As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

HI! I was wondering if anyone would offer some advice as to helping us plan our next 7-day WDW trip. It will be me, my husband, my four-year-old, and an infant (I will deliver in September 2005), as well as both my parents, my sister and brother-in-law, and their 3 kids. We are working around a couple of issues, such as the fact that I will be having a c-section, and I want to be able to enjoy the rides, along with the fact that we don't want the kids to miss too much school, as well as when the "best" time to go is (considering prices and crowds). We're debating between three dates: January 2, 2006; Feb. 15, 2006; or May 27, 2006 (the day after the last day of school). WOW! Why does this have to be so hard??
If anyone could offer some advice it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks!!
I've been there in Late January and Early Feb., both times the weather was nice but not really swimming weather. (some days were a bit cool) It was Value season, the lowest price for rooms.
I think that 2/15 would be a more crowded time, the room rates are Peak.
Jan. 2nd (which I think is one of the slowest times) is Value season.
May 27th will be very warm, it's regular season for the rooms.
If you are more concerned with the kids not missing school, then I would choose May. You know that you will be well on your way from recovering from your C-section and your new baby will probably have a nice schedule by then. I'm not really sure about the crowd level at that time.
Personally, I would choose Jan. 2nd. Low Crowds, cool weather. But, your kids would be missing school.
I hope I've been some help. Enjoy the planning, I find it just as much fun as the trip itself. These boards and the people on them are wonderful!
I would choose January too, low crowds, the weather is nice (I was there with DH the last weekend in January this year and it was wonderful). But I never worry about taking the kids out of school to go to Disney World I have done it every time we have gone and the kids have never had a problem. It is a much nicer trip IMO to go when the crowds are at a minimum. The only drawback would be that your baby will only be 4 months old but I have known people who have taken infants that young and it was not a problem. Another reason to go in January is that the weather then would probably be better for the gbaby than the heat of May and the crowds of the week you are thinking about in February may make it tough on the baby too. Good luck with whatever you decide.
We usually try to do a trip in late January or early February due to all of the good reasons listed above. We have a Disney cruise scheduled in late January and plan to spend several days afterwards at Disney. We will have an infant with us also (delivery date in October)!
We considered May 27 to start a four-day trip this year. I'd heard that Florida kids don't get out of school until May 30, so until then, crowds aren't that bad. But once they are out, crowds increase dramatically. Sometimes, the seasons don't dictate the crowd level. We went in value season Thanksgiving week, and it was pretty crowded. I think if you left right when school was out (maybe they could even miss the last day?) Then you'll be ok in the May week. Something to consider: If you go in January, you'll be able to take advantage of the Christmas decorations and maybe even attend Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. But I totally understand about school. We are taking ours out for two days for a four-day trip in September. But my oldest is in Kindergarten, and this is the last year tht I'll prob. be willing to pull her out of school for Disney. When we go again, it will probably be that day right after school ends or even in June. Good luck!
I would try to go in January - it may be kind of chilly but not freezing. You may still be able to swim! January is one of the lowest attendanceperiods so you'd be able to enjoy a lot of the parks without having to deal with crowds. Good luck deciding, and congratulations on the baby!
I would definitely choose the first part of January. We were there over MLK holiday last year....crowds were not bad at all. The weather was cool but not bad. We definitely enjoyed the whole experience.
Another vote for January, especially early. You may see a few of the holiday decorations, but you would not get to see MVMCP as it ends about a week before Christmas. The weather is often very comfortable, but it can get quite cold, so be aware of that.
I've been in January twice - once over MLK - great weather, low crowds, value season, the second time we went right after New Years 2002 - that year because of where New Years fell in the week, the kids had extra days off school in January. But it was very cold that year - we froze, it was still crowded at the beginning (although I'm sure not as bad as the week before - 2006 shouldn't have this problem as New Years is on Sunday), it was value season. The next trip we took in March - spring break, we wanted to increase the odds for good weather. But it was more expensive and we did run into some crowds, particularly toward the end of the trip. While I don't want to go in the summer due the humidity, I suspect that you can have a great trip anytime if you plan well.
WOW. See that's why I'm torn. I don't want the kids to miss out on swimming and such...I want them to be "warm" enough to enjoy themselves, yet...the prices are so much better!....but I guess I'd pay a little more for them to have a good time. Boy, my head is spinning! LOL I guess that's why I'm torn. Ya'll are really giving me some good tips and ideas!!!
Thanks again!
