As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Ebay vent - LONG
Grrrr... I am livid right now! On Feb 11 I bought the Haunted Mansion clue game off of someone on Ebay. I paid with PayPal right after the auction closed; about a week ago I realized I hadn't gotten the item. So I emailed the seller and got an auto response saying that all items would be shipped Saturday or Monday. OF WHAT WEEK?! So I sent another email and said that the auto response was very vague, it had been a few weeks and I haven't gotten my game, and I've never left a negative feedback for anyone and don't want to, I just want my merchandise that with s&h I spend over $50 on (I know, I know, I should have just ordered it from Disney mechandise ). I got a response saying that she has to depend on her daughter to take her to the post office. Then you shouldn't be selling stuff on ebay if you can't keep up your end! And her feedback profile has been made private, but at one point it was public, and about a week after I bought from her, negative comments started rolling in from people who never got their item. She turned around and left negative feedback for anyone that left a negative feedback for her! And her response for most of them was, 'you should have gotten the insurance.' So I knew what was coming. Finally, after trying to email her a few more times, I left negative feedback, and sure enough she left one for me saying that I should have gotten the insurance. I emailed her again and told her that it is very unprofessional and immature to transact business like this and I just want a refund. Insurance is for shipping problems, not for the seller's decision to not ship! And she never did say that she shipped, just that I should have bought insurance! I have yet to hear back from her.
Has anyone else had a problem buying from someone on ebay? Anyone ever taken action? I buy on ebay all the time with no trouble at all, until now.

Re: Ebay vent - LONG
Unfortunately, there isn't a lot you can do. If it's before 30 days, you can file a complaint with Paypal. They will investigate it for you (and I think refund you the money if there is a valid problem..not sure on that though). Other than that, there isn't much you can do.
I always gave the buyer a month to get an item to me. I think in the general rules for sellers, that's how long ebay says it's ok to send out a package. If they don't get it to me, I give them negative feedback (unless they have contacted me and explained the situation).

Re: Ebay vent - LONG
I just issued a complaint with PayPal since it's just under 30 days. I think with Ebay you have to wait until 30 days have passed. I'd rather get my money back and then complain to ebay later. At least I'm not the only one that this person seems to be taking advantage of, so my complaint should hold water. I always give the seller the benefit of the doubt, and they have always been cooperative and communicative. Not this one! So hopefully PayPal can get me my money back.

Re: Ebay vent - LONG
Good luck! I hope you get your money back. I had a bad experience once on EBay. I put a bid in on some fabric from a seller. Well, I lost the auction but the next day I got an e-mail from this seller saying the top bidder on the auction had backed out. She asked me if I would still like to buy the fabric. I had really liked it so I agreed and sent in the money. I can't remember now though if I used Paypal or not. Anyways three weeks or so went by and I still hadn't received the fabric. I emailed the seller who didn't respond. I emailed again and received a note saying the fabric had been shipped so she didn't know what had happened. She offered to re-send the order IF she still had some of that fabric. I emailed her back saying that I would like the fabric still especially since I paid for it! Well that was the last I heard from that seller. I never received the fabric and she never returned any more of my emails. I couldn't go through Ebay at that point because it was technically a transaction outside of Ebay. Thankfully I wasn't out much money, but I learned a valuable lesson. NEVER engage in a transaction outside of Ebay. The seller had seemed sincere enough, but I'm thinking she had a scam going. I wonder how many other people she did the same thing to! Anyways, keep us posted on what happens!

Amy,
Who was that seller. I usually check on the seller's feedback, but a heads up for all of us that might be buying Disney stuff would certainly stave off trouble. Sorry you had trouble.

Re: Ebay vent - LONG
Ugh, there's always that one person who ruins the bunch. I would say 99% of my transactions on ebay have been great, but I've had a few....I have 2 negative feedback from people....1 was a "mistake"..she said she would try to get Ebay to take it off...never happened, of course. The other one never got her book I sold on half.com for $1.95. She left me negative feedback even though I informed her media mail can take up to a month, esp. to CA, where she was from. Oh, well. She probably received it a few days after that and felt like a jerk. I hope so. Hope you get your money back Amy.

Re: Ebay vent - LONG
Well, the seller responded to the paypal action I took - she gave them a shipping number through USPS, but they couldn't confirm the delivery with it. When I checked my email, I had an auto-send shipping confirmation from her (when I already told her that I just wanted a refund!) and it had a note from seller: "You're a real piece of work. I'm making sure this one gets to you." That just totally freaked me out and I'm not going to want to open the package if and when it arrives. I don't like this scary person having my address. The same item was listed several more times by her. I wish her feedback profile was public because I want to see if those who didn't get their packages had bid on the same thing. And she cancelled her registration with ebay, but I searched for one of the items she was selling just yesterday and it's listed by someone brand new with similar instructions about insurance ("optional on some items, but if not purchased buyer is responsible for any problems" - it doesn't say "shipping problems" just any problems in general) . And she's keeping the bidder's identities private, just like before. It's got to be her. She never said the other one shipped, and I still can't get her to say that she did. I guess she's nuts but not a liar. Now I'm not going to get my money back and I'm getting something that I don't even want anymore. C'est la vive!

You're the piece of work? That lady better look in the mirror. What a quack. I hope it actually arrives and is actually what you ordered. It'll probably be Disneyland Monopoly after all that!!!

Re: Ebay vent - LONG
My God. That sucks, Amy. My boyfriend had a similar problem where he bought a flat panel monitor from a guy on ebay. After he sent the money, the guy sent him an email saying "Sorry, the item sold to a higher bidder." After Alex won the auction? He sold it again? Whatever. Same thing, the guy then cancelled his ebay registration and left Alex hanging. Alex did file a complaint at eBay (after a month), PayPal and SquareDeal, which used to be a kind of insurance thing on ebay. One of them, Square Deal I think, sent him $25 which was their max. I can't remember what happened with the eBay complaint, but I know he ended up losing money on the deal. He buys and sells a lot on eBay, and this was the only time this kind of thing happened. I'm sorry you're going through it.

Re: Ebay vent - LONG
Amy,
That is a shame After reading your initial post I was all ready to reply "FILE WITH PAY PAL, NOW" you will get results!! If the lady doesn't have delivery confirmation then pay pal will refund your money immediately.. but then I saw your second post. If they can't confirm shipping you will still get a refund.
BUT even after you receive the item & if it is in bad condition, you still have recourse with Pay Pal.. & can file an item is damaged report ( I think they call it something else) & you will get your money back as long as you return the item.. (& use delivery confirmation) I have made it a practice to ship EVERYTHING with delivery confirmation..
I hate dishonest sellers.. it gives those of us who try our best to bend over backward to please customers a bad rap..
Hope the item is in perfect condition & you get this resolved

Re: Ebay vent - LONG
Amy,
Sorry to hear about your problems with ebay. While most ebay transactions that I have made have been great, I did have one bad one at one point. After paying for an item, I never heard from the seller and never received the item. I believe that other people also must have had issues with this seller, because all of a sudden, she was suspended from ebay. I couldn't even leave feedback. Before I bid on the item, I did check the sellers feedback, and other than one negative (months before), the feedback was all good. I contacted ebay, and while they did give me some advice, there wasn't much anyone could do as the purchase was under $25.00. I just kind of shrugged it off. I continue to buy off ebay, and luckily, I have not had any other problems. Have you tried to contact your credit card company since you did use paypal?
Good Luck.
