Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: quandary

First off, welcome to the boards!!

Not sure what your situation is, etc. but we did love to stay at Pop Century and All Star (movies). But, we also only have DH, me and a three year old, so I'm not sure if space is the issue, etc. We really liked the pools and loved to swim to cool off - essential in July. But I've also never stayed at CBR, so I can't tell you about the resort.

And we've never stayed without renting a car, so I really can't help you with the bus thingy either.

Gee, I guess I really wasn't much of a help with this, was I? Sorry! I do know that one plus for CBR is that Kelly (goofy4goofy) works there and she really likes it!

Whatever your decision, I'm sure you will be very happy. Remember, you're at the Happiest Place on Earth! Have a wonderful time!

Re: quandary

We have never stayed at the Carribean, but we do ALWAYS rely on WDW transportation instead of renting a car. It takes a little more time to get where you want to go, but as long as you don't mind that, it is great to not have to deal with parking, and it also seems to keep you more "wrapped up" in the magic of Disney!

Re: quandary

Another great thing with the buses is that they take you to the gates of each park. You do have to walk a little to get to the gate, but it's much closer than if you drive and park.

Re: quandary

I've stayed at Caribbean Beach 3 times, have never had a car. WE've loved it each time!!! The only thing I would recommend-- if you can swing it, get preferred location. Caribbean Beach is huge, and you could be stuck out in the boon docks (Trinidad South) and need to rely on a bus just to get around the resort. If you cannot do preferred location, request Aruba or Jamaica (but remember you're going in July, a busy time, and there's a good chance they won't be able to meet your request). Another option is you could stay at Port Orleans French Quarter -- its the same price as Caribbean Beach -- and you won't need to pay for preferred location because its so small-- you'll be able to walk to food court/main pool no matter where you are.

Re: quandary

We stayed at CBR April this year, we drove so we did have a car. But, we used Disney buses alot. No problems! In fact we were very close to the bus stop, we stayed in Jamaica 45. Are you getting a prefered room? DD age 16 loved the hammocks at the beach area, and the mouse boats!

Re: quandary

Welcome to the Boards This is a fun bunch.
Hey you have to add a ticker or some fun info at the end of your posts. go to "my home" and set that up. It's fun to see when people are going and when they've been.
CBR definitely request to be near a bus stop.
We've NEVER gone to disney with a car, so i only know from not having a car that it is NO problem at all. Just have to know that it may take longer to get places but that is part of the fun, you meet some cool people while you are waiting.

Re: quandary

The busses are a little more convenient at the CBR compared to the All-Stars, but if that's the only reason you want to upgrade, I'd say save your money.
The rooms at the CBR are bigger and they come with a mini-fridge, so that's a bonus as well.

Re: quandary

Welcome to the Boards! I would say go with CBR its a very nice hotel and the rooms are a bit larger and the mini fridge is a godsend if you bring back leftovers or buy milk or juice in the shop at the hotel and want to say eat breakfast in the hotel room before going to the park!

Have fun Planning!

Re: quandary

I haven't been to CBR but have done All Stars twice. We drove to DW but never touched our van once we parked at AS until we were leaving. We never had a problem using the buses and got to where we wanted to go easily. The rooms are small and would be best for no more than 2 adults and 2 smaller kids. We just had 1 when we stayed before. We can't use AS now as a family of 5 so we are staying Off site next trip.

I'm sure the CBR is wonderful and would love to stay there if I had extra money. However, since we spend very little time in our room, we choose to spend our extra money on other things. We do plenty of character meals and dinner shows and souveniers and planned activities for the kids, like the Tea Party.

I think you should choose based on how you want to spend your money.

Re: quandary

I think whenever you have a chance to experience a nicer resort, I say go for it. Now, if the money is going to really make things tight, then no, I wouldn't do it.

I think you will really enjoy CBR. As the others have said, make a request for a room close to the food court, etc., in order to keep walking to a minimum. Jamaica seems to be a nice location as well.

Re: quandary

Welcome to the boards! We stayed at CBR on our first trip and really loved it. The theming is great, and the rooms are larger than those at the All Stars. When it comes to bus service, all three All Star resorts share the same buses, so they may be more crowded. CBR gets its own buses, which may make it a bit easier to get around.
