Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Ohana - What gives?!?

We've eaten at Ohana several times before for both character breakfasts and dinner and have always been very pleased.

Our visit last week though could ruin that run! And unfortuantely, it was the first time my parents had been so let's just say they weren't impressed.

First, our seating was not great. We were over on the right-hand side, which is just the luck of the draw. However, including little ones in the fun is rough from there. But since we weren't willing to wait another 1/2 hour for a different table, that was sort of our choice.

What really got me was the food and service. I've never had a bad meal there, but here you have it. The steak was dry as a bone. The skewers took so long to arrive at the table they were cold. The waiter, whose name I didn't catch because he was never around, could not be bothered with us. But I noticed that the table next to ours that was running up a nice bar tab received some attention. It was so bad, that my glass was only filled twice during the course of our entire meal. That means I spent most of the meal choking down dinner!

And the capper, went to the ladies room after dinner and it was GROSS. I simply don't expect dirty, sloppy lounges at the Polynesian.

I spoke with the manager, Shandon, about the disappointing experience. He assured me he would look into things and give me a call the next day to chat. He never did. Another disappointment.

Anyone else ever had a bad experience at Ohana? Never thought I'd see the day.

Re: Ohana - What gives?!?

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience at 'Ohana, especially as it was your parents' first time there. I'm also sorry to hear that the manager never called you. Perhaps you should put tell Disney in writing about what happened?

I'm definitely going to write to them. Glad to see you think I should too. I was pretty stunned by the whole evening!

Hmmm - that's a good idea. I'll bet the receipt is floating around somewhere.

Re: Ohana - What gives?!?

We were there last week also. What night were you there? Our food was excellent. Our server, Rosa, was great. She cheered up my dd (who was upset over not getting what she wanted at the gift shop), made sure we got to try all the meats and was very attentive. Aside from being extremely crowded (it was pouring rain so everyone staying at the Poly wanted to eat there) we had a good experience. Sorry to hear about yours. I would definately voice your concerns to Disney management.

Re: Ohana - What gives?!?

We've been twice and our second experience was by far better. We had very slow service the first time (sounds very similar to your experience) and we were seated not too far behind the bar and the hostess stand. We didn't even know that activities were going on because we were so far removed.

I would definitely write a letter because this is too good of a place to let go. We had great service, location and food the second time!

Good Luck!

Re: Ohana - What gives?!?

Sounds like we may have had the same server. The guys who brought the meat around were great though and the food was to die for. We also had a window seat and a view of Wishes so we were able to overlook our not too Disney server.

Sorry things went so badly for you. And for the manager not to call you back is just not right. Please do send a letter to Disney. I think they want to know when their employees drop the magical ball.

Re: Ohana - What gives?!?

We have also eaten at 'Ohana twice and absolutely loved it the first time but were a little disappointed the second time. Believe it or not we were seated at the same exact table back in Dec. that we sat at on our first trip the year before! We were right against the window at a little 2 person table with a view of the dock We were surrounded by large parties and the characters couldn't fit through to get to our table. It kind of made me sad b/c it was our last day there (just like our first trip) and I wanted it to be as special as it had been before... We did have a great waitress though who helped us get some photos with the characters. This year we have decided to try Chef Mickey's instead.

Re: Ohana - What gives?!?

I too hope things will be okay when we are there in April. We are planning to eat there for the first time and, as you might expect, have high expectations. We have even discussed going back a second time and taking our friends.

Re: Ohana - What gives?!?

We had a similar experience on our trip last November. And our table was sticky and covered with the previous party's food. Yuck! I had to ask twice for them to wipe it off, and then they left the rag for me to do it. We were expecting a really great meal, and the meat was really dry. We were never given the opportunity for seconds of anything, and we did like the bread and the pineapple at the end. We never even got refills on our sodas. It was very disappointing We will probably not go back there. In fact we canceled several of our PSs after that(at other places) and did counter service. I don't know if I'll be able to convince DH to try another expensive meal like that!

Re: Ohana - What gives?!?

I'm sad to hear about people's bad experienes at Ohana. This is one of our favorite places and we have eaten there during our past 4 or 5 trips. We have never had a bed experience there. Our last visit was Nov. 04 - our meal and experience couldn't have been better. Great servers, great food, great drink! We're going back in April, so hopefully our streak will continue!
