As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi everyone! I burn really easily in Ohio sun so I can only imagine what would happen at WDW. I can never seem to find a good suntan lotion that is not sticky-feeling and that doesn't smell like "suntan lotion." What good brands do you use?
I bought "Block Up!" SPF 45 plus. It is made by Fruit of the Earth. I bought a 12oz. bottle from Wal-Mart for about $4.00!
I have used this brand for the past 2 years, and I have been very happy with it.
They have a website, it is: Fruit of the Earth

We like the Coppertone Sport Ultra Sweatproof - 30 either spray or gel. It isn't lotiony and greasy like the No-Ad - the lotions make me feel all hot and sweaty even before I go outside! It works too! We went down for a week in FL this summer - I thought we'd get cooked, but we were all fine, and Amanda & I usually burn quite easily.
We applied before we left the resort, so that it had a chance to soak in, then brought a small size on a carabiner (refilled daily) on my belt loop to reapply throughout the day. Worked like a charm!
I just discovered Neutrogena Dry Touch Sunblock (I think that's what it's called)-it comes in 30 SPF and 45. It's wonderful! It feels dry after about 10 seconds.
Having lived most of my life in Ohio, and a few adult years in Texas, I would advise at least SPF 30 (and make sure you have sunglasses). The sun is very intense, meaning you will burn easily. In Texas, I also found the lighting to be especially bright at sunset, enough so that my eyes watered at times. Given that Houston and Orlando are about the same in terms of distance from the equator, I am guessing the sun factor would be about the same.
Coppertone makes a new formula of sunscreen. It is called Spectra3. With UVA/UVB protection it offers triple protection. We use the 30SPF and swear by this lotion!
I have to agree with Debi- and recommend Spectra3 by Coppertone- I use the Water Babies version - SPF 50 because my skin is sensitive, and I have not even been red. My daughter who has fair skin and red hair can use this also and not burn.
It also does not have a strong 'suntan lotion' smell. It is very light!
I like the coppertone sport myself, and the 8 is great for me since I have darker skin and I don't burn easily. Plus I do want to get that tan look when I go away ( I know it is bad, but I am one of those sun worshipers, I can't help it) with out the burn. On the kids we use Waterbabies, I think it is a 45, and I love the way it smells on the kids. It reminds me of vacation! And we always "Grease Up" before leaving our room. I use Bath and Body works suntan lotion. In 2001 when we went down, I got a sun rash on my chest for I didnt use any suntan lotion in the Florida sun! MY bad! Last year I did there but didnt use it around my ankles where my socks ended and got burnt there instead! So I guess my word to the wise is to make sure that you put it on when you go to the parks. Maybe this year I will learn.....nah!
My kids are super picky about fragrances and "sticky" feeling sunscreens. I found a product at Cub (grocery store) and it's great. It's called Bull Frog sunblock, Quikgel Sport Spray. It's a 36 sunblock that sprays on. It feels more like a bug spray than a sun screen. Last year I found it at either Target or Walmart but didn't see it there a couple of weeks ago when I needed to buy more. Maybe I waited too long into the summer season. I had to buy it at Cub and it's more expensive there.
I was really nervous using it for the first time. I put it on myself vs. the kids because it just seemed too good to be true. It works great though! My kids are blond hair/blue eyes and DS2 burns easily. Bull Frog is wonderful. They don'tcomplain at all. It's so convient to just spray it on vs. lathering them up with a lotion. For their faces, I just spray some on my fingertips and wipe it on their faces.
It says "all day waterproof and sweatproof UVA/UVB protection. Dries instantly." We were out in the sun yesterday, in 92 degree heat, sweating up a storm at a festival. I sprayed the kids at 9:00 a.m. and we came home at 4 p.m. Not one spot of red on either of them. We've used it a WDW in August, too, and only reapply it after swimming because I'm paranoid!
Give it a try! (No - I don't own stock in the company or get paid for endorsements, ha, ha.)
i have coppertone sport gel. it isn't sticky, doesn't smell yucky and seems to work well on my kids ( i'm another story) i just have to be out in the sun 3 seconds and i start to get red, not burn, just my skin gets red but more than an hour and i could have sunblock 75 on and i would still burn. i'm a firm believer in reappying often no matter what the bottle says. every couple hours i have the sunblock out slathering myself and the kids. you can pick my kids out of 1000 kids in a park cause they are the white ones lol
