As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Question on Birthday Badge
We will be at Disney durning the week before my b-day
#48.
Anyway the question should I stop by City hall and get a bday badge. Maybe on the day we are going to Hoop-Dee-Doo
Not sure if I should shamelessly plug my b-day.
Will be 48 the day after we leave wdw
Thoughts anyone.

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
Go ahead! We almost did for my a while before my birthday once, just didn't have the time. They take your word for it, they don't ask for identification. I wanted to celebrate mine because I can never celebrate it in WDW.
You could tell the CM on the phone when you make PS's that you are celebrating your birthday.
I'll think of some other stuff later!

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
We did this once for my son's birthday when we went to WDW just a few days after his birthday. Also make sure to mention that you are celebrating your birthday when you make your room ressie and again when you check in and also at the restaurant podium when you check in for your priority seatings. It's often amazing what Disney comes up with in the way of special little extras to help celebrate your birthday.

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
Make sure you get your pin at City Hall - it really is fun all the special attention. They'll ask for bdays at the Hoop Dee Doo also. We celebrated my 30th bday at WDW. My actual bday was before we got there, but we picked one day to celebrate it again while we were there. Tell your hotel too - we stayed at the GF and they sent tuxedo strawberries and a personal "note" from Snow White. We went to Cinderella's Castle for breakfast and all the princesses made a big deal over me!! It was AWESOME!!

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
I say go for it - there's nothing more magical than celebrating your birthday at Disney and if you're going to miss out by a day, then why not celebrate a couple of days early instead?

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
Definitely!! I was there for my 42nd birthday last August and got a B-Day badge at Epcot. The CM at Mission Space put me and my kids at the front of the line, the CMs in Canada gave me a birthday phone call from Goofy, and I was wished Happy Birthday by CMs all day long. It was wonderful!! At the Polynesian I received balloons and an autographed picture of Cinderella. Go and enjoy!

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
I celebrated my 30th at WDW last June and wore the birthday button in each park! I was wished a Happy Birthday by just about every CM I saw, was sang too by some and was wished a Happy Birthday by a TON of characters from the Spectromagic Parade! Our hotel sent me a card signed by all the characters - it made the whole trip SO much fun!

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
We are going during my birthday also. I am thinking of getting the B-day badge. I say we should do it! Do you get one from every park or just wear the same one, say if I get one at MK in City Hall, and go to Epcot the same day, do I wear that one there or get a new one? Wanted to actually go for my DD b-day but that is in August and heard the crowds were just awful then!
Just wondering!

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
Go for it! I went during my b-day weekend and got one from each of the parks! MK and MGM had the same one, but Epcot's and AK's are different! I loved the attention and I got a birthday cupcake at the GF Tea and the entire room sang Happy Birthday to me! I loved feeling like a kid again(one that loves b-days, instead of hating getting older! )

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
I got one from MK and Epcot (I was in MGM, but since their's was the same as MK, I didn't get it.)
I think it's really nice to wear it because CMs and other guests wish you a happy day. It made mine so much more special! (I turned 38 during the trip - and IMHO, you're never to old to enjoy attention!)
Go for it!
Eileen
PS - I did also note it on our reservation and asked that it be on all of our PSs, but we never got any "special" treatment other than the reactions to the pins. At my birthday breakfast at 'Ohanna's, DS mentioned it to all the characters and THEY made a fuss. Lots of hand-kissing and air kisses!

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
Get the button and wear it proudly; you'll be glad you did.
DS5 wore his button with pride and had lots of magical things happen.

Re: Question on Birthday Badge
As you can see from my sig, we're going in (just under) 2 weeks for my birthday - it's Monday the 28th, but I am thinking about getting the badge(s) early. We visited WDW on DH's birthday in Nov a few years ago, so now it's my turn!
He's also promising/threatening to get me a birthday cake hat...
