As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
Woo Hoo! After weeks and weeks of looking, we found a great Christmas Tree on QVC- with the easy pay thing so it will be nice on the budget too. Our old one looked like the Charlie Brown Christmas one- so it was definitely needed. Which brings me to another question for you guys..
How do you decorate your tree- the same each year or different themes, etc?
We always add new special ornaments every year but stick with bright reds, greens, purples, etc- very bright and festive. I do miss having a real one (always when I was growing up- but with 4 kids it's more practical- we can put it up earlier too.)

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
We get a real tree and we always get a really fat one! We have a collection of ornaments that we add to it every year. This year, I am planning on picking my new stuff up at Disney Days of Christmas and maybe a couple from World Showcase!!

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
We got a fakie last year for the first time . . . seemed easier than shelling out a bunch of extra money at Christmas time for a real one!!!
When we first got married, we decorated mainly with the ornaments I had received as a child, then we supplemented with the shiny ball ornaments and things . . .
The past couple of years, we have used my (now) large selection of Disney ornaments (I have a few sets of the "Storybook" ornaments and some ceramic bells with Disney characters painted on them.)

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
I've been decorating my tree pretty much the same for the last few years. We got a fibre optics tree so we don't have to light it anymore. Most of my ornaments are silver, blue and green - I love that combination at Christmas! I also have crystal and "nearly" crystal (ok, they're plastic!! ) icicles. The real crystal ones go up high where Goliath's tail can't break them. When he wags, it's like swinging a baseball bat!

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
YEAH!!! I love getting things in the mail!!! We have a fake tree every year (allergies )
We broke down 2 years ago and got one of those trees with the lights already on it - boy is it nice. Every year we use the same ornaments (even the ones from when DH and I were kids) and always add to it every year. The girls get 1 new ornament each year, and well, I think I have at least 6 new ones for DH and myself to put up this year alone.
I Christmas!

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
For 25 years my Dad and I went Christmas tree shopping together, just he and I. We had white lights and all German ornaments.
When I married DH, he had a fake tree (*killed* me the 1st year!) that I learned how to "professionally" light working at a department store at Christmas, so I do that every year (DH calls it the Burning Bush and says we have to take our shoes off in our living room ) and I use ornaments we've collected over the years, mostly Hallmark/Disney now. I have a wax angel with a velvet dress from Nurnberg that we put on top. DDs help decorate (it's quite the party!), so it's pretty ornament lop-sided, but always special!

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
I've had the same thing for about 6 years now - cream colored pearls, cream and peach ornaments and a very pretty cream colored angel on top with feathers. We use white lights and it is sooooooooo pretty. I love it! Last year my parents gave us their old artificial tree, which I love. Before that, we always used live trees.

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
We have a fake one now (I like to put it up the weekend before Thanksgiving) and Rebekah's asthma is so bad we can't have the real one anymore. I do buy that beautiful Christmas wreath that QVC has by Valerie Parr Hill--it's absolutely beautiful we've been getting it for about 5 years now. The big tree in the living room is done with all the ornaments we've had for a long time--some hand made treasures and some blown glass that belonged to my Mother. The smaller tree in the family room will be all Disney this year--last year it was the teacher tree (decorated with ornaments given to me by former students--I'm going to use them somewhere else this year--I could never part with them!). One of my favorite trees is in my bedroom and it is decorated totally in snowmen--I collect snowmen and thanks to Kristine I have the Mickey Snowman (yeah!!!). I love that tree--in fact it is already up and at night I have the lights on until I'm ready to fall asleep. I'm a Christmas nut--I'm already playing Christmas music and I'm ready to address my Christmas cards. It is my favorite time of the year and this year I get to visit Mickey during the Christmas season---I'm so excited!!!!!!

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
We've always had a real tree, but this year, we're getting a really tall fake one. We usually decorate it differently every year, but this year it's going to be an all Disney ornament one! Woohoo!

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
I don't have a tree in my house - I am never here for Christmas -- I am usually at Mom and Dad's house. So they do all the decorating before I get there.

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
For the last five years, we've had this horribly ugly fake tree that I bought at Big Lots! for $20. We were newly weds and didn't know any better. The tree was covered with burgandy and gold bows and non-breakables that are kitty-friendly (and later, were baby-friendly, too ). The ornaments were all lake- and cottage-themed. We have ornaments that say things like An old fisherman and his best catch live here.
I've been slowly collecting star-shaped ornaments over the years and they will make their debut appearance on my brand-new tree this year! I bought it at Target at the end-of-season sale last year for 50% off! It's a prelit, 6 foot tree. It was only $35! <-- That's a very happy me!
I'm going to start collecting hand-blown glass beads and string my own garlands. I don't care about the colors anymore! I want a bright, eye-sore, unmatching, fun tree like we had when I was a kid!

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
We always have a real tree and we decorate it the same every year. The lights are a soft pink, with wooden cranberry garlands and a beautiful quilted tree skirt. We use all our ornaments, I collect ornaments from "The Nutcracker" ballet and our new tradition is to buy the Adoption Ornament from Hallmark every year. ($$ goes to support the Dave Thomas Foundation.) We also have TONS of Disney Ornaments! In addition to the tree, DH collects the "Christmas in the City" series from Department 56 and I collect Nutcrackers. I can't wait to put everything up this year!

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
Growing up we always had a real tree but when I moved out on my own a fake tree was just easier to handle. I really want the new pre-lit trees (talk about convience). I usually decorate with the same decorations. Multi-colored lights, colored balls, and an assortment of ornamnets. I usally buy new ones to add to the collection every year. I bought one from Disney in June and can't wait to add it to the tree.

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
I've never had a real tree. The way I forget to water things, it's a good thing.
I have the pre-lit type of tree. It's 4 feet tall. I hate it. Ben(dh)got tired of carrying in my 7.5 tree every year. I mean, really, all he had to do was carry it in, I put it up by myself and I took it down by myself. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.
Christmas day, I went online to disneystore.com and ordered a bunch of ornaments when they were better than half price. So this year, we will have a Disney tree!!

Re: My Tree Is In the Mail!!!
We always have a real one and I try to get 1 new ornament a year, which lately have been whatever Stephen has created! We don't have a themed tree - it's a hodge podge of all sorts of decorations!
