As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I Think He Caught It
I've been awfully careful about not overdoing our WDW vacations, which is reason #1 that we're planning a European/DLP vacation over a year from now. But tonight at dinner, GUESS WHO brought up taking a long weekend at an AKL Savannah view by the end of the year!
I don't think it'll happen since I have no job and unemployment doesn't exactly subsidize proper WDW vacations, but I was just wondering how many folks here have successful conversion stories.

Re: I Think He Caught It
ME!!!!!!!!!! Before John and I took my children and his daughter/grandson down before my surgery in July he said he could tolerate Disney but liked Six Flags/Universal style parks better because he is a rollercoaster junkie. By our second day there he had upgraded his park hopper pass to an annual pass and had already started talking about bringing me down for a trip for my birthday last fall. I have completely transformed him... it was his idea to do our honeymoon at Disney... he was the one that snuck off during our January trip and bought a Mickey and Minnie cake topper and toasting glasses that match and had our names put on them. Now he is using "Goofy" as a trivia name at a local sports grill we go to and buying Disney clothing... LOL
Dontcha' just love changing these men

Re: I Think He Caught It
ME TOO!!!! In fact I based a whole trip report on it called, "The Making of A Disney World Fan". My husband really only went with me in Dec/03 to humor me. Little did he expect to fall so madly in love with the place that he actually ended up suggesting we go to to a DVC presentation and now we're DVC members.

Re: I Think He Caught It
I think my DH thought that Disney would be a one time special trip, with the possibility of coming back every few years....but now he's just as excited as me to plan that next trip as soon as we get home from the last one! And he's the one who mentioned the chance of taking a short impromptu trip sometime this spring...but I'm like Rachel...with no job at the moment it's a little hard to plan 2 trips right now. Times like this I actually miss teaching those little buggers!

Re: I Think He Caught It
Hopefully you will get a job soon Rachel and go to AKL .
Allan really likes WDW but unfortunately I think our trip in April is going to be the last for a while. He wants to visit other places, I like visiting other places too but I wish we had enough money to have a trip to WDW every year and a trip somewhere else too, that would be perfect.

Re: I Think He Caught It
My husband was the same way. He tolerated the idea of a Disney honeymoon we went in 2000. Funny thing is, the next year he planned the 1st anniversary trip the next year. This trip he surprised me with as a Xmas gift. He keeps saying it is just for me, but I catch his little grins and excitement whenever we talk about it.

Re: I Think He Caught It
After my dd & went in 2002 we started planning a trip in Oct 2004 and her father stated he wanted to go. I couldn't at all picture him liking Disney all that much and he didn't want to watch the planning video, read any books or talk about the trip. DD's dad has never really been into long trips and usually only does long weekends with us. I planned a 7 day trip which turned into an 8 day trip once Disney put out a 7 nights for the price of 5 offer. Half way thru our trip I caught dad saying "the next time we come I want to . . ." and knew I would get more trips out of him. Maybe not every year but hopefully every other year.

That's my DH, too. In fact, to get me out of bed this morning he looked up his schedule, saw that he'd be in Florida mid-March and suggested that we go down a few days early! I $till have worrie$ but said "too bad we didn't get those annual passes!" and he said "you're the one who needs one. The one who needed to get them for US!"
But after I finish this post, it's off to Orbitz to check out their flights.

Re: I Think He Caught It
Lots of for Rachel and Melissa - in the job department (and of course, in making those trips realities).
Add my DH to the list of converts although I think he's still sort of a closet Disney fan. He'd never been to WDW until he was 27 and went with me and my sisters. After we married and had the girls, I figured since he'd never gone as a child, he'd never agree to go to WDW til the kids were old enough to appreciate all of the parks. Well, he surprised me 2 yrs ago suggesting we take our 1st family trip (girls were 5 and 2.5 at the time) AND then surprised me by suggesting we stay onsite too. Once we were there, HE was the one who made the appt with DVC and he was the one who suggested another trip so soon. It's nice, isn't it?

Re: I Think He Caught It
Add my DH to the list of conversions too. I had to beg, cry and down right threaten to get him there for our first family trip in 2001. He was not happy about it and that is how he earned the nickname Grumpy. But as soon as he hit FW he started to like it. He was impressed with the campground and our cabin "in the woods". One trip on SE and he admitted he felt the magic. Now, he gets almost as excited as me to go!

Re: I Think He Caught It
DFiance is a convert too.. I managed to get him hooked before we even got there.. I'd read him little snips of guidebooks, show him a hint of planning video, that kind of thing.. Before I knew it, he was stealing all my planning materials, and I'd say he's just as pumped about going back as I am.. and I keep having to remind him that this is for DD's BDay.
