As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

A piece of heaven in NYC - WOD w/pics 10-5-04!
everyone!
Straight from the Big Apple!
The grand opening of World of Disney on 5th Ave & 55th St.
A mini-trip report:
Originally, I was going to check out the new WOD store after work today. However, I woke up around 2am and couldn't get back to sleep until about 4a.m, so I decided to take a personal day from work . I left my house at about 11:30am, took the #7 train and switched to the W which left me on 5th Ave, by Central Park.
It's a beautiful day with the sun shining and clear, crisp, chilly air. Autumn has definitely arrived!
I decided to play tourist and whip out the for a few pics along the way.
Here are the famous horses & carriages on the corner of Central Park West and 5th Ave.
Only in NYC can you find a bride & groom buying a hotdog from a vendor!
Across the street, the Plaza Hotel
This is the fountain in front of the Plaza. The same sidewalk where Katie brushes Hubble's hair off his forehead and says "She's lovely Hubble". Also where Carrie does the same thing to Mr. Big. huh?
Crossing 5th was a sad sight the now empty FAO Schwartz.
Bergdorf Goodman's
Breakfast at Tiffany's anyone?
The Donald's Tower! Trump, not Duck!
Finally, our destination!
World of Disney, decked out with a red carpet and everything! (sorry, I brought my lowest MB memory card and couldn't take any pics of the carpet)
As you walk in, on your left you are greeted by Goofy!
On the right
The layout of the store is still pretty much the same. The merchandise is defintely not the same. Much better! On the right-hand side of the 1st. floor you'll find a lot of NYC/Disney themed merchandise.
On the left it's all WOD! Candy, Disney-at-Home merchandise, Disney Pet Tails, etc.
Towards the back of the 1st. floor is a display area with the coveted charms and bracelets!
On the 2nd floor you'll find toys and stuffed animals, as before in the old Disney Store.
Same witch at the 2nd floor elevator
There are also some collectibles.
You'll also see a Mr. Potato Head area! With NYC pieces!
There are also monorail sets for sale on this floor.
On the 3rd floor is a books/dvd/video game section on one end.
Many princess costumes for sale right outside of Cinderella's Princess Court.
A look inside the private room
Towards the center of the 3rd floor, you'll find DVC and Cruise booths, with videos to watch.
All the way on the other end of the 3rd floor is an area for you to take character pictures and purchase your Cinderella pictures too.
Here's a view form the 3rd fl. looking down.
As a special bonus for opening day, Mickey & Minnie were at the front of the store taking pictures! I had to get in line ofcourse!
Radio Disney was also there giving out temporary tattoos and window decals and running contests with t-shirt giveaways. I only took a tattoo and a decal.
My intentions were to purchase the 10 pins that came out today for the opening. See them here WOD Pins. Unfortunately I was too late for the Liberty Minnie & the NYC Silouette ones. I got the other 8 though! The Goofy Cab one was the last one, too!
I also had wanted to get some Disney Dollars while I was here, but none were left.
For those who want to know, you can still purchase park passes here. Sadly the AP discount is NOT accepted, but you lucky DVC members do get a discount. Since I'm not a member I didn't ask what the discount % is. I imagine it's the same as at DTD. I used my old Disney Credit Card (not the Visa) for my purchases.
I don't know if I left anything out, but feel free to ask!
Once I stepped out of the store, it was back to reality for me. At least I got out of the city before the evening rush hour!
So long, see ya real soon!

Re: A piece of heaven in NYC - WOD w/pics 10-5-04!
Great report!
We are going for the day in December (went last year too), and I swear we took the exact same photos. I did not get the Plaza or the fountain though. My DD loved getting her picture in front of Trump Tower.
I'm hoping to pick up some Disney Dollars while we are there as well as a few NY pins.

Beautiful pics. DD (11 yr. old)'s Middle School choir is going to NY in May. When asked where they would like to go "be tourists" at, she says "Disney Store, there's a new one opening soon!" (how did she know??!?!?!)
They are going for a choir competition, but will only perform 1 day of the 4 they are there.

Re: A piece of heaven in NYC - WOD w/pics 10-5-04!
I went today too! I went to work though I loved the red carpet outside! I bought the black Mickey bag for myself and a Squirt (Finding Nemo) for the boyf.
My boyfriend's co-worker went to the BIG grand opening yesterday (her sister works for the Mayor). She was nice enough to give me the lanyard of pins she got and the chocolate they handed out. It is an Aladdin lanyard with a NYC World of Disney Card on it. It came with two Aladdin pins, a grand opening pins with Mickey against the skyline, a soceror Mickey, a Minnie wearing pins, and a Belle and Jasmine pin. The chocolate looked like a picture frame with a white chocolate photo of the old building. I ate some before I could take a picture though
One of the coolest things I saw was an NYC scrapbook kit - great for those of you doing a daytrip to the city.
Have fun!
Sarah

I'd love to go sight seeing with anyone that visits NYC. Can you believe I've lived here all my life and have never been to the Statue of Liberty, the top of the Empire State and only got as far as the lower floors of the Twin Towers?
I'm so ashamed

It's fun to be a tourist in your own city!
Angie - now that DS is old enough, we've got to set up a trip to NYC for the kids to see the sights. Could you possibilty recommend a tour guide??
