Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What should I take???

I've checked the books, I've read the boards. I know that it is worth my time to throw an extension cord into my suitcase and check out the clearance section at the local Disney store in order to bring some surprises for my 5 year old to find under her pillow each night (and to keep me from going broke at the gift shops).

But, I'm sure I'm missing something.

For those of you who've cruised Disney before (with kids - this is my first trip as a Mama), what would you not leave home without?

I've already got a stack of things ready ... three bathing suits each, gallon size ziploc plastic bags, a bunch of singles for tipping, Disney pillowcase with laundry marker for character signing, our own large covered sports bottles to fill up on ice water by the pool ... but there must be something else you seasoned family folks take that I could forget.

SPILL!!!!!

Thanks,

An over the door hanging shoe holder!! Hang it in your bathroom use out all your tioiletries in it - brushes, toothpast, hiar stuff, etc. There is very little counter space and this will help keep everything in place!

Re: What should I take???

Get a shoe holder that hangs in the closet too, then you can stuff things (shoes, hair brushes, toys) that you don't want just taking up space in the room.

Small foldable fabric cooler, so when you head out on an excursion or just a walk around the ports, you can take a bottle of water and a sandwich from room service (order the sandwich the night before and use your ziplock baggies to store it in the fridge). No cost to you for the room service and saves you money for better souvenirs!

Travel Duct Tape - you just never know.

Re: What should I take???

I always make sure to take a bag for excursions - a tote bag or backpack. You want something that will hold some bottled water, maybe a snack, something to keep the 5 year old entertained (I take my gameboy with cartoons for DS to watch - they make lots of choices and each cartridge has 40 minutes worth of shows on it).
This may sound silly, but a floppy hat. The kind that you can fold and pack. They may look silly but they do a great job keeping the sun off your face and neck.

I am LOVING this idea! LOL! Order it from room service the night before. You're da bomb!

When I traveled to China to adopt my daughter everyone on the adoption e-lists talked about taking duct tape for the very same reason you mentioned. I took a small roll and, although I didn't use it, it came in handy when one of the members of our travel group bought a bucycle in China! He used the tape to shipping box in.

Keep the tips coming, people! I know it isn't just me who is going to garner info from them!

Thanks!

Re: What should I take???

I have a hanging bag I use for my makeup. So I bought this metal Christmas wreath holder(at the Container store, $5.00) to hang my bag on the bathroom door. It looks like a long, flat rod with(going in different directions)hooks on each end. It worked really well on our Carnival cruise. Also I read on this board, to bring a pad of post-its(the kind that has the magnet on the back)to put on your door so you and your cabin mates can leave notes if you split up.

Re: What should I take???

Wendy,
You may have this web site already but just wanted to pass it along in case you haven't seen it. I have not cruised before but will be going in about 45 days. Make sure to make a list and double check before you leave for the port.

Re: What should I take???

Just got back from the 8/28 4-night Wonder. I bought and did use the over-the-door shoe holder for toiletries. Got it at the dollar store so just threw it away instead of packing to take home. Had the duct tape as a "just in case" didn't use it, but you never know. We did not bring an extension cord and never was in need of one. Also bought a pop-up mesh hamper from the dollar store and it fit nicely in the closet next to the safe. Bought glow necklaces and braclets from the party store at home for the kids. Did not need the beach towels we brought from home - had plenty on-board and for shore excursions. Didn't think we'd need the foldable cooler for water - but wound up buying one on Castaway Cay - but it was a nice souvenir.

Re: What should I take???

"Bring" a plan for managing dirty laundry, and for longer cruises bring some laundry supplies (detergent tablets are a good choice) and quarters for the machines. Detergent packages on board are $1, as are washer loads and medium-to-small dryer loads, so the costs aren't bad, but you may as well be prepared.

My dirty laundry plan entails using an empty suitcase that slides under the bed as a hamper (it shouldn't be more than eight inches high). Some folks use the bottom of their closets for dirty wash, but some folks bring too much other stuff.

Re: What should I take???

I have a question about the dry cleaning/ironing services on board. WIth the formal night the first full day, is there enough time to have your tux pressed - I'm thinking give them to the steward Sat night when we board, and getting them back on Sunday afternoon.
