As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The age of the child in your party? Uh, 34...Dad\'s new hat, 3/25
Ah, my parents...you may recall stories of pin filled fishing hats and capri pants with tall socks. I'm going to see them next week, on my february break, and we've decided to go to Disney, again. I've been twice now with the parents as an adult, but haven't shared a room with them since I was 17. Let the games begin...
Back in the fall when they knew their dates for retirement they tried to get Mark and I to commit to a visit. We ended up selecting Marathon Weekend, partly because I was already registered (although not sure about the running) and partly because it was cheaper then my break times. (By the way, it was a great trip, see my last trip reportm Half Marathon Comeback Run, if you don't you'll never know why being called Wayne is funny) We briefly looked in to visiting during March and trying to hit some pre-season baseball, specifically the Red Sox, but the plane tickets were outrageous. I told Mom that if I could find a good price on a plane ticket that I would come alone in February. Its not that Mark doesn't want to go, he just really shouldn't take anymore time from work.
So the hunt begins. I check Southwest, Cheaptickets and Priceline religiously. I was within minuntes of purchasing the ticket from hell, cheap as it was, when I found a better deal. Priceline had tickets right around $200 for break week (WOW, last time I flew the week I paid $400), but the flights were just plain crazy. I would have to fly from Buffalo to Cleveland to Nashville to Orlando or I could fly from Buffalo to Chicago, have a 4 hour layover then fly to Atlanta to Orlando. These were easily 12 hours days. Also, I wouldn't arrive until evening on a monday and would have to leave at 6AM on thursday. I debated and debated until one day I checked priceline and they had Airtran tickets for a good price. I went straight to the Airtran site and ended up with a flight from Rochester to Orlando, connecting in Atlanta for $202. The lay over is pretty long, but I get in at 3 and don't leave until 6PM on thursday, so really its like getting 3 1/2 days.
Plane tickets purchased, now I need a park ticket. We didn't have much planned, but I wanted to get a park ticket before I was forced into a MYW ticket that was more expensive. I ordered another 2 day pass like the ones I ordered for Marathon weekend (if I had just known then I would have gotten myself a 5 day pass, but anyway).
All set, Monday, February 21 to Thursday, February 24 I'll be visiting the luxury golf and pool resort otherwise known as "Mom and Dad's Trailer Park". Oh dear.

Re: The age of the child in your party? Uh, 34...PreTrip-weather?
I foolishly checked the weather. Why do I bother? Like they really know 10 days ahead of time. It says rain. I don't want rain, then I can't wear cute shoes!!! And can you just see Mom and Dad in their ponchos? It could be more than I can handle.
Anyway, back to the planning...
Mom and Dad's trailer/dream house is really not that big. Actually, its the smallest one in the park. Three years ago they bought a trailer, a Trail Manor if you are familiar with the brand, this weird little hard sided pop-up thing and swore that this was the retirement trailer. They went on and on about how easy it was to tow and put up and everyone always thought it was so neat. Then one day a year ago, they went to an RV show and bought at new trailer. Just like that. Spending my inheritance without a thought for my future (just kidding!) Now, this is the trailer of retirement. "No RVs for us, no sirree, we going to tow this trailer behind our behemoth truck and we don't need anymore space" Yeah, right.
They have lived in Florida for 6 weeks. How many RV shows do you think they have in Florida? I would say, give or take a few, about a million. They pretty much go to a show every week. And now they want a bigger trailer. Surprise Surprise. I wish they would just by the damn RV and get it overwith! They didn't do it yet, but I know the bigger one is coming. Its trailer envy all over the place in these retirement camps.
So given the smallness of the trailer, Mom and Dad decided we should stay in a hotel for one night, maybe Pop Century? Oh, they had a room with a Fl Discount, how about two nights? Hmmm, I hear that POFQ is nice, lets stay there. Seriously, stop spending my inheritance!! I joke with Mom all the time that I'm not putting in her a nursing home because it costs too much, she can just be the crazy old lady in capri pants and tall socks who lives in my basement!
Now that we had ressies, Mom and Dad need to officially become residents. I guess this is rather easy. They went to a rural DMV, asked to get a resident id card, gave the lady their address and got the card. No id, no birth cerificate, no proof of address. I suppose lots of old folks do the same so they just hand them over, but if its that easy why aren't we all just cheating the system?
So ids in hand they order annual passes. The go right past FL passes and get the full on annual pass. And then they go to Epcot, and then they call me to tell me they are in Epcot, watching Off Kilter. Nice. Thanks. Just rub that in. Oh, maybe you could send me a picture? How nice. Go have fun old man, and stop trying to make me jealous!!

Re: The age of the child in your party? Uh, 34...PreTrip-weather?
Sounds like a lovely trip Kim!! I cannot imagine sharing a hotel room with both of my parents on a vacation. But maybe they will spend a few of your inheritance dollars on you while you are there with them!! I hope the weather forecast changes so you get to wear those cute shoes!!

Re: The age of the child in your party? Uh, 34...PreTrip-weather?
Oh and they sent photos too! I don't think they love me, I think they just like to torture me. First it was a childhood spent with a father in socks and sandals, then an adolescence with a mother with a bleached bouffant hairdo (I am not kidding!), and now my adulthood, with cruel photos of themselves in Disney having fun while wearing fishing hats.
