As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Planning a Baby Shower!
Well, believe it or not, my DD is almost ready to have her baby. She is due on February 24th.
I am planning on her baby shower for Feb 5th. We are renting a little hall, and having it catered. (no work for me )
I will have to decorate, and make the favors, and organize the games and all the tiny details, so I am not getting off that easy...
As far as the favors, I am planning on making white chocolate taffies, in the shapes of bottles and teddy bears. I am also planning on making CDs for all the guests.
It will have all my favorite songs about children. Not kid songs, but songs written about the artist's children. Here is my list so far...
Father and Daughter--Paul Simon
Isn't She Lovely--Stevie Wonder
Me and You Against the World--Helen Reddy
Danny's Song--Kenny Loggins
Beautiful Boy--John Lennon
Sweet Baby James--James Taylor
Baby Baby--Amy Grant
Flowers for Zoë--Lenny Kravitz
Forever Young--Rod Stewart
Lullaby (Goodnight My Angel)--Billy Joel
Butterfly Kisses--Bob Carlisle
What a Wonderful World--Louis Armstrong
For The First Time--Rod Stewart
Cat's In The Cradle--Harry Chapin
Just The Two Of Us--Will Smith
Then, I will end it with Brahm's Lullaby. (You know...lullaby...and good night...with roses bedeit...with lilies bedecked...is baby's sweet bed...)
I know Cat's In The Cradle is not exactly a happy story, but I like the message it gives about spending time with your kids when they want you to.
Meaghan (my DD) has lost a lot of weight during her pregnancy. 16 pounds to be exact! And yet, her baby continues to grow at a healthy rate. I keep teasing her that he is going to be a big baby because he is eating all her fat. I have taken to calling him "Butterbean". For all of you that know the boxer by the same name, you will know that it is hardly a kind nickname! Meaghan always tells me that I am cursing her into having a big baby. Sooooo, on the cake, I am putting "For the Drama Queen, and her ButterBean".
She is having a boy, btw, for those of you who have asked and I haven't posted about it yet. She had decided to name him Ian Jeffrey, but has now said that she isn't sure she wants that name.
Anyway, if anybody has any suggestions for more songs, or for really great games to play at the shower, please let me know.
Maggie

Re: Planning a Baby Shower!
Maggie -
Congrats to your DD! I am JEALOUS that she has lost weight...I hope the baby IS taking all of her fat! Wouldn't that be nice?
It sounds like you have everything under control! Is it a co-ed shower, or just girls only? The last time I went to a co-ed shower, they had the men have a "drinking" contest, where they all had to drink out of bottles. It was hysterical!
Good luck with the shower - I'm sure it will go great!

Re: Planning a Baby Shower!
Sounds like you've got a great party planned! As for games, you could do one that my Aunts always do when they throw a shower. Its the baby food tasting one. You remove the labels from baby food jars and let people try to guess what they are by tasting, smelling, etc. Its hilarious and a bit gross. Whoever guesses the most correctly wins.
BTW, I'm 18 weeks preggers and like your DD, I too have lost 15 lbs. Its really odd because I haven't had any morning sickness at all. Tell your DD to take it easy these last few weeks!

Planning a Baby Shower!
Margaret be sure and take pictures of all your handiwork to show off! Sarah has some great suggestions.
What about James Taylor's Sarah Maria? I wanna say it's off of the Gorilla album but I'm not sure.

Re: Planning a Baby Shower!
Just remembered another game my aunts have done (they are the bridal/baby shower queens). They had a ball of yarn and each guest had to take piece that was as long as they thought my belly was round. When everyone had their piece, my aunt measured around my belly with another piece of yarn and the person with the yarn that matched the closest won. My niece, who was almost 4 years old at the time won!

Re: Planning a Baby Shower!
How fun Maggie! We didn't play games at my shower (we're not a games type of family) but I've heard of the ones Sarah mentioned and one that sounded like fun - Diaper Derby. You blindfold people and see who can diaper a baby doll the fastest!
Also add "Godspeed" by the Dixie Chicks to your list. I love that song!

Maggie,
Arms Wide Open by Creed. The lead singer wrote it about the birth of his son.

Re: Planning a Baby Shower!
Sounds like you've got a fun shower planned. I just had my shower a few weeks ago and we played baby bingo. All the quests had bingo cards with baby stuff written in each square (bottles, bibs, onesies, etc), and as I was opening presents they would mark the items off that were on their card until someone had bingo. It was fun!

Re: Planning a Baby Shower!
Wow! Thanks everybody for the suggestions. I will certainly add those songs to the list.
All of those games sound fun. I am definitely adding them to the itinerary.
Sara, sorry to hear you arent in a game playing family. With your competitive spirit, I know you would love it. (anybody remember the little "incident" during the MouseFest 2003 treasure hunt? )
Thanks again, all, and keep those suggestions coming!
Maggie

Re: Planning a Baby Shower!
One game we played at a shower I gave--set a timer to go off at different intervals (30 seconds & up) while mommy opens presents. Whose ever gift she is opening when the buzzer goes off gets a small gift. I had about 10 small "blue" bags with the tops folded over and ribbon threaded through to keep them shut. The guest had a blast revealing their goodies almost as much as the mommy-to-be did. The gifts came from the Dollar Store and wal-mart.
My favorite game involves wrapping a gift for the mom to be several times. Each time that you wrap it you tape a note card on the top with a rhyme that directs you to give the gift to a specific person (for example, someone with red hair). The note card before the gift is unwrap should direct the gift back to the mommy to be. The gift should be placed in among the other gifts without letting anyone know that it is actually a game. If you are interested I can dig around and find the different rhymes I used.
