As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

POR Bus Service - anyone used lately and how was it????
Was wondering if anyone has recently returned from POR and what their view of bus service was. How long are the waits during summer? We usually go to WDW after Sept and this is our first summer trip - hoping the bus service is still good at this time or possibly will rent a car. Thanks!

Re: POR Bus Service - anyone used lately and how was it????
Was at POFQ in April. The buses serve both POR and PORFQ.
The buses from Downtown Disney stop at POR first, then POFQ. The buses to the parks stop at POFQ first then the POR stops (there are four or five of them).
I think I only was on one bus where anyone had stand, and they were reasonably frequent. I think the longest I waited was about 15 Minutes (From downtown) as the bus was leaving as I was about 1/2 block away

Re: POR Bus Service - anyone used lately and how was it????
We were at POFQ in May, as you know they share busses with POR, we may be in the minority but we were overall very disapointed with our bus service. I have heard that it was because the resort was full, but we were not impressed. It's funny because the first day we were their I heard people complaining about it (and having used Disney transportation on all of our stays I said to my DH how I was surprised to hear people complaining as I ususually have found the busses to be very efficient) by the middle of our trip I was one of those people complaining and on a few occasions we did decide to take our own car.

Nicole, Why were you so disappointed? Were the buses too crowded or the waits too long? I'm curious since we are thinking of staying there next year and we've always been so happy with Disney transportation at the other resorts. Thanks!

Re: POR Bus Service - anyone used lately and how was it????
We have always been happy with the service too. But the lines and waits were long. THe busses were always crowded and they continued to pack people on long after most people felt they should have. The trips leaving the resort sometimes went to all of the stops at POR, sometimes none of them and sometimes some of them there was no rhyme or reason to it. This is the second time we have stayed at POFQ so we like the resort, but my husband said he will never stay there again (and I know I went get him to POR)
I know that I have read great things about these resorts so I don't mean to discourage, I am just telling about our most recent visit...maybe during a less crowded time it won't be so bad.

Re: POR Bus Service - anyone used lately and how was it????
We were at POFQ in May. The only real compaint that I had was that they tried to squeeze as many people in as possible. Almost to the point of being uncomfortable. The lines were never real long and we never waited over 20 minutes for a bus. But I could never figure out the patter to POR. It never made sense to me.
Hope this helps.

Re: POR Bus Service - anyone used lately and how was it????
We stayed at POFQ and had rented a car and tried the buses once to MK and after that we took the car it was much faster and the only place where it took a little longer was to MK because we had to park at the TTC but we were always going to a hotel for a meal on those days so it made it easy at night.
I would rent a car if you can get a good deal with these hotels, Disney does a good job but I can drive from POFQ to AK in 10 mins on a disney bus it can take well over 20 mins with all the stops not including wait time if you miss a bus.

Re: POR Bus Service - anyone used lately and how was it????
We stayed at POR in late April and I guess I would describe our experience as "mixed". It was generally okay, but we had a couple of less than wonderful experiences at the end of EMH at Epcot and at the MK. The mornings were fine.
The experience at the MK was the worst I have had and POR had by far the largest queue waiting. It just seemed like the bus dispatcher was very slow to respond. Epcot was better, and at one point a member of our party was waiting for the bus and the relief driver was waiting also, so she "shared" some of her experience with him--and so did some of the other folks nearby. I have to say that THAT night things went very smoothly: there were 4 buses that arrived in short order--two at a time--and the queue just drained away.
Over time we have had very good experience with Disney Transport and if we have made any adjustments, it is sometimes that we drive to other resorts for dinner when we have a car (because we have driven to WDW). Although we don't even do this if everyone is planning to have more than one glass of wine at dinner, which is one of the benefits--let Disney be the designated driver. We also go often enough that we are mostly not in a hurry. But like everyone else, at the end of the day when I am weary, I start to feel my inner, impatient brat come forth!

Re: POR Bus Service - anyone used lately and how was it????
Oh, I hope bus service is okay during Thanksgiving! We're staying at POR then and my DH tends to get heated if he feels that the wait is too long or the bus is too crowded. We are both usually very understanding and don't complain if the wait is reasonable, but a situation last year really upset us both!
Last year we were waiting for a bus to take us from the Poly to DTD for La Nouba. We waited, and I am not making this up, for an hour before a bus finally came. Every bus that came by was going to Epcot. There were people who had been waiting before we got there and they were steamed!! My DH finally went into the resort and called Transportation Services because the staff at the resort said they couldn't do anything. It was awful! We had planned to get to DTD before the show and walk around, but instead we were literally running, me pulling my poor DS(7) behind me, in order to get to the show on time. We got there right at 9:00. My DH was so angry and there were plenty of harsh words spoken on that bus about how customer service is slipping at Disney.

Re: POR Bus Service - anyone used lately and how was it????
We only used the bus once this past April and that was from DD (The boat shuttle was not running). It seemed to take forever. We waited about 25 minutes for the bus (we got there just as the bus pulled away), and then had to go to each stop at DD, change drivers, go to Typhoon Lagoon, POFQ, and then we were the last stop at POR. I think it took about 11/2 hours total. I was so thankful we had rented a car, and that was the only time we used the buses... but then again, I am not a bus person at all. I don't like to be on someone elses schedule.
