Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Segway Tour

Has anyone done this? Is it fun? lame? worth it/not worth it?

It sounds fun, but I'd really like to hear from someone that's done it.

Thanks!!

Re: Segway Tour

IMHO....IT IS AWESOME!

My DW, FIL, and I did it during our trip in December and it was really cool. You spend the first hour learning how to control the Segway, then the second hour is spent going around the World Showcase traversing different areas. It really brought a new appreciation to the details they put into the parks and we even found a few areas that we never even knew about (water garden in Japan, I don't know how we missed it before). One other thing that some would consider an advantage is that on our tour and from people who had done it prior to us they give an exclusive pin for the tour.

I would definitely do the tour again with out question.

Re: Segway Tour

We did this in December and DH, whose Christmas present it was, absolutely loved it. I was a little unsure about it, as it took me quite a while to master the Segway and after I crashed it during practise, I lost all confidence with it.

However, I would try it again - and I know that DH would recommend this to anyone. His only criticism was that this tour was too short.

Re: Segway Tour

Can you tell me if this tour is done during park hours, or is it before the park opens to everyone else? How do you keep from running over people?

Re: Segway Tour

We loved it and I especially would do it again. It took me quite a while to master the Segway but once I had I absolutely loved it and was very disappointed when the tour was over.

The tour consisted of training in a room for about 45 minutes and then we made our way to World Showcase which was not open yet. On the way back to the training room it had opened and we had to ride in single file and avoid park guests. It was so much fun, I would highly recommend this tour.

Re: Segway Tour

I took the tour last November with my DH, DD (20) and DS (18). I had to twist a few arms, because no one else was excited to go, but after being on the tour it was voted the highlight of our trip.

My son got on it and was immediately "one with his machine" (oh, to be 18 again). I took the longest to get comfortable, but the hour training was plenty of time. There was one woman who was still uncomfortable when we left the training room, but they put her at the back of the pack with a CM by her side until she was feeling confidant. By the end of the trip she had zoomed to the front of the line.

The training is inside in FW, but then you go out into WS before it is open. They take you in and out of several of the pavilions stopping to give you information on some of the countries. There were many opportunites to test your skill at handling and maneuvering the Segway. They took you into buildings, on small narrow pathways, up hills and ramps and on open ground. The Segways have governors on them that limit your speed, but they were plenty fast for my taste.

When we went they were offering 2 tours a day and we took the later one, so by the end of the tour WS was open, but the crowds weren't bad and we had no problem getting around.

My advice is to do it! It was a WONDERFUL experience.

Have a great time!

Lesley

Re: Segway Tour

With all these rave reviews, I'm going to try to book one of these tours as a birthday surprise for my son for August. The only hassle will be klutzy old me who will probably find some way to crash the Segway.

Re: Segway Tour

DH and I loved the Segway tour! We did it last May and, even though we were unable to do the WS part of the tour due to rain, we still had a blast learning how to use the Segway and cruising around a secluded part of Innoventions. I was "scolded" for running over one-too-many cones on one of the obstacle courses that was set up for us, but quickly got the hang of it after a few more rounds!

Definitely would recommend it and the pin was really too!

P.S...the WS portion of tour is typically done before the WS opens so you don't have to worry about running into too many guests!

Re: Segway Tour

Bob and I took this tour a few weeks ago and I say--DO IT!

It exceeded even our admittedly high expectations. I'll have more to say in the TR (assuming my company will leave me at home so I can get it started) but it was just a blast.

It was really fun riding through FW to get back to World Showcase. As we passed one family, a woman shouted out, "Having fun, having fun... getting a bit jealous ovah heah!"

I wish we had video of us weaving in and out of the columns in Italy! And for some reason zooming around the souk in Morocco I found very amusing.

Anyway, if I could figure out where to ride one here at home I would buy one!

A footnote: Disney has just introduced a 'short' version of the 'tour' which I believe is mostly just the classroom part (the training), which is somewhat later in the day. I think it is called something like, "Simply Segway". It was mentioned in the AllEars newsletter, I believe.

I want to do it again! It was worth every penny (even if we hadn't gotten an AP discount)!

Apparently almost every tour group asks if there could be a follow-on tour (now that we are skilled riders). It sounds like the lawyers are involved, though, because one of the liability questions is how much time can go by before people have to be trained again.

Re: Segway Tour

I just read something about this on allearsnet.com. I believe they have a shortened version, only an hour long, and it is only inside - I think it's $45.

A shortened version seems kind of useless, doesn't it?
