Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

My negatives, their pictures...any advice for me (website added)

I don’t know if any of you remember the thread I post a while back about my friend who’s husband sent me a dear John letter regarding my relationship with her. He said that she no longer wanted to be my friend…etc..etc. This was totally out of the blue and a total shock to me.

Anyway I had done a great deal of photography for them. Stupid me (thinking they were going to stay friends with me) gave them the negatives to all the photos I took for them. Now that we are no longer friends I requested the negatives back. I just got an e-mail from Kim (the husband) denying my request. They did pay for the film and processing however they SHOULD have…then never paid for my time or talent. Am I just in requesting my negatives back? I know I could sell a handful of the photos but I need the negatives to print them. I am not willing to have copies made of the negatives.

Any advice??? You guys are so great I am sure you will help lead me in the right direction. I really don’t want to take her to court but if that is what I have to do I am willing to do that.

Re: My negatives, their pictures...any advice for me

Is photography your livelihood? Were the photos giving to your ex-friends as a gift? Was it an agreement before the dear John letter that you would be getting the negatives? I don't know if there anything you can do. Or if you really want the headache of going to court over this. You should really think hard about whether or not these negatives are worth the negative stuff you will have to go through to get them back. Sometimes its just better to let go.

Unless there was a written agreement that you would either be paid for the photos or you would get the negatives back - I think you are out of luck.

I gotta go with Terri on this one. Unless you've got something in writting, going to court will be a waste of time. If I were you, I'd forget all about them and just go on.

Re: My negatives, their pictures...any advice for me

Thanks for the advice...I am still not sure what I am going to do. Some of the photos were pretty good and I do own the rights to them (seeing I took the pictures). To me they are worth the aggravation. After thinking it about it last night I decided that if they at least give me access to the negatives for a month or so I would be happy. That way I could go through them and make copies of the prints that I like. If they want them back...fine they will have to agree to only use them for publicity for the farm (which was the original oral agreement). What I have learned from all this?...not to trust anyone no matter how close they are. I even took business law classes in college I should know...get it in writing!! You live and you learn.

Again...thanks!

Robin, I have no advice to give, but I wanted to let you know I'm sending you a ton of pixie dust. As if it wasn't hard enough that they decided to no longer be your friend, then they do this? Doesn't it make you kinda glad they are no longer your friends? I mean, what kind of people do this to a friend?

Re: My negatives, their pictures...any advice for me

"Possession is 9/10 of the law", so if they don't lend them (or give them) to you, they definitely have the upper hand. Oral agreements boil down to your word against theirs and you'd have to prove pretty substantially that you "owned" the negatives and have a right to them. Unfortunately, in our litigious society, judges are fed up with cases that don't show significant harm/damage, so they tend to be harsh about the judgement.

I wonder if some of your desire to get the pictures back is a way to reconnect on some level with these people who hurt you so much (which was AWFUL, btw, I remember when it happened to you). Is it possible that you can just forgive them and let it go? I do know how difficult that is, but I heard a quote last year that really changed my thinking, "Not forgiving someone is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die."

I am so sorry that all this has happened to you and you have suffered yet another loss at the hands of these people. I hope they are reasonable and at least lend you the negatives!

At first I thought maybe my sub-conscious was thinking this but after thinking about it and talking to my therapist last night I determined that this is more then about "getting back" at them. I took many hours out of my life to help them out and I have a great deal of talent in photography. If they deny me the rights to my photos is like taking a piece of me away. I trusted that we would always be friends so I would always have access to the photos so I didn't worry about it...well I guessed wrong! Back in the spring I talked about this very issue with Mandy and she said that I could have the negatives back and I took some with me that day. I have about 1/4 of the negatives (but I am not going to share that with them because I doubt she remembers that I took them).

I know they were horrible people when I got the "Dear John" letter now I know I can do without them. They are very lucky that they got so much for almost nothing...if they had a professional photographer take all the photos that I took they would get a bill for at least a couple hundred dollars a pop!! (AT LEAST)

By the way here is their website: WillowWind Stables I took the front page photo of the rearing horse, all of the photos except for Grainnes & the top Lane photo on the "Mares" page, all the photos under the title "Stallion Expo" (all the way to the bottom of the page) on the stallion page.

That's your name listed as photo credit? Then if they're admitting that you took the picture, why not allow you access to the negatives?

Gorgeous photo, by the way!

Hee, hee - we could flood their in-box asking who took all the wonderful pictures!

Good idea! By the way on the Mares Page there is a picture of me on Blaithin. I am the rider under under her "head" shot on the right side of the page. By the way for all the complements it really means alot. Now you guys can see why I am fighting so hard to get the negatives back!

Re: My negatives, their pictures...any advice for me (website added)

If you've decided not to persue this any further, I don't want to push you in the other direction. But if your name is on the photos (which are terrific) and they didn't pay you for your service, I think you have some recourse here. Now since they paid for film and processing, they might have the right to the negatives (sorry) especially since it is of their horses. But you might still be able to get a fee out of it for taking the photos. Just a thought.
I think these folks did you wrong, and you are probably well shuck of them. I suggest going out and taking some more of these FANTASTIC photos! Then be sure to post them so we can all admire them.
