~I have a confession! ~!!!! I'm really embarassed about... - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
Okay, so here's the deal...My fiance and I are going on our honeymoon in August to Disney World and my confession is that I'm really kind of scared of some of the rides and stuff. When we were there and he proposed to me, I was really nervous about going on the rides and he didn't get me on the Tower of Terror. I did that one when I was there about 4 years ago and I wouldn't go on it again. But I promised him I would not be a chicken and go on everything. Anyone heard about anybody falling off the rides somehow or something malfunctioning? Do I have a reason to worry? Can someone get me to relax so that I don't go on my honeymoon worried about everything before I ride on it? I just want to enjoy my honeymoon and quit worrying about everything. I feel so wierd about it and trust me, my fiance doesn't know how TOTALLY freaked I am about some of the rides and restraints and things. I think he would laugh at me if told him I was afraid of falling out or off of a ride. I'm really embarassed about this and could use any advice here. REALLY! Thanks everyone for listening and any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I luv you guys and this website!!
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
I can understand your hesitations. I used to be petrified of roller coasters etc. Finally, I was going to be pink slipped due to cutbacks and so when some of my colleagues led a school trip to Cedar Point, I volunteered to chaperone. Wanting to enjoy my last few days with my colleagues, I vowed to force myself on the coasters w/ them. We did the scariest one first and I made a point of yelling the whole way through. Once I made the hardest one, all the others were a piece of cake (assuming I yelled for most of the ride). Now, I really enjoy the rides (and I don't even yell).
As for the rides being safe, the accidents you hear about are instances of people going on rides that shouldn't, trying to beat the guidelines etc. or rides being old/decrepid. Also, a cynic would argue that the rides are extremely safe b/c it's not cost effective for Disney to have them not be safe.
If none of that helps, just remember that you're getting married and going to WDW...it doesn't get much better than that. Enjoy all the other things that Disney has to offer and let your hubby do the rides if he wants. Good luck and congrats on the impending marriage.
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
First of all...don't be embarrassed. I won't go on some rides because I'm claustrophobic. When I explain my reasons to people they don't get it.
It's very rare that people get injured at WDW. I think you can rest easy on that one.
How about you tell your fiancee how freaked you are, and make some ride compromises? Say he wants you to try Splash and Tower of Terror, but you know TOT won't be a good one for you, agree to try Splash so you're still doing something??
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
Don't be embarrassed!! You can also wait in the ride queue, and when you get to the front, if you absolutley don't think you can handle it, you can exit! Most of the rides have an "escape route" lol. (aka, the chicken exit!) The ride may appear tamer when you get closer and you may want to try it. Sometimes the anticipation is worse then the ride.
Hang in there....your fiance will probably not want to make you miserable on your honeymoon!
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
I agree with the above poster that said compromise with your fiancee but also at least go through the cue with him maybe once you get to the front you will see how the people exit are doing and might change your feelings. If you absolutely can not ride just ask the cast member and they can direct you to the exit. Even a failed attempt is an attempt.
As for as TOT and falling out of rides I don't think that would be an issue as they now have seatbelts and a lap bar if I remember right from previous postings.
I hope that helps and Congrats on the upcoming wedding. Just enjoy the trip and try not to worry about it too much!
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
I too "Freak out" about some rides, And my DH never makes me feel bad about it.
Trust your DH "to be" enough to tell him the truth..
You will find he will totally understand, It's not that big a deal to keep secret....
It's your Honeymoon, Enjoy yourselfs, You are going to be together a long long long time, Start out on the right foot, Don't be embarassed about scary rides ..
CONGRATS TOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
I think you've already had some great words of advice and encouragement. I remember when I was really worried about going on Splash Mountain for the first time and I posted here about it - and the one thing which stuck in my head was that "if you don't like it, you never have to do it again in your life, but at least you've tried it and it's only a few minutes out of your life". That really helped me and since then, it's encouraged me to go on Mission : Space, which I never thought I'd do.
I think that's a really good way to look at it - and as others have said, if you really don't want to go on a ride, you can always take the chicken exit. There's no shame in that at all.
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
I go on all the thrill rides, I am a bit scared of them but that is what makes them fun for me (I hope this doesn't sound to wierd). For example everytime before I go on TOT I am really nervous but after I've done it I love it . I think I like the sense of achievement that I managed to do it and also the adrenalin rush.
Seriously though, queue up for the rides with your DH but if you really really don't want to do it when you get to the front of the queue ask the CM for the exit, there is no point making yourself miserable. I'm sure your hubby will understand.
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
I agree with many of the posters here. There is no shame in being scared to ride some of the rides. I just worked up the nerve in 2003 to finally try Splash Mountain. I'm 36 years old. When we went to WDW a few years ago my 4 year old went on it 7 times!!! Everyone is different when it comes to thrill rides. If you are truly scared of going on a certain ride, my opinion would be don't force yourself to go on it. If you're too scared/freaked out chances are you're not going to be able to relax enough to enjoy the ride and it's not going to be a good experience.
Tell your soon-to-be DH about your fears. I'm sure he'll understand and wouldn't want you to feel scared or worried on your honeymoon.
Congrats on your upcoming wedding and just relax, ride what you want to ride, and have a GREAT time!!
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
Trust me hon, you have now met the most paranoid person in the world This chick here cried on the Tower of Terror the first time I rode it (well just the beginning part) but then I ended up riding it 3 times that day and loved it!! I have the same types of fears you do and I think about them everytime I get on a ride. But I have noticed I do much better when I am inside. Space Mountain and RnRC are totally easy for me. I don't even think about it. Outside roller coasters I have to close my eyes until we we're at the top and usually I make the person next to me talk to me. But once we get going I'm fine. I'm a big adrenaline junkie, I just have to get a swift kick in the pants sometimes You're going to be a-okay I promise.
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I must admit, I was quite the thrill seeker when I was younger, but since I have grown more mature (certainly not older ) I have become more nervous about getting on thrill rides I haven't been on before. I'll tell you my secret: Xanax! That makes everything fine! That reminds me, I need to get my usual 3 pill prescription filled: one for the flight over, one for Mission Space, and one for the flight home!
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
I haven't read all of the previous posts and some of this may be redundant, but here goes:
1. It would not behoove the Disney Corporation to operate unsafe rides so you can go in with an assumption that your riding on a safe contraption. The negative publicity generated by ride incidents as well as the lawsuits...well, you get the idea. There is a very strong incentive on the part of Disney to make sure you're safe.
2. I believe the vast majority of incidents on rides (and I furthermore believe they are very few and far between) are caused by the riders themselves who wiggle out of their restraints, or don't wear the restraint properly, or at all.
3. Here's the bad part..operator error. I believe this is also a rarity, but humans do make mistakes. I have NEVER experienced a problem on a ride, EVER. So, I have very high confidence in the ability of Disney ride operators to properly do their jobs.
That's the whole point of going to an amusement park; to be able to let go and experience things you couldn't otherwise do. To get thrills you can't get anywhere else. Part of the fun of a thrill ride is that scary feeling of being out of control/not in control of your own destiny. It's like Tom Cruise says in Risky Business..."Sometimes ya just gotta say..."

Great advice. I'd promise that you'll try and that you'll accompany him all the way to the "boarding area"... if you feel safe, you'll go on. If not, you'll wait to greet him with hugs and kisses after he's done.
He'll understand.
Also, my DH is in the ride biz - Disney's track record is outstanding. For the number of rides, number of ride cycles per hour and the number of people they have riding each time, the percentage of even small mishaps is tiny. The major incidents are very, very rare. I'm sure someone has statistics, but you're more likely to get hurt driving to the grocery store than you are riding one of these rides.
Now... you're not likely to pee your pants going to the Higgly Piggly.... but that's another story!
Re: ~I have a confession! ~!!!! I\'m really embarassed about...
I HATE roller coasters and such, but I was determined to do Splash Mountain in December. My DH would not do it and so I did it ALL BY MYSELF. Not sure if I'll do it again, but I did enjoy it and was not concerned about safety, just about "loosing my lunch"! LOL -- Barb
