Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

People and dogs....RANT
Our fireworks in Lansing were postponed until last night because we had a terrible rainstorm on the evening of the 4th of July. Last night I went down to watch the firworks and took Belle. It is good for her to get use to crowds, other dogs and loud noises. The fireworks do not faze her because I desensitized her to them back in the spring (they have fireworks at the ballpark on Friday and Saturday evenings and I would take her down to the park...outside the gates of course and let her experience what it is like) so I knew she would be fine. We walked around a bit and waved our way through the crowds. She is a puller but will listen to most commands if I hold a liver treat out for her. She will do just about anything for food! We worked on "sit", "down" "stay" and "look". She hasn't even close to mastered "heal" and "no pull" but we are working on it. We encountered about 15 dogs...ten of them being pit bulls. I would gather up her leash make her "sit" or "down" and "stay" she would listen about 50% of the time (which is pretty good for a 18 month old puppy)!
As we approached the river I noticed a pit bull and a couple sitting on a picnic table. The pit bull got up and ran toward Belle dragging it's leash. The dog sized Belle up and lunged. My heart jumped to my throat and adrenaline hit me. I pulled Belle away she was snarling at the pit and was ready to fight. The girl came over grabbed her dog's leash and pulled her dog away. I yelled, "Oh my god put your dog on a leash." She replied, "He IS on a leash." then I said, "Well you might want to think about HOLDING ON TO IT!" and I walked away and made Belle "sit" and "stay" to gain her attention. As we walked away the pit was growling and snarling at Belle who now had her attention focused on me. That could have been a very bad situation...very bad. Belle might be a smaller scruffy dog but don't let that cute face fool you if she ever got into a fight with another dog she would kick it's butt...even a pit bull! She would NEVER bite a human on purpose (unless they were hurting me) but she would go after another dog that challenges her in a second. However I have control over her and I know her limits and her personality. It just bothers me when people are so lackadaisical about their dogs and think that they can just loosely hold on to their leashes when there are so many other people and dogs around (especially a pit bull)! Belle is very well socialized (she goes to dog daycare 3 or 4 times a week). She plays very rough (she IS a terrier!) but she knows limits although she does need to be reminded every now and then! Belle is still learning (again she is only 18 months old). Next fall I am going to go to formal training classes with her. Hopefully we can work on leash pulling and listening 100% of the time. Sorry this is so long…thanks for listening.

That's very annoying. We have a part pit and would never let her off leash where other dogs are around. I'm glad nothing bad happened.

I have no tolerance for people who don't take proper care of their animals or proper responsibility. I would have looked for a police officer. Glad that nothing bad happened to you or Belle.

Oooh that makes me so mad! A big part of pet ownership is responsibility! Glad that you and Belle were OK.

I am glad that everything turned out fine for you and Belle. I think it is terrrible that the pit bull was not being monitored properly. That girl was very irrisponsible and should take better care of her dog.

Re: People and dogs....RANT
I'm also glad that Belle is okay. Irresponsible pet ownership is really my pet peeve. There are more and more breeds getting a bad rap and I truly believe that it is the pet owner who should be to blame. We have owned large & small doggies and even pit bulls and always keep them undercontrol & on leash.
Good for you for telling that girl to keep a hold of the leash & for the training you've already given Belle, I'm sure she will really enjoy more they to please

Re: People and dogs....RANT
We have the same issue with some owners in a townhouse about 3 doors down. They never put there dog on a leash and then yell at us when we come outside with Ana on her leash and they can't control their dog. It's amazing how inconsiderate and rude people can be. I feel ya!! I am glad that both you and Belle came out of it ok! Sounds like you are doing great with her training.

Do you have a townhome association? We have rules that state that all dogs must be leashed when outside. If not, you can report the people and they will be warned, then fined and then reported to animal control. If anything happened to you or your dog on common property, you can sue the association so they don't like to have dogs running loose.

They have been warned multiple times regarding the leash issue and the cleaning up of doggy do-dos (or lack thereof). We've made a written complaint to the board last week and are awaiting an answer.

Re: People and dogs....RANT
I hate it when people don't have their dogs on a leash, or the leash is so long that it might as well not be there at all.
