As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Another SIL rant--UPDATE
UGH! I've said it before and I'll say it again, my SIL is a piece of work. She was planning on moving locally, but some unfortunate circumstances happened and she was going to stay w/ a friend and takeover her lease. Now, she is moving into city, an iffy area on the northwest side of Chicago about 45 minutes away from us (I was helping look after my niece and nephew after school and on weekends). She taking over another friends lease. She works in the same suburb that she lives in and will add about 1 hour onto her commute.
I asked her about the school system (as DN was doing horribly in 7th grade in a very good school system) and she's considering sending them to private school as the Chicago Public Schools are pretty bad. I think she won't be able to afford to do this as the fees are over $300 a month per child. So, my DN and DN will be attending a low income middle school that ranks in the 50% tile and has over 15% students english as a 2nd language. They will have wear uniforms due to the gang activity in the area. I just have a bad feeling about this and feel my DN is going to have major problems there. HOpefully, this won't last more than 6 months and she'll be back in the area by Christmas.
I need major pixie dust for my niece and nephew as this is their 3rd school in 1 year.
THanks
UPDATE-- Well it's already starting to turn into a fiasco. It turns out that the landlord isn't even in town and hasn't run any paperwork, credit check, etc. My SIL has been thinking that she could move in this week all by word of mouth. From what she has hinted about her credit, I don't think that will happen. We may have to co-sign for her on any place she gets (which is a really scary thought)
DH was helping her move last night from her previous home (it seems she had a falling out with the friend she was staying with) into a storage unit, she is staying with the friends she thought she was going to sublet from in the city. We are trying to talk her into staying in the area. She could get something for what she would be paying in the city. We have also offered to have the kids stay here at our place while she looks (the kids are 13 and 11). I'm going to ask my DH if it would be alright for her to stay here for a month (we have a small 2BR townhome) so she can save $ for a deposit before school begins. I think DH is going to sit her down and talk to her this weekend when we have the kids. This is just par for the course with her.

Being that I live in the same area - where in Chicago are they moving to? Will they be going to a Chicago Private School?

Re: Another SIL rant
I live on the NW side of Chicago...where exactly are they going and what school? I don't know what religion they are but my DD goes to a Catholic school not far (I would NEVER put her in a Chicago Public School) and it's $300 a month for her but with one extra kid it's only about $340 or so. Let me know...send a PM if you'd like.

Re: Another SIL rant
They will be living near the Logan Square area. Around I-90 and Diversey. From my friends in the city, the area is regentrifying into an up and coming Lincoln Park like area, but still has it's rough spots. The kids will be alone after school until 8-9PM depending on what time she works to.
I just don't see how this is a good move for her financially especially if she is going to try and send the kids to a private school. She could rent a REALLY nice townhome in the current area for the additional cost of private schooling.
Like everything she seams to do, this will probably blow up in her face and she'll be back in the burbs hopefully by Christmas. But, it's another rough spot for the kids. New city, new friends, new school and a whole new set of circumstances that could get them into lots of trouble.

Re: Another SIL rant
I think that if she were to put her options down on paper and make a pros and cons list, she would see that maybe she should stay where she is and pay for nicer living conditions. If they kids are happy in the school and doing well, why move them?
I'm also not a fan of leaving your kids home alone, especially at night. Maybe I'm just naive, but things are not like they used to be when I was growing up. My brothers and I could disappear for hours and they wouldn't think nothing of it. Now, I don't even let my DD (9) walk to school by herself and we live 3 blocks away. Alot can happen in 3 blocks.
I'm so sorry that she is going through this and that it will hurt the kids to most. that everything will work out and that your sister in law will figure out what's best for her and her kids.

Re: Another SIL rant
Michele, is there any way that you and your DH could take them? We have done this for some of our neices when the schools in their area weren't good. Things improved, and they went home after a year (a home in a better school system)
