Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

More dumb questions...

...from a gal who's been out of the scrapping loop a while.

Ribbons, fabric - are they acid free? Do they need to be misted?

What on earth are decorative, 3-D eyelets and taglets?!

What do you use tags for?

And the bonus question: How do you justify spending $600 in 3 months are scrapping supplies to your tight-fisted, penny-pinching, Ebeneezer husband who has no concept of what scrapbooking is? (Mine calls it 'crapbooking'. )

Re: More dumb questions...

DH and DDs ask when I'm going to my next "crap" He has yet to correct them although he does value my hobby, bless him. I would not count on ribbons and fabric being photo safe, so either mist them or put them away from photos. Some is labelled and some isn't, but better safe than sorry.

3-D eyelets are just decorative thingies you attach like eyelets. I prefer brads, myself as I haven't confidently mastered the whole eyelet thing yet.

Tags are a nice addition for journaling, it just adds a little extra dimension. the M&T at Archivers was a library pocket with 3 tags in it, so you get all that extra journaling space without taking up a lot of room. The only thing I don't like about it is you can't use top loading page protectors and have easy access to that kind of thing, so for pages you are adding 'kinetic' embellishments to, you'll need to use a regular scrapbook page (Kolo makes nice ones)

$600 is an INVESTMENT in the preservation of your family's past to pass on to your children and their children after them. Our society is quickly losing its heritage b/c people don't care enough about 'old stuff'...it's a big "whatever", but it is *very* important. Also, bear in mind that starting up again takes a big hit up front, but once you get re-supplied, it won't be that much. Really. Or that's what I keep telling myself! No, really, it won't be that much once you have re-stocked and gotten all your tools lined up. Just tell him it's cheaper than therapy, that's what I tell my DH!

Oh, and BTW, the only "dumb question" is the one that isn't asked!!!

Thank you so much, Dawn! There are so many new things to try since I last put an album together. It's a little overwhelming.

Re: More dumb questions...

Ribbons, fabric - are they acid free? Do they need to be misted?
<font color="blue"> I have become addicted to ribbon so fabric can't be far behind. I don't know if they are acid free or not, but looking back on recent pages I have only used ribbon on my pages that doesn't touch a photo. (OK, there are a few exceptions where I went across a photo) </font>

What on earth are decorative, 3-D eyelets and taglets?! <font color="blue"> eyelets add a nice decorative touch to a page and are a great way to attach vellum, which does not respond well to most adhesives </font>

What do you use tags for?
<font color="blue"> Oh, how I love tags. I use them for journaling and they are easy to hide in pockets or behind photos when there is not room for journaling. I also have used them to add a decorative touch to a page that had a blank spot. </font>

And the bonus question: How do you justify spending $600 in 3 months are scrapping supplies to your tight-fisted, penny-pinching, Ebeneezer husband who has no concept of what scrapbooking is? (Mine calls it 'crapbooking'. )
<font color="blue">You just don't bring it up! I just did a memory board for my DFIL who loved to fish. When I was looking for quotes about fishing I found a priceless one. "My only fear is when I die my wife will sell my fishing gear for what she thinks I paid for it". I showed it to DH and said substitue fishing gear for scrapbook stuff and wife for husband. He got a big kick out of that.

But like Dawn said, it is a small price to pay to collect precious family memory that would otherwise fade away or be forgoten</font>

Trust me, the last thing I would do is bring it up. He asks - everytime I go to the craft store, he asks now. I'm at the point where I'm shredding receipts in the car if he lets me go to the craft store alone.

Re: More dumb questions...

Not like this has anything to do with your question, butu have you been to the Scrapbook store on Northwood Ave in Palmer?? Right next to the Cross Stitch store. They have some nicer stuff that Michael's doesn't carry. BUt maybe you should stick with Michael's - now that you know where it is

I usually pay for half in cash and half with credit card , that way it's not too obvious, either that or just stay under 20.00 each time and always pay cash...honestly, this is the only expense I'm that devious (deceitful?) with...

I thought I knew Palmer well, but I have no earthly idea where Northwood Ave. is. Is it anywhere near Northwood Racquetball Club? I used to be a member there, but I don't remember whether it was on Northwood Ave.

Directions, my dear! I need landmarks, something to go by! The area has changed so much since I moved up north. Coming back down the mountain, I have to relearn all the street names again!

Would you be up for a scrapping spree anytime soon? I'm 10 minutes, at most, from Palmer.

Why yes The NORTHWOOD Racquet Club is on NORTHWOOD AVE (Got to bust on you for that one!!)
If you were coming from Rt 33 on 248 instead of turning right to the raquet club - turn left - it not in the strip mall where NORTHWOOD deli is Its just past that on the left. I think it is just called "The Scrapbook Store" it is in a building with another craft store called "Stitch and Count". I think once upon a time there was a pool supply place in there. If you get to Stokes Electric Supply, you've missed it. They have classes and scrap meets there too.
I'm not buying any more stuff until we get into our new house. Then I'd be up for a scrap!!

Okay, okay...we'll chalk it up to a blonde moment.

Since a scrap spree is out until you're all moved in, we should get together for lunch or something so we can finally meet in person!

DJ keeps asking who the 'dorable girl' is in your signature. A Dora swimsuit apparently = 'dorable' in DJ-speak
