As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

thumbs up or down
I'm still trying to decide what I want to try new this trip (I always try a new ride/attraction in every park) Here is my list of never dones & I'd like for all of you to give it a thumbs up or down & your opinion... ( I think this could turn into fun !) I'm also addding my reasoning why I've never done them as well.
Magic Kingdom:
* Astro Orbiter ( DD tried this last trip for the first time & loved it but I'm afraid due to the heights)
* Barnstormer ( yes, I know a kiddy ride, but it seems so fast!)
* Magic Carpets of Aladdin ( see previous trip report of me being scared silly on Triceratops Spin)
* Main Street Vehicles ( just never wanted to wait)
*Space Mountain ( the height thing again)
*Tom Sawyer Island ( seems boring to me)
Epcot:
Future World:
*Universe of Energy (DS' must do this trip so I will defintely be doing this one)
World Showcase:
* Maelstrom ( I'm afraid of the backward drop.. is it really scary????)
& we've never gone into any of the movies in the countries except for American Adventure.. any must do's you would recommend ??
MGM:
*Sounds Dangerous ( I hate surprises)
* ToT ( the height fear again)
Animal Kingdom:
most of the reasons I haven't tried something here is this is our least favorite park & we don't stay around long enough * DH really isn't an AK fan at all. DH is doing the MK Backstage Magic tour on Friday & I was thinking of bringing the kids for EMH at AK & then try to see some of the stuff we've missed so I would really appreciate your opinion on these rides/attractions.
*Flights of wonder
* Maharaja Jungle trek
*Primeval whirl ( YUK! The heights thing again)
*Pocahontas & her forest friends
* Rafiki Planet Watch ( seems to just be a glorified petting zoo)
* Tarzan Rocks ( this is on our must do list this trip!)
OKay... now, I want to see a lot of responses here & I just might try the ride/attraction that gets the most thumbs up votes

Re: thumbs up or down
I found space mountian to be really uncomfortable because im tall and it was hard for me to get in and out of the vehicle. I prefer the one at Disneyland much more. I have to give Space Mt. a thumbs down for tall folks who maybe cant fold themselves into a pretzel very well!LOL!!
Is Maelstrom in Norway? If so I dont remember there being any backward drop. Found it pretty tame but entertaining, so thumbs up.
The 360 movie in Canada is beautiful, but if your feet hurt and youve been walking a lot, it is hard to stand up for the whole thing.
TOT was my FAV ride in all of the parks. If you dont like drops, you probably wont like the ride and it is suspensful because your never sure when your going to drop or how far, but it did seem like there were alot of little kids who LOVED it and wanted to go on again when they got off. I know my 9 and 12 year old loved it, so did my 37 year old who usually dosent like rides like that.
Animal Kingdom was my son's favorite park. None of the rest of us were all that impressed, so we didnt do much more than my son's must sees(we spent 1 day total, broken up over the week we were there). He LOVED the safari. We actually liked it quite a bit too, as our guides both times were very entertaining, as was my husband!LOL!!
If you have kids who like to ride a train and like petting zoo's then rafiki planet watch will be right up their alley. 9yoson liked it, 12 yodaughter thought it was so/so. dh waited outside most of the time and I talked to my mom on the phone while the kids went around!LOL!!
That's about it I guess. Hope you get lots of replies!

Re: thumbs up or down
idea, I'll chime in! I'll preface by saying that I'm definately not a height person either. (Dumbo can give me sweaty palms ) But, I've found these things worth at least a try.
Magic Kingdom:
* Barnstormer
* Magic Carpets of Aladdin
*Space Mountain (you don't even know if you're up high or not)
*Tom Sawyer Island (great break for overstimulated kids)
Epcot:
Future World:
*Universe of Energy (being Ellen fans, we all enjoyed this one)
World Showcase:
* Maelstrom (the "drop" is less unnerving than Pirates of the Carribean)
Animal Kingdom:
*Flights of wonder (Everyone LOVED this show)
*Primeval whirl (if you can handle spinning around a little bit)
* Rafiki Planet Watch (We were very pleased we tried this one-now it's a perennial favorite)

Re: thumbs up or down
If heights bother you, do NOT go on Astro Orbiter. It's like a very fast dumbo, only you're a couple of stories up. My fear of heights definitely kicked into high gear on this ride.
Primevil Whirl was great, though. The highest drop is only about 40 feet, I believe, and you feel completely safe. The spinning around the turns is great. We're going to do this a few times on our next trip.
As far as Space Mountain, my wife and I decided 10+ years ago that the ride then was our last time. It's the heights thing again.
Malestrom--The best part of this was hearing my wife SCREAM when she thought there was going to be a huge backward drop and seeing the people in front of us crack up at my wife's drama. It's a pretty tame ride.
Enjoy!

Re: thumbs up or down
*Astro Orbiter (I'm too chicken for this one, too!)
*Barnstormer (TOO SHORT for the line! 5yo DD was disappointed)
*Magic Carpets (not bad, kept the "carpet" lower and it was fun)
*Main Street Vehicles (I loved these and DDs did too when they were 5 and 7)
*Space Mountain (just rode it again and told DH that I never needed to do it again. Too much jerking ...heights not an issue)
*Tom Sawyer's (kids liked it, nice respite)
*Universe of Energy (I thought this was one of the few *improved* versions at Epcot since my trip 10 yrs ago. DDs really liked it and so did DH; didn't get to go a 2nd time, but definitely a must-do again)
*Maelstrom (yawn...and you don't really get wet)
*MGM (don't like it, don't go...blasphemous!!! )
*AK...didn't do any of the things on your list. DH and 7yo DD did Primeval Whirl and really enjoyed it, but I preferred "whack a mole" with 5yo! LOL!
Hope that helps!

Re: thumbs up or down
I haven't been on Barnstormer in a few years but I adored it. It was pretty tame. I love Space Mountain and I don't think it's that bad at all. The only thing that has me nervous on Space Mountain is it seems the tracks above your head are really close and at some points looks like you're going to hit them, but the distance is fine. I haven't done Tom Sawyers Island in awhile but I remembered it was really cute and I liked it.
The first time I did Universe of Energy was last December and I loved it! Be sure to get there in time to see the entire pre-show. Maelstrom is pretty tame except for one little drop that's nothing (think Pirates of the Caribbean). Make sure to stay for the movie after the ride. I love El Rio Del Tiempo and must do that every trip. If you have time, see the movie in France. It's a really beautiful movie.
ToT is one of my favorite rides in all WDW. The drop is about 13 stories so you have to be your own judge. If anyone else you are with is going to ride, get on line with them and see the pre-show and then deicide if you want to go, and if not, take the "chicken exit."
The Maharaja Jungle Trek is really enjoyable if it's not crowded, so depending on crowds, decide to walk through or not. Primevral Whirl isn't that high up and it's not that bad. I really didn't like Rafiki's Planet Watch. It was way too crowded and most of the things could be seen at the local zoo/petting zoo.

Re: thumbs up or down
Magic Kingdom:
* Astro Orbiter DH and I got lightheaded on this ride in 2000. I'd not go if you don't like heights * Barnstormer Never done it
* Magic Carpets of Aladdin Never been on it
* Main Street Vehicles Never done this either....didn't want to wait as well!
*Space Mountain SM is fun! Seeing as how you can't see the floor inside, I don't htink the heights are a big issue (for me at least)
*Tom Sawyer Island DH and I have a great time walking around here. It's a nice place to chill out for a while and get away from the crowds.
Epcot:
Future World:
*Universe of Energy MUST DO!!
World Showcase:
* Maelstrom I consider this a very tame ride IMHO.
MGM:
*Sounds Dangerous This is a lot of fun, but if you're not keen on surprises. I'm not sure how you'd like it.
* ToT I rode this once and may never do it again. I don't like the falling sensation..height here isn't my problem.
Animal Kingdom:
* Maharaja Jungle trek Very cool! Love seeing all the animals!
*Primeval whirl This is one of the funniest rides I've ever been on. We laughed the whole time! MUST DO! *Pocahontas & her forest friends
* Tarzan Rocks MUST DO!! MUST SEE TARZAN!!!! HE IS HUNKY!

Re: thumbs up or down
I love this idea - except I've not been on a lot of these rides either! I'll do my best:
Magic Kingdom:
* Astro Orbiter - never done this, but will this if it's not too busy and the wait's not too long
* Barnstormer - never done this
* Magic Carpets of Aladdin - never done this in WDW, but enjoyed it in DLP - it was very similar height wise to Dumbo. Will do it this time around.
* Main Street Vehicles - I love these, it's such a relaxing way to get up to the Castle and really takes you back into history. One of my fond memories of my 30th birthday is riding up front in one of the horse drawn vehicles.
*Space Mountain - never again after a bad experience on my first WDW trip!
*Tom Sawyer Island - we did this in 2002 and it was really fun. There was a lot more to do than we expected.
Epcot:
Future World:
*Universe of Energy - this is great, very educational without being boring.
World Showcase:
* Maelstrom - the backward drop isn't scary at all, if you know it's there! I forgot last time! I love this ride and for us, it's a must-do.
We did the films in Canada and France last time and enjoyed both, although I wouldn't necessarily go and see them everytime we go.
MGM:
*Sounds Dangerous - never done this, but planning to next time
* ToT - never done this
Animal Kingdom:
*Flights of wonder - never done this, but planning to next time
* Maharaja Jungle trek - we really enjoy this, the tigers are wonderful animals
*Primeval whirl - never done this, thinking about it
*Pocahontas & her forest friends - we saw this in 2000 and we left halfway through, we were so bored with it. Not something we'd do again...
* Rafiki Planet Watch - this is really interesting and something of a sleeper attraction
* Tarzan Rocks - not one of our favourites, but I know it's a hit with most people, so maybe we'll try it again next time

Re: thumbs up or down
Hi Ann - Here's my take on the things you haven't tried!
Magic Kingdom:
* Astro Orbiter - we haven't done this one yet, since it's basically a clone of other amusement park rides, and the line seems to ALWAYS be long!
* Barnstormer- While I enjoy roller coasters - I didn't like this one - the seats are molded, and designed for 5 year old bottoms, and I felt like I was going to fly out!
* Magic Carpets of Aladdin - like this just fine - it's your basic Dumbo clone, but a must do for our Jasmine fanatic!
* Main Street Vehicles - never done these either.
*Space Mountain - Love Space Mountain, you don't feel that high up, since it is dark, and they have a good restraint system. It is very bumpy - especially on the left side, in my opinion. Go for the right side if you can, and decide to try it. It is a Disney classic!
*Tom Sawyer Island ( seems boring to me) - I agree, it is boring! We've done it 3 times, and especially on a hot day, it's just not worth the time, IMHO.
Epcot:
Future World:
*Universe of Energy (DS' must do this trip so I will defintely be doing this one) - We like this one, but it is TIME consuming - at least 45 minutes just for the attraction. I found the new movie part with Ellen to be VERY Long - They could have cut this much shorter! The dinosaur part is great though.
World Showcase:
* Maelstrom ( I'm afraid of the backward drop.. is it really scary????) - This is a really tame drop - on the POTC style, not scary at all! This is a favorite of all my girls, and you should stay and watch the movie at least once - it's kind of neat to see the real Norway.
& we've never gone into any of the movies in the countries except for American Adventure.. any must do's you would recommend ?? = We've done most of them at least once - John really enjoyed the China one, but we haven't seen it since it was redone - Sarah and I both loved the Impressions de France, and it is in a very comfortable sit down theater, unlike most of the other country's stand up movies.
MGM:
*Sounds Dangerous ( I hate surprises) = this is really pretty tame - you could just take off your headphones if you don't like it.
* ToT ( the height fear again) - While I loved this attraction - you are up there - may be a skip for you if you have trouble with heights.
*Flights of wonder - never seen it - John doesn't like birds much.
* Maharaja Jungle trek - Sarah's favorite - she loves the tigers and the bats, but my kids are big animal lovers!
*Primeval whirl ( YUK! The heights thing again) - the height didn't bother me, but it DOES spin!
*Pocahontas & her forest friends - cute, but just okay
* Rafiki Planet Watch ( seems to just be a glorified petting zoo) - haven't bothered going here yet - seems to be for the really little kids from what I've read.
* Tarzan Rocks ( this is on our must do list this trip!) - We liked this one, great music (I'm a big Phil Collins fan), and Tarzan is fun eye candy for us girls!

Re: thumbs up or down
Magic Kingdom:
* Astro Orbiter - never tried, I think I'd get dizzy (sick)
* Barnstormer = on my to-do list
* Magic Carpets of Aladdin - same as Dumbo so if you don't like that, I'd skip it
* Main Street Vehicles ( just never wanted to wait)- same here
*Space Mountain -believe it or not, it made me a little motion sick
*Tom Sawyer Island - fun to see once, but I saw it through the eyes of my kids who thought it was great fun. I'm still glad I saw it though.
Epcot:
Future World:
*Universe of Energy - fun to try once. I liked the preshow, too.
World Showcase:
* Maelstrom drop isn't scarey. IT's a very short ride.
& we've never gone into any of the movies in the countries except for American Adventure.. never done any either, just never enough time in our day!
MGM:
*Sounds Dangerous kind of fun, much more tame that I anticipated but if you have kids who don't like the dark, don't take them.
* ToT - I get scared to death on it but I love it!
Animal Kingdom-
*Flights of wonder-trying in March.
* Maharaja Jungle trek - DS1 loves it, DS2 is bored. It's fun to see once. The murals and scenery are absolutley beautiful.
*Primeval whirl - too afraid of motion sickness to try
*Pocahontas & her forest friends - DH and DS2 saw it, said so-so
* Rafiki Planet Watch ( seems to just be a glorified petting zoo) I wasn't impressed by the petting zoo but DS 1 could have spent hours reading and trying the exhibits. DS 2 was bored. I think with so many things at AK, if you're into animals and nature, you'll love the park.
* Tarzan Rocks - one of our family favorites!

Re: thumbs up or down
Hi Ann: Here are my thimbs up:
In the MK - Goofy's Barnstormer - was the first Rooler coaster my kids ever rode (that includes Kennywood). If the Chickens are working in the Barn it is really cute and if your lucky Goofy will be hangin around.
In Epcot - the Maelstrom is really neat. The backwards drop (which you can see from the hole in the wall outside the ride) is not bad. My DW who gets sick just looking at a roller coaster loves this ride. Also try to find the hidden mickey in the painting on the wall as you get on the boat for the ride.
In MGM - Tower of Terror is really fun, you dont get a chance to really know that you are up high. But if you don't like going up and down in the dark......
In AK - Tarzan Rocks will have you singing the rest of the day and have you two boys jumping thier bikes and roolerblades off of everything when you get home. Sit near the inside stairways about 2/3 the way back for the best view and chance for the singers to sit with you during the show.
Good lucka nd Remember the Magic. Jerry

Re: thumbs up or down
I'm known as Queen Chicken - don't like scary rides, and especially didn't like SM. Too much hurky-jerky movement for me, and if you don't like heights, stay the heck off TOT!
As for some of the others you mentioned, Aladdin's Carpets was very cute, not too high, and you should like it very much. Forget Astro Orbiter, and Tom Sawyer's Island is charming but I found it a bit boring, too.
At Epcot, Universe of Energy is a 45-minute experience, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Especially the beginning with Ellen - don't miss it. Maelstrom is lots of fun, and I heartily recommend it. Not a bad drop at all, just enough excitement for us chickies out there.
MGM - once again, if heights, and the fear thereof, bother you, please stay away from this one. Lots of drops, and you never know when they'll occur.
AK is one of my favorite parks, but I haven't had a chance yet to try Tarzan Rocks or the Pocohontas show. They don't interest me very much, especially after reading some rather luke warm reviews of the same. Maharaja Jungle Trek and Flights of Wonder are both great, and this next trip I'm going to work up the courage to try Primeval Whirl. Sometimes you just gotta screw up the nerve to try something a little more exciting than you're used to!

That's what I keep telling myself. I swear this trip I AM going to try Splash Mountain and Big Thunder RR. Just call me "Queen Chicken II."

Re: thumbs up or down
Magic Kingdom:
* Astro Orbiter - I give this one a thumbs down only because I hate elevators, and you have to take one up to get on the ride. Ugh.
* Barnstormer - Very tame coaster. Give it a shot!
* Magic Carpets of Aladdin - Fun, with a few surprises. Keep it in the lower position, and you should be fine.
* Main Street Vehicles - I'd pass on these...not worth the wait.
*Space Mountain - If it's height only that bothers you with this, you might want to give this a try. It's dark inside, so you don't see how high you are. This one does give the feeling of going fast though.
Epcot:
Future World:
*Universe of Energy - We finally did this one this past summer...and I came out wondering why we had never visited it before. Check it out!
World Showcase:
* Maelstrom - No worries on the backward drop on this...trust me! And stay for the movie afterward...we loved it!
We've never gone into any of the movies in the countries except for American Adventure.. any must do's you would recommend ?? See above!
MGM:
*Sounds Dangerous - I actually found this one incredibly boring.
* ToT - If you have a fear of heights, this might not be for you. (Then again, I hate elevators but LOVE this ride!)
Animal Kingdom:
*Flights of wonder - Take it or leave it. I'd try something else out instead.
* Maharaja Jungle trek - We enjoyed this. Missed it our first trip to AK...haven't missed it since our second trip.
* Rafiki Planet Watch - We love going out here...mostly in hopes of catching a glimpse of the vets in action. They have a mini-hospital and vet office area. You can see through large ceiling to floor windows. Very interesting!
