Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I bet Jacko is thankful for the Crocodile Hunter...

Because now it seems the media frenzy has switched from him to the story of the Crocodile Hunter (Steve Irwin) holding his one-month son while he fed a crocodile. Folks are in an uproar in Austrailia about it. Here's a story I read on Yahoo:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ocodile_hunter

They are comparing it to Michael Jackson dangling his baby on the balcony!

I can't believe Steve Irwin actually did this. He's always telling you how unpredictable crocodiles are.

Comparing him to Michael Jackson ? ?

Well, it doesn't surprise me and I bet he did it with his Daughter too. After all he knows the Crocs and would only do it if he knew it was safe. His wife was right there and he has a team to watch after himself and anyone else in the pen. After all the camera man was in there too. So there was all is works telling him were the Croc was at all times. I would rather have Steve take a child in with crocs then have Michael child sit.

I tend to agree, though I'd not put my child in that situtation, but I'm not a crocodile expert. I don't handle them everyday. And I'm not raising children in close proximity to crocodiles. I, on the other hand, was raised in a home with guns, where everyone hunted, and my step-dad rarely remembered to lock the gun cabinet. We grew up with a healthy respect for what a gun can do and managed not to kill myself or my brother. I don't see how this was any different. It's not like he was dangling the baby ala Jacko over the croc's enclosure fence. Then, I could see being up in arms. Who among us would hand-feed a crocodile? Very few. I think Steve Irwin knows the risks better than anyone else and too many people are too worried about how others are parenting and not enough about themselves and their own children. This, to me, got blown way out of proportion.

I think he probably knew what he was doing and was taking appropriate precautions. However, as a celebrity, he should always be aware that the camera is watching! I am sure he's learned his media lesson after this little fiasco.

Both of them are morons, but I guess I consider Jackson to be more of a threat to children than the crocodile. What a freak!

Yup...I think both cases were bad judgement errors.

Re: I bet Jacko is thankful for the Crocodile Hunter...

WHAT WAS HE THINKING? I love his show and I love to watch the interaction w/his wife and children, but REALLY! I know he knows what he is doing, but does the crocodile respect the fact that its a beautiful baby, or does he see an after lunch snack?

I would hope that he uses better judgement in the future, but like Chrissi, I was raised in a police officers home that had guns. I had to reload bullets, clean guns, shot them(when I was older) at the police firing range. WHY? So that we would lose any interest in playing w/a gun. It worked like a charm. We grew up w/immense respect for what a gun can do and neither my brother or I was EVER tempted to mess around w/a gun. IM sure that he does something similar w/his children so that they have a healthy respect for crocs, snakes, spiders, etc.

We are a hunting home and while we dont have guns in the house(kept at the base armory) until we get a gun safe, both of my children have been raised the same way, in order to have a very healthy respect for a gun and what it can do if you screw around w/it. I guess if we lived their life, I would make sure they were around the reptiles and that they grew a healthy respect for them, but not at 1 month old.

I don't care how well he knows crocs, it was very poor judgement on his part! Doesn't the guy from "Siegfried & Roy" know tigers and look what happened to him! Why would he want to chance that with his child !

This was my first thought too!! All animals can be unpredictable and I can't believe that he would have his newborn son that near to the croc!

Re: I bet Jacko is thankful for the Crocodile Hunter...

What a discussion this thread has opened, Michelle

I tend to agree with Marcie on this one. When I saw the footage, I was not horrified. On the other hand, I do see why others would be. I wasn't there, so I don't know all the precautions that were taken and probably always are every time he's around the crocs. But crocs are and always will be unpredictable animals. May have been a bad judgment call, but I'm sure he doesn't think it was. That is what he does for a living.

Re: I bet Jacko is thankful for the Crocodile Hunter...

Irwin will NOT be facing charges. Child Protective Services (or whatever they call it in Australia) has talked to Irwin and his family, and the matter is officially closed.

About this incident, Steve says:

"If I could have my time again I would probably do things a little differently," he said. "But I would be considered a bad parent if I did not teach my children crocodile savvy because they live here. They live in crocodile territory ... so they have to be croc savvy."

I tend to agree...Steve and his wife Teri live an exceptional life with extarodinary expieriences...it would be worse to not ready his children for what they may face in the future. To think these children will never be exposed to crocs or any other wildlife is unrealistic. I think he will do a fine job readying them for the adventure filled lives they have ahead of them.
