Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Info about Yacht and Beach Club
Please Help!!
We are planning our trip to WDW in 10/01. DH has a convention at the Y&B Club. We have to stay there as they are giving us a rate that we can't pass on. I need to know all there is to know about it. I hear there is a bit of construction at the Beach Club and the Yacht Club is a little nicer with the full balconies. Anyone who has ever stayed there please share everything with me. I am so excited...we stayed at the Dolphin in 9/99 so we are familar with the Boardwalk area. Thanks a Bunch.

Re: Info about Yacht and Beach Club
We've stayed at both. We wound up at the Beach Club by accident because of a series of unfortunate events: a. we had to evacuate our camper at FW because Hurricance Erin blew in for a visit; b. our son had strep throat. Rather than put us in one of the convention centers with all the other campers, Disney found us a room at the Beach Club. And talk about a rate you couldn't pass up: we paid the same $38 we were paying for our camp site . But I'm off topic -- The Beach Club is lovely. We like the Yacht Club as well, but for some reason we prefer the Beach Club. I think in my case it's because they have little seahorses on the light fixtures. And DH loves the doorman who greets everyone with a smile and and cheery 'Hello'! And the kids would "camp" at the Beach Club any time!!! But both hotels are gorgeous. The rooms are fairly large, and we were lucky enough to have our own balcony with a view overlooking Storm Along Bay. That's another positive aspect to these hotels, and the reason we stayed there last summer. The kids just love the pool. It runs behind both hotels, has a sandy bottom, a shipwreck for a slide, and various tidal pools, etc. The only restaurant we used was Beaches and Cream for ice cream (yummy!), so I can't tell you anything except there are plenty of eateries to choose from. And, of course, you can walk to Epcot, which we really appreciated, and the Boardwalk. All in all, I think you'll be happy there.

Re: Info about Yacht and Beach Club
I have it on unofficial word that the Yacht Club is where Big Cheese Mr. Eisner stays when he visits Disney.
So, if it's good enough for him...
But, seriously, it's a pretty, if formal, resort. Lots of nautical theming, and you feel like you're at some posh New England boating club. You have Boardwalk near you, a walkway to the Studios and EPCOT, and bus transport everywhere else. Plus, Cape May Cafe character breakfast and evening clambake at Beach Club.
You may not fall in love with it, but you will like it.
Have fun.

Re: Info about Yacht and Beach Club
Thanks to everyone...
I would like opinons on which one (the BC or the YC) is better for children. Ages 9, 6, & 3. I heard that the YC is a bit stuffy for children and more for Adults.
Also, can you see the fireworks from the back side of the Beach Club? What kind of room should I ask for?
Thanks Again

Re: Info about Yacht and Beach Club
Hi Mindy! I stayed at the Beach Club in November and absolutely loved it. One advantage is that we were extremely close to the entrance of Epcot and yes, we could see the fireworks at night from our room. I faxed in my room request two days before we left. We had booked a package with a standard room, so I requested a non-smoking room with a forested view of Epcot, with a full balcony. We got exactly what we asked for and I couldn't have been more pleased. As far as the construction, it was out in the parking lot near the bus stop and in no way interfered with the beauty of this hotel. Your kids will love the pool which is right in between the Yacht Club and the Beach Club. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions.

Re: Info about Yacht and Beach Club
I agree with Pinkerbell. We were there just last month. The kids with us were: 17 months, 5 yrs, 11, 14, and although I guess he isn't really a KID...19. We all enjoyed it a lot. At the Beach Club, the full balconies are on the second floor, and (I think) the fourth floor. I do know that the 3rd floor had standing room balconies. Go to www.disneyzone.net and you can find a layout of the floor plan for both Y&B. That will help you decide WHERE you want to be. Then, like Pinkerbell said, fax in your request a week before you arrive. We got exactly what we wanted and more. The Epcot end of the Beach Club (standard view) is forested and you can see the fireworks of Illumination. We could also see Spaceship Earth through the trees.
Hope this helps.
Jennifer

Re: Info about Yacht and Beach Club
I have three teenagers, and I agree that the Yacht Club is a little "stuffier" than the Beach Club. We loved the Beach Club last spring and plan to re-visit this spring!!
Enjoy!

Re: Info about Yacht and Beach Club
Mindy-
I haven't stayed at the Yacht Club, but we liked the BC. My DH would like to stay there again... You can not beat it for the accessibility to Epcot or MGM. That is a big plus.
Your kids will love Stormalong Bay. My DD (5) loved it.
Like gym mom said, we looked at the floor plan and made our decision where to stay. We were on the Epcot end of the building, with a forest view. Even though they are adding on to the BC, the construction did not bother us. We never had any construction noise bother us.
Have a great time!
Michelle
