As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Your very favorite....
Wow, where do I start?
One night on our last trip DH wanted to go fishing on Bay Lake. I took DD to the Contemporary to do some shopping. On the boat ride back to FW I started telling DD about all the trips I had taken to WDW and my memories of being with my Mom and Dad on a boat ride like the one we were on. My Dad died about 6 years before DD was born so it was wonderful to reflect on my childhood memories while making new ones with her. And it gave me a chance to tell her something about the grandfather she never knew and the man who created my love for WDW.
Then there was the day when I was in line at the picture pick up at AK and DH was waiting outside with DD. A CM came up and started filling a large metal bucket with soda to sell and DD jumped in and started helping her. The CM was so sweet and welcomed DD's help, even though it took a lot longer for her to do it. She then went and got a Magical Moment certificate with DD's name on it and gave her a pin with Timone and Pumba on it.
Both of these moments brought me to tears and are memories I will cherish forever. Almost time to make more!!!

Re: Your very favorite....
I would say my favorite memory from our 2003 trip was two-fold. First, entering the AKL for the first time was quite memorable. But my favorite was durring the Sunrise Safari we were able to attend since we were concierge guests. At the lovely breakfast that was part of the safari there were several birthdays in our group. Two young African men came in and sang a traditional African Birthday song. It was mesmorizing! In fact, afterward, most of us were appauled that we had all been too taken away by their singing to take a snap shot or even video their performance. It was truely memorable!

Re: Your very favorite....
I would have to say that my Disney memory from our last trip had to be how wonderful on these boards were. Matt had had broken his ankle 5 dyas before we left and our arrival at OKW was anything but pleasant! Everyone on these boards was so supportive and made out trip so much better. (I had brought one of the boys laptops with us and was able to keep in touch with everyone). The Contemporary was wonderful with Matt, even when they had the hot water pipe break and had to relocate everyone on the lagoon side. I never felt so much love and support and it was truly a wonderful experience!

Re: Your very favorite....
I'd have to say my favorite family memory from our December trip was Alexa being the first kid that Crush talked to at Turtle Talk And of course, just seeing all the Christmas decorations!
My other favorite memory is meeting so many great Passporters at the MVMCP meet (both of them)!

Re: Your very favorite....
Well mine occured at DL. One was at Goofy's Kitchen. It was Kylor's birthday and the restaurant was almost deserted. We had lots of attention from all the characters. Aladdin came over and wanted to know how we'd gotten to DL from Michigan. When Kylor told him by plane he pretended he didn't know what a plane was and Kylor had to describe a metal bird with wings. Then Pluto came over and kept tickling Jalen - unfortunately he didn't give it up and Jalen got that look that he was about to cry and finally said, 'Mama, tell Pluto to quit bugging me'. Then Jalen hid under the table. Pluto finally got it and felt bad and ended up feeding Jalen (who was 4 at the time) his entire breakfast. He kept getting forkfuls and feeding Jalen his food Then Goofy made the boys stand on the seats to get their picture taken. We had their attention almost the entire time we were there. It was truly magical.

Re: Your very favorite....
I have a couple from my last trip in 2002. One was when we went to the Hoop Dee Doo and just looking around at my kid's faces and my godson's face they were having such a good time and were so happy, their little faces shining and thinking that this is what life is all about and why I scrimp and save and put myself in debt to go to WDW. Seeing Katie's face when she saw Cinderella for real for the first time was classic. At AK we were standing in line to see Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, etc. and I knew they were going to be going on break soon but I realized that the pen we had for autographs had broken so I ran to the store to get another I ran back and halfway down the trail I found DD#2 & DD#3 (Shannon & Katie) coming towards me leading Piglet by the hand to his break. It was so sweet! DH said that when the CM said that it was time for Piglet's break Katie grabbed him by the hand and said "I'll walk you out!" But I have to say the funniest memory I have of my last trip happened at Universal when we went to the Nickolodean GAS show (the fake one not the real one) and my DH was picked for something as we walked in the door and when they announced his name he walked out dressed like Jimmy Neutron . The kids still tease him about it!

Re: Your very favorite....
Our last trip was the 4 day cruise. We have so many magical memories from that trip, I don't even know where to begin. I think the best and most prevalent was walking on the ship and finding it was still decorated for Christmas (the cruise was 1/4 till 1/8, I had no idea the decorations would still beup!) It was so beautiful.
Another magic moment, actually 2, was on our Atlantis Beach Day. DS wanted to go jet-skiing, and when they came around, we made him talk to the guys on the beach signing them up. He thought we were going to pay for a half hour, but instead, we told him we would pay for a full hour. He was thrilled, and even at 20, the look on his face was priceless! And the next magical moment came when he was out jet-skiing, we walked around the resort and had lunch at an outdoor cafe, just the two of us, It was warm, sunny and romantic.
Oh, I could go on and on....

Re: Your very favorite....
Wow . . . well . . .
The first would be December 2003, which was DD's first trip to Disney World. We were with my parents and both of my sisters (whom I don't get to see very often), it was the holidays and Emilie's first time seeing Cinderella's Castle. The first time we walked into MK, everyone just got tears in their eyes because Emilie was so excited and freaking out!!!
The next would be October 2004. We were sitting across from the train station on the last night of our trip waiting for SpectroMagic to start and DD and I were approached by a CM. After talking for a while he left and came back with a Magical Moments Certificate for Emilie and announced she would be shutting the lights off to start the parade!!! I cried like a baby . . . and Ricky (the CM) and I have been friends ever since!
THEN . . . just a couple of weeks ago . . . on Jan. 5th, I put Emilie in the car at 6:30am and drove 440 miles to Orlando and surprised her with a "mommy/daughter" trip. Her reaction was priceless!!! The next day we met up with our CM friend Ricky and he surprised ME by pulling Emilie out to throw the pixie dust to start Spectro AGAIN!!!

Re: Your very favorite....
The look on my daughter's face when she realized that Piglet was at Crystal Palace...pure hapiness!
And from DL the first time we were in the Parade of the Stars, we were asked our favorite characters, and DD got to dance with Piglet in the parade!!!! I was partners with Mushu, who was very kind to uncoordinated me...it was just an awesome experience! I kept telling the girls "We're Famous!"
DD's marched in the parade a second time on our last trip, and this time they were wearing tutus with their teenage cousin (I'm keeping the pictures as blackmail someday). He was mortified, but what a memory--We'll never forget it!

Re: Your very favorite....
Riding It's a Small World and Cinderella'a carousel as a child and then riding them again as an adult, thinking of my Mom, who passed away 4 years earlier, and remembering how much she liked them too; IASW was the first ride I rode on my 2003 trip, and I got to sit in the front of the boat, by myself, and laughed and cried my way through the whole ride, and sang along, of course! CM's probably thought I was nuts, but who cares?
Other 2003 highlights; watching my big, brave Dad jump out of his seat at HISTA, when the "mouse" scampers by; sitting in front at The Great Movie Ride and having Bugsy say TO ME, AFTER he put the microphone down to go grab the stone, "Save my seat, Doll, I'll be right back!"
Also from Nov. 2003, meeting up with Rita on the bus on the way to SSW at MGM and having her, a SSW veteran, "adopt" me for the day. If it weren't for her, I know I wouldn't have experienced many things, including autographs from Kathy Brier and Cameron Mathison, and getting to sit front row at the last talk show of SSW, where Cameron Mathison was flicking Redi-whip from his bare chest onto the audience! I could've died right then that day, and been a VERY happy girl!
Highlights of my November, 2004 trip, besides my sig. pic. below, included getting to see so many Christmas decorations, including "tests" of the Osbourne Lights, and the night I came back to my room to see my Eeyores were sitting on the bed, watching t.v. together!

Re: Your very favorite....
Mine came while I worked at Disney on The College Program I was working at Typhoon Lagoon at Typhoon Tilly's I was on register and I had finished an order but we were backed up and i started up a conversation with the family they noticed I was From CT and mentioned where they were from in CT as well. They lived right near where my grandparents lived. They shopped at the Wal Mart where my grandfather worked as a greeter. They knew him as they had spoken many times while getting stickers for their DD. I was terribly homesick and they made it feel like i was with my own family for a moment. They took his name just in case they forgot. When they got home they gave him a hug for me and When i Called one night he asked if i had spoken with a family while at work because They had gone up to him. My grandfather has since passed and its just a magical moment a guest gave me.
Another Magical Moment I had was with my Mom and a fellow passporter when we got to go on an illuminations cruise but ended up bumping into each other in Norway unplanned and totally random!

Re: Your very favorite....
From the trips with my boys, almost every minute was fun- probably the best was just all the laughing we did- from the most recent trips: sitting on the chairs on the beach area in front of the BC, watching the sun set, having the pleasure of meeting several PP!Sheila
