Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Resort Food Courts

We are going to WDW in November and are staying at the ASMo. We have never stayed on site before, so please bear with the stupid questions!

Are we allowed to use the food courts at any of the resorts or just the one at ASMo? What about the pools?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Resort Food Courts

I assume you can eat at any food court just as you can eat at any restaurant... but you are limited to the pool of your resort (like if you were staying at the Poly you couldn't go use the GF's pool), but in terms of the all stars, we've never stayed there so I don't know if you can use all the pools at each one or if you have to stay at the one for your particular all start resort. That's an interesting question.

This isn't quite correct.
You can only use the pools at the All Star Resorts, Movie, Music or Sports only. (they are what are called Sister Resorts and allow usage of thier pools by anyone staying at an All Star). You cannot use pools at any other resorts.

Re: Resort Food Courts

right. eating is allowed at any of the foodcourts or resort restaurants (baring any PS or dress code pre-requisite). Swimmiing at the resort pool or spa is restricted to guests of that particular resort.. ASMo you can swim at any of the All Star Pools but not at say, Pop Century.. or any of the other pools.

Re: Resort Food Courts

That is one of my favorite things to do, eat at different resort restaurants. The pool at Stormalong Bay(Beach/Yacht Club)you have to show your room key to get a wristband so you can't use this resort pool w/o a B/YC room key.

Re: Resort Food Courts

Also, the refillable mugs are only valid at the resort they were purchased from.

you can eat at any of the Food Courts, and unless there is a new rule, you can use any of the All star mugs at any of their Food courts.

Re: Resort Food Courts

Yes, you can eat at any food court or resort restaurant. I enjoy resort hopping & looking around (planning my next stay) The refillable mug is used pretty much at every resort. It is stated "only" where purchased, but it is not enforced. They really should just let it go. :

You can only swim at sister resorts from what I've read. Ex: All star (any of the 3) POrleans & Riverside etc.
I think you will enjoy the convience of being on-site, especially after a long day.
Enjoy!

I don't think it stinks. I also don't think it stinks that the resorts have 3-hour time limits for non-Guests to park in their lots. After all, if I am paying to be there, why should somebody else get to use the pool for free? It would open the door to hordes of locals to flood the WDW resort pools.

DVC members are allowed to pool-hop at any WDW resort. It's one of the perks you get for paying so much to be a DVC member, and doesn't create a crowding problem at the resort pools, so I don't mind that perk.

Re: Resort Food Courts

Hmmm well since you would also be on WDW property it would go for you too, to use other pools. From what I heard or saw you could try out the different pools as long as you were a guest of WDW hotels. Depending on what reason you are at a different hotel 3 hours may not be enough. What if dinner ran over?? Or longer waits? If I was spending my money in that hotel they should not have to pay for parking.

I have to say, I agree with Will. If anyone staying at a Disney resort could use any pool, Stormalong Bay would be too packed to enjoy. People that stay there pay alot more money than those at moderates and values, and should be able to enjoy that pool. I wish I could afford to stay there hehehe!! It looks beautiful-- maybe someday.

Re: Resort Food Courts

I think you are missing a key thing her BethC. Each resort is run as a seperate resort. Just because they are all on WDW property doesn't make them part of a community of resorts where everyone can use all the facilities of the others no matter which you stay in. That would be sheer chaos. It would also be like going to stay at a Ramada on I-Drive and deciding that you liked the pool better at the Holiday Inn and using it. Not done.

(Honestly we don't use the pools anyway...swimming at WDW, to me, is wasting precious time I can swim at home.) BUT, with that said, I know DH is very excited to use the pool at the AKL b/c he's heard so much about it. So I would be disappointed if it were full of people from every other resort on Disney property when I'm paying to be there. It's an ammenity that is specific to that resort.

And 3 hours, I think, is enough time to park your car at another resort if you are visiting for dinner. If you're worried about that, then use WDW transportation, which is available to all resort guests, and stay as long as you please. In the past when we've driven, we park the car and we don't see it again until we leave.
