As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
I'm considering doing a character dinner in the Magic Kingdom. Am torn between Liberty Tree Tavern and the Crystal Palace. Any thoughts? Does anybody have another character dinner in a park, not a resort, that they love? If so, tell all.

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
Do you want Mickey or Pooh & Friends??
We're choosing Crystal Palace for lunch because both kids love all the Pooh characters (and will see Mickey at Chef Mickey's) plus they have macaroni and cheese. Wherever we eat, they have to have mac and cheese for Benji - that's ALL he eats ( well, okay, there's spaghetti, breadsticks, sometimes/rarely pizza - my kid is Italian) so we have to plan the PS's around him.
Last year I didn't, and he didn't eat anything at PSB (drank orange juice - the two cups that the waiter brought him) and only took one bite out of a cinnamon roll at CRT.
According to my notes, Crystal Palace serves a buffet and, I think, Liberty Tree Tavern serves family style so you need to decide if that factors in or not.

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
Hmmm. Thanks for the thoughts. The buffet style would prob. work better for us, and I'm leaning toward Crystal Palace b/c I figure my kids (5 and 2/12) won't be as much into Pool and Pals for much longer. I just didn't know if Liberty Tree is just SO much fun and delicious that I shouldn't count it out.

Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
Liberty Tree Tavern is sponsored by Swanson, known for their frozen foods and served family style.
Crystal Palace is all fresh food and buffet style. It's also one of the best character meals for lunch or dinner on the property we've found. There are plenty of offerings for vegetarian and carnivore alike.

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
Having tried both - I would say to go with the Crystal Palace. The food is way better and I found the characters to be more attentive there. Liberty Tree was like a Thanksgiving dinner - it was alright but not fabulous.
Another character meal over in Epcot is the Graden Grill - it is with Farmer Mickey, Chip and Dale and Pluto. We always love this one. It is served family style and the characters spend quality time with you. If you won't be in the area at lunchtime, they also have an ice cream in the afternoons!!

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace hands down. Pooh is my daughter's favorite, and the food is much better. Everyone there is so friendly, and the characters spend a lot of time with you.

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
I wasn't too impressed with Liberty Tree Tavern. I think it was my server and our table, but I probably won't go back.
I'm not the biggest Pooh fan, but I'd pick Crystal Palace! I hear the food is great!
Have fun!!!!

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
I know that I am in the minority here but my husband and I loved Liberty Tree Tavern. I believe that it was sponsored by Stouffer's not Swansons (a big difference in my book.)The food was great but as others pointed out, so was the food at Garden Grill. I guess I'm just not a big buffet fan, but that's just me!

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
In our last four trips we have done LTT and CP for dinner. Our first two trips as a family we did LTT and the last two we have done CP. We love the food at CP and it has become a must do on our last night at Disney for every future trip. (it is very hard to wait the entire week to eat there!)I love their salad bar!
On a side note we have also had lunch at LTT the last two trips and love their food.(no characters at lunch) Always a good choice for a sit down lunch!

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
We've done both and far prefer the Crystal Palace. There was nothing wrong with the Liberty Tree Tavern, but we enjoy the buffet at the CP far more and always seem to have more fun with the characters there. It also seems to be a favourite in the character meal poll in this forum, judging by the results so far.

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
We did both last year. We are big Chef Mickey's people but everyone loved LTT so much that we are doing it instead of Chef Mick's. The food was great, especially the flank steak and the kids loved the Stouffer's mac & cheese! We had great character interaction (&that was during MNSSHP!). At CP, the food was good but we only saw the characters once. The restaurant is really big & they go from one end to the other. We were in the room on the right all the way by the windows. We were finished eating and hung around waiting for Eeyore. We've never had to do that at any other character meal and that was lunch time. We would do it again but not on our next trip. Right now we only have one chr. meal planned for our May weekend and it is LTT.

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
CP is my favorite resturant in all of DW. We love breakfast and dinner here. The buffet is always loaded with choices. The food has always been great. The other reason we love CP is that all my kids love the characters (they are teenagers--you never get to old for Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet).

I agree. We ate there during MNSSHP and we really enjoyed it. They also serve Mac & Cheese.

Re: Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
Both of these character meals are excellent so it could come down to a case of which characters you prefer (Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger and Piglet at CP or Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Chip, Dale, and Pluto at LTT) and whether you prefer to eat from a buffet or have the food served to you at your table family-style. At CP, I like lunch there the best of all three meals. Another option but you would have to go for lunch instead of dinner is Cinderella's Royal Table. Apparently they are now offering a character lunch there but they have changed the roster of characters - it's now Cinderella, Prince Charming, the Fairy Godmother, Suzy and Perla. This might be a nice alternative for you simply for the chance to eat inside the castle which is always a fun experience.

Thanks so much. Sounds like Crystal Palace is the winner, and now I'm intriegued by the Garden Grill. Pixie dust for all.
