As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

A teacher is picking on my kid!
My middle daughter is in 6th grade. I e-mailed all of her teachers last month about our vacation (on V-Day). Everyone was fine, but a couple of teachers didn't respond.
One of them was her Science teacher. Well, the teacher has been picking on her lately. They have a group project to work on in the next 4 weeks. Some kids are assigned to turn theirs in earlier than others. DD was told that hers was due on the 21st. She told the teacher that she wasn't going to be here for that, and that she was leaving in 2 days. She won't have any time to meet with her partners.
The teacher's response? "I know you're supposed to be in Florida. Guess you'll just have to stay home or get an F."
The kid can't help when I scheduled our trip! And, there are other teams that are being given until next month to get their projects in! DD could have worked on hers AFTER we got back, and met with her partners then. Not only is she being punished (which I'm willing to accept to some extent- we ARE taking her out of school), but her partners are being punished also.
By the way, the school is on break most of that time. The kids will only miss 2 days.
I have e-mailed the school administration, and requested a meeting with the teacher after we get back. All this stuff happened yesterday, no time to talk to anyone about it before we leave.

Re: A teacher is picking on my kid!
I think the best thing to do is meet with the teacher face to face. I can see where the teacher stands (kind of) where he/she assigned something and set a due date but to single one person/group out after giving others an extension on the project or just a longer period of time to work on it (compared to others) doesn't seem right. Seems like EVERYONE'S project should be due at the same time!!!
Also, for the teacher to say something like that . . . that could have been handled in a different way!!! Like, "I am sorry. That is the date I assigned the project to be due." --- or even better, "Well, we'll see what we can do about getting your project in a little later . . . it's due on the 28th now."
Sorry you're having to deal with that right before a vacation!!! That stinks!!! There always has to be one Scrooge in every bunch, though and unfortunately, it looks like the Science teacher is it this time!!!
Hope it gets resolved in the end
. . . and have a great time on your trip!!!

Re: A teacher is picking on my kid!
I am so sorry! Being a former Science Teacher I know it can be upsetting at times when students are gone. However, it is a fact of life and the teacher should not take it out on the student. I can't imagine that if you talk with the teacher yourself that something can't get worked out. I would say just talk with the teacher directly or go thru the counselor. Is there a way to leave the teacher a voice mail?
Also, to play devil's advocate: I know at times that things that I said were taken out of context or blown out of proportion or changed by the time the student got home. Maybe what was said wasn't nearly that bad but got filtered in a different way. When we are already nervous about things it can change our perception.
That being said if the teacher doesn't want to work with you or still tries to fail your daughter then I say move her to a different class if that is an option. Good luck! It totally stinks for a child to have to worry about a grade on a vacation that is out of their control!

That is really what upset me. I am willing to accept that there are things the kids will miss. And work that will be turned in late, so I don't mind a lesser grade. It just seems like she is punishing DD's partners and DD for MY decision.

Re: A teacher is picking on my kid!
What a rotten mind game for the teacher to use on your child. A later turn-in date and lower grade could've been mentioned but an F or stay home? That's really harsh!! My parents were both teachers so we NEVER missed a day of school for vacation, but as an adult myself, I feel life is too short, take the opportunities you have and enjoy your time with your family!!

Re: A teacher is picking on my kid!
Grrrr....this irritates me to no end!
Does your school have a make-up policy? We give the student 2 days for every day they were absent. It does not matter if the absence was from illness or vacation. These 2 days must also be added on to the amount of time a student had to work on a project. So for example, a child has a long-term assignment that takes 20 days. If the child was absent 2 days during that time, the student would have 4 extra days to complete the assignement, so he or she would actually have 24 days to work on the assignment. If the assignment was a group assignment the whole group would have an extra 4 days.
If your school has a make-up policy then the teacher must follow it, no matter what!
Don't worry about the assignment - there are more important things in life then a science project. Just have fun!

That is why YOU are a fantastic teacher, Robin!!! I couldn't agree with you more & fortunately our School district has that same philosophy ( & policy) I have NEVER had a teacher or administrator question when I take my kids out of school for Disney NOR have they ever penalized my kids for missing..
I agree everyone.. a face to face is in order & make sure admin is there as well..
Let us know what happens but in the meantime.. HAVE GREAT TRIP & don't worry about school until you get back!!
