Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

USF & IOA Halloween Nights Question

I realize I'm once again bringing up the competition... But does anyone know anything about the Halloweeen Horror Nights at USF & IOA? I'm wondering if it's worth the money for the extra things like the haunted houses & "scare zones". Also wondering if we'll be happier having extra time in the parks to do more rides or if it's necessary since it may not be as busy in Oct. We already bought the 3-day for the price of 2-day pass, so it seems like the add-on pass is the way to go if we do it. Anybody been there last year?? And which one's better if we can only go one day, the one at USF or IOA?? (Actually, I think this might be the 1st year it's at both so maybe that's a dumb question!) Thanks for your help!!

Re: USF & IOA Halloween Nights Question

Hi Koquinn,

I went to the Haunted Halloween nights last year and was scared out of my mind. It's very good if you like real Haunted houses. DH2B has gone a couple times(including last year) and he really likes it. I did enjoy going on some of the rides but have to admit I wasn't very good with the haunted houses. But I would recommend it to anyone who likes that stuff. The Haunted Houses they come up with are awesome. They really go for the effets. It worked on me as I kept screaming. Actually everyone was laughing around me because of how scared I got. At least I kept folks amused. After about the 4th haunted house I needed alcohol.

This is the first time it's going to be at both US and IOA. Last year they had it at IOA, and the first time DH2B went, it was at US. I will warn you it does get very crowded, although with it being at both parks it will probably reduce the crowds.

Where are you staying when you go to US/IOA. Not sure if this your first time going or not but it's a fun place. I loved Men in Black and the ET ride.

Hope this helps, feel free to message me for any other info you might need.

Re: USF & IOA Halloween Nights Question

I went last year to IAO for HHN, and I LOVED it. But Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday, and I like being scared. If you are a haunted house connoisseur, you'll be really impressed with the way these are done. Each one is fabulous, with lots of detail, and lots of scares!

There are also "ghoulies" around the park, hiding and waiting to jump out and run their chainsaws at you. So, you never really get any "downtime."

I say it's definitely well worth the money. You won't be disappointed!

Re: USF & IOA Halloween Nights Question

Do you have children and what are their ages? We took our DS and his friend, both 9yo, last year to MNSSHP (which we all loved) and when we checked into RP, they asked if we wanted to go to their Halloween version.

They let us know it was totally different that Disney's version and was geared toward teenagers and college students as it can be quite scary. So we opted not. They mentioned cast members chasing you with axes, lots of dry ice, and scary, scary Halloween houses.

Hope this helps you make your decision,

Re: USF & IOA Halloween Nights Question

It's just my DH and me, no kids or I think we'd be skipping this. Thanks for the advice - it sounds great!! We definitely like being scared. The only trouble I'm having is convincing my DH that we'll still have enough energy left by the end of the week to do these extra things. We're going to the MNSSHP earlier in the week too - he thinks I'm crazy. But he's never been to WDW, so I want to make sure we do as much as we can before we have kids with us someday!!

We're staying on Disney property, not USF. I was at USF a good 10 years ago or so, but IOA wasn't even open then and I think USF was quite a bit smaller. I can't wait to see it now!! Plus that was with my 'rents and that just isn't the same...

Anybody know if I should purchase the tickets ahead of time? Do you think they'll really be sold out like the website suggests?? Also, I bought my day passes ahead of time thru AAA - USF says I can't just get the Stay & Scream pass, I have to buy the full price HHN tickets cuz I got my other ones thru AAA. Any thoughts?

Thanks again for all the help!

Re: USF & IOA Halloween Nights Question

I believe we did buy our tickets ahead of time, not sure what we ended up getting as we were staying at the HRH which is on site. These are very popular and do tend to sell out quickly.

We did both HHN and MNSSHP on our last trip and I think we did okay. We did HHN the 2nd night of our trip so I was a bit tired but that's because I don't sleep well in hotels.

I think you'll have a great time.
