As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Maine, anyone?
Unfortunately, I can't help you with that one. I have'nt been, but it sure sounds like a great place to be. Especially in the fall.
Have a wonderful trip.

We haven't been up there recently enough to suggest a place but there are some really cool old homes up there. When in September are you going?

Re: Maine, anyone?
I was in Boothbay Harbor many years ago. It is a beautiful area. I cannot recommend a place to say, as I don't really remember where we stayed! Are you a member of AAA? If so, you can go to your AAA office and request a Maine travel guide that should list all of the places to stay. You may also want to contact Boothbay Harbors chamber of commerce. Usually, they will send you any information you want free of charge.

Re: Maine, anyone?
I went to AAA and got a few hotel recommendations and also on the Boothbay Harbor website. I finally found one (September is the time for the leaf watchers, so they were scarce). Got my airfare through Southwest and a rental car too, so now I have to figure out what to see and do before and after the wedding reception!

Re: Maine, anyone?
We are leaving Sept 24 through the 26. The kids (12 & 13)will spend the weekend with school friends so we can take them to school Friday morning and head straight to the airport in Baltimore. We'll be home in time for dinner with them on Sunday (love those one hour flights). We are flying into Manchester, New Hampshire and will drive up I95 to Route 1 through Portland and Freeport till we get to Boothbay Harbor.

Re: Maine, anyone?
Take a jacket and a raincoat because it gets chilly and wet in September!!!
We just moved from Brunswick, ME (30 miles from Boothbay) last summer. BEAUTIFUL area!!! We liked to take whale watching trips in Boothbay Harbor (not sure if they are closed for the season in Sept. or not) . . . lots of cute little shops to look through as well as some good restaurants!!! (We enjoyed the Fisherman's Wharf Inn Restaurant and for some quick seafood in a quirky place, The Lobster Dock. Also worth a "stop in" is the Downeast Ice Cream (and Yogurt) Factory for an ice cream!) You also could go see Fort Popham in the Brunswick/Bath area and if you like outlet shopping (and can stand a lot of walking) Freeport is a town of nothing but outlet stores!!! Be sure to stop into L.L. Bean!!!
I can help with things to do but sorry that I can't help much with hotels, though!!!
Here is a link to the Boothbay Harbor Chamber of Commerce . . . it might help a little bit . . .
Hope you have a great time up there!!!

Re: Maine, anyone?
I got us a room at Browns Wharf Inn. My chiropractor recommended Moody's Diner as one place to visit, so I found their website and printed out a map already. I think Freeport is on Route 1, north of Portland, on the way to Boothbay? I plan on stopping there, even if I have to overtake the steering wheel! I am thinking we might come up again with the kids another time.

Oh that'll be a GORGEOUS drive for you!! If you have time LL Bean's outlet is in Freeport and I don't think Arcadia National Park is that far from Boothbay Harbor either? Actually, there's also a couple of Bean outlets in NH but the only one I'm familiar with is on the MA/NH border and I am geographically challenged so I dunno how far off that would be for ya.

Re: Maine, anyone?
I would go to the Bean's in Freeport -- it is the original one and is HUGE!!! There is also a Bean's OUTLET store and an L.L. Kids store, that carries nothing but kids clothing and fleece. If you don't buy anything else, at least get postcards
Acadia is about 2 hours drive from Brunswick, so maybe an hour and a half or so from Boothbay . . . worth a day trip if you have enough time!!! If you decide to do that . . . do a map from Boothbay Harbor to Bar Harbor. It really isn't hard to get there as long as you follow the directions!!! Acadia is especially gorgeous in the fall when the foliage is turning . . . we made special trips up there just to see it . . . we also found it to be a little chillier up there compared to further south where we lived then as well!!!

Re: Maine, anyone?
I love this area so much!! I would definitely make the trip to the Freeport LL Bean. Much cooler stuff and a much larger store in general. I always find awesome stuff really cheap there.
I have an uncle that makes the trip up there a few times a year just to eat at Moody's. He says you can't go wrong there. Enjoy your trip and the wedding.

Re: Maine, anyone?
L.L. Bean is in Freeport on Route 1. Take I-95 to I-295 to Freeport and take the Desert Road Exit to Route 1. It's a really great place, and September is a beautiful time of year here. Sorry I don't have any hotel or B&B info. Hope you have a great time!

Re: Maine, anyone?
Thanks everyone! I am so excited to go! I really love LL Bean, so I think we might stop on the way up the coast AND on the way back. A friend of my husband is getting married (second time around). He's in his 50's and she is too, only she's never been married before. They are both retired, so it's going to be a "mature" wedding, but at the same time, they've spared no expense. Her mother is having a Lobster Bake for the rehersal dinner, and all out of town guests are invited. That's why I booked early flights so we'd have time to look around before dinner!
