My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions.... - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions....
Hello,
Thanks for all of the GREAT info you share! I've learned so much! I have 2 girls (6 and 10) and a DH. This trip (their first) is a HUGE surprise for our girls. We are not going to tell them we are going to Disney until the day we leave! (DH and I are going to put on mouse ears and wake them up.) We leave 9/29 and will be staying 5 days/4 nights at the FW Cabins.
A few questions:
1. We are flying and won't have a car. Where/how can I get some groceries? I've read that some "basics" are available at FW. I read somewhere about a "service" where you can order groceries and they will be delivered to you. Don't think it was a Disney service. Any thoughts?
2. Golf carts? Yes or No? I have reserved one but can still cancel.
3. Are the "campfires" with Chip and Dale worth it?
Re: My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions....
Kris I can't answer your questions as I have never stayed at FW, but I'm sure someone will come along that will be glad to help!! I just wanted to you to the boards!!
Re: My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions....
Welcome to the boards
I haven't stayed at FW either, but I know someone will come along to help you out. I'm not sure if people use netgrocer.com to deliver groceries or somewhere else. The store at FW should have some things but not sure what you are looking for

How are you getting from the airport to WDW? Tiffany Towncar Service includes a 30-minute stop at a grocery store on the way to the resort.
2. Golf carts? Yes or No? I have reserved one but can still cancel.
If you are going to be staying at the campground alot, I would say yes, otherwise don't bother. You should be able to get to and from the bus corral without too much of a walk.

to the boards.
The only question I can answer is about the groceries. I have heard good things about wegoshop.com. They are a personal shopper for you and deliver to your resort. We may use them in December since we are flying and using Magical Express. This is the site for the couple that services the WDW area -
Re: My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions....
Welcome to the boards!
You'll love Ft. Wilderness and the kids will adore it. Mine did.
We didn't do golf carts when we were there, we just used the internal buses, and we were very close to a bus stop. If you don't like walking though, golf carts are handy. We're just cheap, mainly.
The campfire show is worth it for the kids. They open with a sing-a-long. There will be lots of tunes from your own childhood, including the Mickey Mouse song where they make the kids make Mickey ears on themselves. Whether or not you like the movie that particular night is another matter. You can always go for the sing-a-long and the marshmallow roast and not stay for the movie. It's all free, so it's definitely "worth it". Relaxing.
As for the grocery service, others will know better. I've always used Tiffany Town Car from the airport and had the 30 minute grocery stop at Publix. You can ship groceries from home to arrive at your resort and they'll hold it till you arrive (never tried this either, though). There are one or two services which deliver.
Have a wonderful time. Just remember, surprising the kids is fabulous for the first trip, but if you ever take them again, they want to help plan!
Re: My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions....
I have heard good things about wegoshop.com. But, like Rob, we also use the grocery service that our towncar provides. We use Quicksilver-- I don't think you can go wrong with Tiffany or Quicksilver-- they both get great reviews. If your interested in Quicksilver, you can pm me, I know the phone number and website info.
I've stayed in Ft. Wilderness, in a camper (my grandparents stayed nearby in a cabin)-- we didn't have a golfcart, but if you plan to spend alot of time in the campground, I'd do it-- if not you'll probably have to take an internal bus around the campground.
I've never done the campfire personally, but have heard great reviews of it. I know you go and buy a bag of marshmallows, and afterward there is a movie. Next time we stay at Wilderness Lodge we're definitely doing it-- though if your on a short trip, I probably wouldn't want to give up a night at the parks for it-- depends on your schedule.
Re: My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions....
First of All Welcome to the Boards!
Second there are basics for groceries at FT Wilderness but there is a grocery service i believe its wegoshop or something like that maybe someone here will have the exact name.
A Golf Cart at the Ft Wilderness would be a great thing to use as it makes travelling to the marina and outpost very easy.
I haven't been to the campfire but people seem to really like it.
Re: My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions....
Thanks to all who have responded to my original post. Wegoshop is exactly what I was looking for to order groceries! (We are transferring to the resort by DME, and I'm just assuming they won't stop at a grocery store.)
I think I'll keep my reservation for the golf cart and try it out. If we don't need it, I'll turn it in.
Thanks again for the info! You are all a wealth of info and I'm glad I bought a Passporter and found these boards!
Re: My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions....
to the boards! DSinlaw & DBinlaw and family stayed in the cabins many times and they loved them! They had a golf cart and took us for a ride through the cabin and campground area. I think you'll have a great time there. with your trip.
Re: My very first post...staying at FW cabin...have a few questions....
Welcome!
You are going to have so much fun surprising your girls!!
My last few trips we have taken a soft-sided cooler with water, Gatorade, and different foods. I freeze the water and Gatorade (empty about an inch out of each bottle so there is room for expansion when freezing.) I place every thing in large zip lock bags so it doesn't leak. I then check the bag as regular luggage. On our return trip we now have an extra bag to pack all the souvenirs that decided to move home with us.
