buttermilk
2 large eggs
3 tablespoons unsulfured molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white whole-wheat flour or all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup chopped pitted dates (about 4 ounces)
3/4 cup finely chopped walnuts (about 3 ounces)

Preheat oven to 400° F. and grease twelve 1/2-cup muffin cups.
Melt butter and cool slightly. In a bowl whisk together butter, pumpkin, buttermilk, eggs, molasses, and vanilla. Into a large bowl sift together flours, baking powder, spices, salt, and baking soda and whisk in brown sugar. Make a well in center of flour mixture and add pumpkin mixture, stirring just until combined. Stir in dates and divide batter among cups. Sprinkle walnuts evenly over batter in each cup and bake muffins in middle of oven 20 to 25 minutes, or until puffed and a tester comes out clean. Cool muffins in cups 5 minutes and turn out onto a rack. Serve muffins warm or at room temperature.

Makes 12 muffins.

I JUST got my weekly email from WS! They are featuring "The Great Pumpkin Cake Pan", with a scrumptious looking recipe to go along with it. Check it out: "A celebration of the autumn harvest, our all-natural mix yields a moist, spicy Bundt® cake with minimal preparation. The pumpkin-spice cake is laced with a buttery streusel filling made from brown sugar and premium California-grown walnuts. It’s a delicious complement to the cake, which includes American-grown pumpkin, pure Madagascar bourbon vanilla, cinnamon and allspice. Created for use with Williams-Sonoma Bundt® pans, this mix makes it easy to bake a cake that tastes as luscious as it looks. A sprinkling of confectioners’ sugar or a simple glaze is embellishment enough." I'm with you, Joan. Think I'm gonna have to Mosey on over to WS and pick it up (drool....).

Re: Pumpkin

I live closest (of the Massachusetts - Maryland - Florida), so you'd have to drive up to borrow them, but then we could take a quick jaunt over to Virginia to the WS Outlet in Leesburg!

I actually saw them two weeks ago at the mall, drooled, put them back till payday (today!). I did pick up the recipe cards. I so totally need these pans for Thanksgiving dinner.

There was also another bundt pan similar to the sandcastle cake pan I got over the summer (I'll have to post a photo of Rachel's bday cake). I put it on a cake plate, covered the base in natural sugar (sand colored) and put the cake on top, decorated with flags and a light sugar glaze. It was so cute! Anyway, it's like a gingerbread house or German type house, and they just sprinkled powdered sugar over it. It is too cute and I have to have it too!

Ya can't MAIL it down to me?

Joan, I'm curious. Did you have any trouble getting the cake out of the sandcastle bundt pan? I've heard those specialty shapes can be a bear in that respect.
