Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Hershey Park

We are planning on taking a trip out to Lancaster, PA and Hershey Park June 14-17. Our plans are to drive to Lancaster on the afternoon of the 14th. Spend the 15th at the Strasburg Railroad and spend the 16th at Hershey Park. The 17th we'll go to the Hershey Zoo & Chocolate World before heading home.

I am looking for some advice on Hershey Park. What not to miss...rides, restaurants, shows etc.

We are a family of 3. Me, my husband and 3 year old DD who is not afraid of characters or rides.

I have not been to Hershey since I was a kid so my memory of it is quite vague.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Hershey Park

We haven't been to Hershey in quite a while, but we have done Strasburg. I beleive "Day Out with Thomas" will be going on while you are there. We have done that lots of times. I would advise getting your tickets ahead of time if a particular time is better for your DD. They aren't kidding when they say it is very popular and crowded. For 3 year olds, there is also Dutch Wonderland which is a sister park to Hershey. You used to be able to get combo tickets for both. Our DS loved Dutch Wonderland at 3.
Hopefully, someone else can give you some insight on Hershey. I know Joan W. was just there a couple weeks ago with her family.

Re: Hershey Park

And again last Friday with the school band!

I used the Hershey Park website as a good reference, especially with what is happening each day. Weather has been so bad lately that water rides aren't even on. Maybe it will be warmer when you go. The water area has splash areas for little kids too.

My kids are older now and love coasters. There are some cute small kid rides though. We love getting photos with the Hershey Kiss and other characters.

The only thing I could not find was discount tickets. Here in the Baltimore/DC area, no one was advertising any, not even AAA.

Re: Hershey Park

We are in Hershey almost every year. Alas my kids are only just big enough now to enjoy the park itself. But it's tradition for us to do HersheyWorld and the show there and the zoo which is surprisingly nice escpecially if you can go without the crowds. The Hershey Lodge just up the way from the parks has a great breakfast buffet and is fun to roam around as is the Hershey Hotel, the grounds up there are beautiful!

I'm not sure if there are any food factories you could tour very close....that would be fun too and inexpensive.

At any rate, have a great time.

Re: Hershey Park

Do the really BIG 3-D show at Chocolate World. Oh MY god it's funny. The Zoo is kinda small so don't plan on alot time there. We don't usually do the park itself so no help there sorry. There are discount tuckets around here at the Sunoco and Dairy Queen. If you need some let me know.

Re: Hershey Park

Thanks for the offer Tina! AAA here in NJ is offering discounted tickets that I can purchase online or at their store so I'll probably get them at the store just before we leave....in case this bad weather never lets up.

Re: Hershey Park

I agree with the 3D show!
We go with our DD age 16 and she takes a friend. DH and I almost have the day to ourselves!
We did the tram/bus ride around Hershey town last year, it was fun and and nice to rest our feet a little. If your little one takes a nap you could maybe do it around nap-time. You have to buy your tickets or (COINS) to ride, at the right side of the 3D counter. You can pick your time to ride, and it usually sells out so go early.
Have a sweet time.............oh, and the ice-cream sundaes are to die for!!!

Re: Hershey Park

I LOVe Hershey Park! We're been there 4 times, with our last time being last August/September. The park has really grown over the last few years. At the Hershey Chocolate World right next to the amusement park be sure to go on the free factory tour ride and see the Really Big 3D Show... it's too cute! There are tons of rides for kids, as well as several awesome rollercoasters. The zoo is very, very small so you'll probably only spend an hour there. It's still nice, though.

I probably love Lancaster even more than I love Hershey. I love Hershey Park but the surrounding area isn't my favorite. Lancaster is absolutely GORGEOUS, and I think it's so amazing how the Amish live Be sure to check out Kitchen Kettle Village and eat at Cactus Willies! We went to the Stausburn Railroad twice and loved it, although we haven't been back since my brother and I were young (I think I was 7 and he was 5 and a half). It's a really nice ride and the area you go through is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Have a great time!
