Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Amsterdam Anyone? - Updated 11/2 - Complete!

Well it looks like my work trip to Germany is finally going to pan out! As a result, we'll be in Amsterdam at the end of the trip for a full day on a Saturday!

Anyone ever been? Main sites to see?

I'm headed off to do my research now, just looking to see if anyone else has ever ventured over there and has hints

Re: Amsterdam Anyone?

That sounds great Marnie, I have never been to Amsterdam although I have always fancied going. I have been to the Netherlands a few times but have still never got to Amsterdam. I think Cheryl mentioned that she has though so she might be able to help you out.

I went to Amsterdam when I was a 7 years old. I remember the area and thinking someday I'll come back when I'm older. I haven't made it back yet.

Have a safe and wonderful trip.

Re: Amsterdam Anyone?

Awesome, Marnie! I’ve been, and according to DH we’ll be back on our next trip to Europe. It depends on what you want to do. There are parts that are rather non family friendly. My suggestion is to not skimp on the hotel…pay the big rates so you can be in the middle of it all. We stayed on a river barge which was really cool, but I prefer to be centralized. The Anne Frank museum is really moving-- Amsterdam has tons of museums. We got a kick out of the Museum of Torture. There’s a sex museum, too. Lest it be known, there are a LOT of adult activities in Amsterdam. Have fun!

My sister and a friend visited a few years ago and really loved it. I'll have to ask her about the highlights. I know the Anne Frank house and some museums were high on her list. -HiddenMickey

Re: Amsterdam Anyone?

My friend and his wife were there for a week in August, and they loved it. They had heard about the "adult district", but were surprised about how much was there (red lights, adult toy stores, head shops). Might not be the most family-friendly area, but the rest of the city was magnificent, and it's about the same climate as New England/Mid-Atlantic.

Re: Amsterdam Anyone?

Marnie, we went for our second wedding anniversary in 2001 just for a day and had a lovely time. You must visit Anne Frank's house - it is so moving. We also took a river cruise, which was great fun and just walked around for the day, exploring the city. The adult district was an eye opener, shall we say! I remember we saw the Skinny Bridge and I think the Royal Palace as well. I'll have to have a look through my photos to remind me of what we did and come back and tell you more.

When are you going? My goodness - if you're going to be there, we could come over and meet you, as there are cheap flights from near where I work to Amsterdam!

Re: Amsterdam Anyone?

Thanks for all the info everyone! I think I'll skip the "adult" stuff even though this is an adult only trip. I'll be with my boss!

I'm heading over the middle of October! If you could swing it Cheryl, that would be so cool

Thanks again everyone!

Re: Amsterdam Anyone?

Hi Marnie
We went to Amsterdam for a weekend in 1998, DH proposed to me while we were having a romantic dinner on a canal boat.
Like Cheryl said there are lots of site to visit, Ann Franks house, The Skinny Bridge & you must visit the flower market it's just a mass of colour. Also as Cheryl mentioned there is a colourful adult district & quit a few coffee shops that sell some "dodgy" tabacco(I refused to go into the coffee shops) You also must do a canal boat tour & try to visit Dam Square, it's beautiful.
I hope you have a great time,
Lisa.

Re: Amsterdam Anyone?

Marnie,

I lived for a year in the Netherlands (Alkmaar) and spent a lot of time in A'dam. Don't forget to visit the Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt House and Van Gogh house. The Artis Zoo is quite nice. You can also visit Queen Beatrix's royal castle. If you see a sign of a VVV office, stop in there. That's like the tourism office and they're very helpful and have free stuff.

Goede reis en groeten aan de Bakkers uit Alkmaar!

Re: Amsterdam Anyone?

DH and I spent our honeymoon there. It's a beautiful city with extraordinary architecture. Anne Frank's house is a must-see. A canal boat trip is a great way to see a lot of the city in a short time. The flower market (Bloemenmarkt) is beautiful. We loved the Rijksmuseum. There is a beautiful park in Rembrandtplein (close to the Bloemenmarkt). It's a great place to sit and eat a falafel and frites. That is close to the Blauwbrug, a cool iron and stone bridge adorned with nautical sculptures. You should try to check out the Tuschinski Theater also. It's very art deco. Even if you only see it from the outside...it's spectacular. We saw "American Beauty" when we were there.

If you can find it, there's a cafe behind the Stedelijk museum called Small Talk Cafe. They had the most amazing french onion soup. Speaking of good food, you can't miss having the little pancakes! They are sweet and delicious!

I could go on and on. We really love it there. So much so that we went back 9 months after our honeymoon. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a personal message. I'd love to help a fellow Passporter with her planning!
