As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Dining Dilema-West Coast Cruise
I need some guidance, please.
I am trying to pick the best night for Palo reservations. I have reservations currently for Palo on the 3rd night of our West Coast cruise, but after reading my passporter last night, I discovered that we will mostly have Animator's Palate as our rotation (this is based on having an 8 and 10 year old) on the 3rd night. I have also learned that the "show" at Animator's is only on the 1st night of your rotation.
Here is the dilema. Do I reschedule my Palo reservations for our second night (which is Father's day-would rather be with the whole family) or miss the Animator's "show"? The first night for Palo doesn't seem like the best option, either, because we will have so much to talk about at the table.
DH says we can't see everything-stop worrying about all the details. I say I want to maximize our vacation and try to do the things that sound really great.
This is all based on a rotation of Parrot Cay, Lumiere's and then Animator's per the passporter guide.
Any advice is welcome.

Personally, I made our reservation on the night I think we'll have Animator's Palate. This was the least of my favorites.

Personally I would do it on a Parrot Cay night as that is my least favorite restaurant. But if you don't want to miss anything, consider the "double dip"! If you have early dinner seating, make a late Palo reservation and just have appetizers or something light at dinner, then have the rest of your meal at Palo. Or vice versa, Palo early for dinner and late seating in your regularly scheduled restaurant for dessert!  |

Please remember that we don't "predict" your rotation, we only state what's likely based on the makeup of your party.
Another approach would be to plan Palo for the 4th night (or later). That way you'll experience all the dining rooms once and catch the Animator's show, regardless of what rotation you actually receive. I think every cruiser should experience Animator's once, but it's not nearly so important to catch each of the "theme" dinners that occur later in the cruise.

Next question, when is the Pirates of the Carribean night on the West Coast cruise? 
I just changed my Palo reservation from the 3rd night to the fourth. Then I realized the pirate theme dinner would be something we would enjoy. The Passporter states it is the 3rd or 4th night on the Carribbean cruises. So we will most likely be missing something cool no matter which night we eat at Palo. I am making my Palo reservation at 8:30, our late seating time, so we don't miss the show at 6.
We leave in 3 weeks and I am trying to get all this lined up to help maximize our vacation!!  |

We'll know better about the Pirates night by next weekend. The first 7-night West Coast itinerary departs today, and I'm sure we'll hear all about it from the folks who are sailing. That should give you enough time to adjust your Palo plans.
And relax! While we all try to maximize our vacations, if we try too hard we just end up exhausted and disappointed. Your cruise will be wonderful, regardless of where you dine on a particular evening. You can't do everything, so enjoy what you can do to the fullest, and you'll have a great vacation.

Wow! It is comforting to read that someone else is having the same dilemma that I am! I made our Palo ressies the day that we could do it online, figuring that it was better to *have* something than wait and see. But I have been reading about the Pirates event, etc. and wondering if I chose the right night...
For those of us who have *never* gone on DCL, it's not so easy to 'give up' an evening at one place for another because we don't know whether we're missing something great! If you've 'been there, done that'...you have an idea how to weigh these things.
As Dave suggests, though, we West Coast cruisers will have a much better idea of how things will schedule out as soon as the first Mexico cruise gets back!! I can see myself having to find the time to hang out on the boards a lot in about 7 days...

I appreciate the input.
Dave, my husband says the same thing, "we can't see it all". I agree completely. I am, by nature a planner, so here I am making reservations, reading the newest Passporter, checking the boards, then worrying that I have missed something! 
I think it is time for a martini!!
I have just less than 3 weeks to get it all together. I guess I can't help myself so I keep planning.
Once I find out when the Pirates night is, I may be switching my Palo reservations yet again.
I can't wait for this vacation!!!!
On top of all this planning and rearranging, my in-laws are canceling their cruise (same week as us) due to illness. Losing out on half their $$. They did not get travel insurance!!

I am so with you!
Our cruise leaves this Saturday - four days away!!!
Last night I got everyone together and made them check all my details! Did I get the flights on the right days, was Palo alright for my Dad's birthday dinner on Wednesday, was Disney transportation ok, or would a town car be better...I'm a wreck, but the rest of my family is really looking forward to it.
Here's how I worked out the dining based on our "anticipated rotation" of: Animator's, Parrot Cay, Lumieres.
Sat: Animator's
Sun: Character Breakfast?, Tea at Palo, Parrot Cay
Mon: Brunch at Palo, Lumieres
Tue: Animator's
Wed: Palo (Dad's Bday) Cabin 1 reserved
Thu: Lumieres
Fri: Palo (Last night) Cabin 2 reserved
That way we get to see each of the three restaurants, and don't repeat Parrot Cay. If you have 2 cabins, each can reserve Palo, and add the whole party to it's reservation!

Please send best wishes our way (the last time we planned a Disney trip with my parents, my Mom broke both ankles the morning we were going to fly out!) for a safe trip!

Thanks for the reply. Looks like you have considered everything and are ready to roll. Have you factored in Pirates of the Caribbean? Still waiting to find out which night it is, 4th or 5th. You made me realize that I need to consider the character breakfast!! Looks like brunch at Palo may be moved. Good Lord, does this ever end?
I can't wait to hear about your trip!!
Sounds like parking at San Pedro will be pricey-$11 per day. Ouch.
Did you book any excursions? So far I have a beach day at PV.
I have my clothes laid out, going over each outfit.....will it be enougth, are the shoes just right, do I need a new purse.........
planning seems to never end........

It appears, from reading the reports from the Magic, that the Pirate Night will be the evening that we are in Puerta Vallarta. So looks like the best night for Palo would be night 5 or 6? Until I find another twist, I'll go with that!

Prayerfully, it'll be Tuesday, and we won't have to miss it when we go to Palo on Wednesday!

Have a great trip! Deb Wills is posting live from the West Coast cruise on allearsnet, and it sounds like the Pirates night was awesome! I think that with the fireworks, it will always be on the Puerta Vallarta day so your Wednesday night Palo ressie looks just fine. Keep the ship in "ship shape" for me and Rene'!
