As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

New, new AK coaster rumor
OK, now I'm thoroughly confused. From Screamscape (6/26/02)...
Quote:
...a major rumor that may form into a press release in the near future. We don’t know much at this point, but it seems that this will be the first “Mountain” attraction outside of a Magic Kingdom park. To be more specific, it sounds like this ride will be plopped down somewhere in the Asia area of the park and sounds as if it will be a heavily themed Mine Train coaster ride in and out of a giant mountain.
|
<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">This comes out of nowhere. Have never seen even a whisper of this one and yet there's the implication that a press release is forthcoming. Could they be announcing both this and Beastly Kingdom? Now that would be something.

Re: New, new AK coaster rumor
Well, there's no doubt that AK could be expanded. Another land and another e-ticket ride would be a big step towards doing just that. Of course there are rumors about Australia, too.

Re: New, new AK coaster rumor
Reading this and other rumors about possible new / replacement / upgraded rides, I sometimes wonder to myself if Disney itself doesn't sometimes seed some of these rumors, then scope boards like this one to hear how Disney and theme park enthusiasts react... Kind of as a preliminary market research tool.
To this particular rumor, I still wonder to myself about how they'd incorporate something like this into the AK park, situating it such that the noise and "eye pollution" would be inconspicuous to guests and, more importantly, the animals. Whatever it'll be, I think it's safe to say it won't be a mammoth outdoor coaster (a la "Incredible Hulk" and such). Such a ride would be completely out of place in a park like AK. As they've said numerous times, they're not in the business of competing with the likes of Six Flags and Universal; their audiences and goals are completely different.
...and yes, I'm an active ACE member - I do love big, wild, fast, hair-raising coasters! Disney's strengths, though, are in theming and ambience, not in scaring the tar out of people. They're smart enough to know their strengths and play to 'em.

Re: New, new AK coaster rumor
This is a gettin a little out there but...
Quote:
Screamscape has learned that a meeting for upper management was held not long ago where they talked about a “Yeti” coaster project for Asia, with the queue entrance to be placed along the ‘pathway to nowhere’ right before the Kali River entrance. Seems this may be yet another comparison to the Disneyland Matterhorn which also features a “Yeti” and “Abominable Snowman” inside.
|
<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Sounds abominable alright Throw in Cornelius, the dentist elf and that train with the square wheels and we got the Land of the Misfit Toys.
If they wanna do something new in Asia it's gotta be Indiana Jones or Jungle Book. If anything, those are the two I'd like to see.
I'm sure Disney does float ideas for reaction. Though floating rumors about new projects can come back to haunt you. Controlling rumors can be tough, and if people start expecting something in particular (Beastly Kingdom) then you may just have to build it
What I think happens more often is that Disney has hundreds of projects in some level of development at all times. No idea ever gets discarded, it's just on hold. But, at some point, at a meeting somewhere, every "idea" gets it's day in the sun. And some ideas (monorail expansion) get highlighted semiregularly at some meeting somewhere. And when they do, it leaks out and we hear about it.
So tracking these Disney rumors is not as much about the specific rumors but more about the patterns of the ideas over time. The message from evrything we've been reading lately being, something big is coming to AK. Be it abominable or not

Re: New, new AK coaster rumor
I think AK could use another "ride" attraction. Or something to keep you busy a full day. I would like to see another area with some North American animals: bear, moose, etc.

Re: New, new AK coaster rumor
Michelle - you're absolutely right: it needs North American animals! I'm not sure how happy moose would be in tropical Florida, though...
<snort!> Island of Misfit Toys <cough! sputter!> ROFLMAO! That is too funny, Matt. Youre right: they need an Indiana Jones attraction - and how 'bout one they haven't done at DL, DL/Paris or DisneySea? Wouldn't that be great?
You're right: I'm sure they never, ever discard an idea... although, on a backstage tour of AK last October, they took us through the halls of some of the offices and there, on a length of wall, were some of the sketches and "artists impressions" paintings for AK. The guide explained to us that these illustrations are the few that they were able to salvage from destruction Apparently the Disney artists are a prolific bunch and Disney simply can't afford to index, catalog and retain it all - there's simply too much Stuff. He said they destroy it - I honestly don't recall if that means they incinerate it or recycle it... I'd like to believe the latter, of course, but am thoroughly prepared to believe the former (call me Eeyore).

Re: New, new AK coaster rumor
I remember reading on one of the other boards about projects that never happened. This sounds a little like the mine train coaster that was suppossed to be in place of splash mountain and big thunder mountain. Who knows though. I just hope Beastly Kingdom Comes to be soon!!

Re: New, new AK coaster rumor
Screamscape update:
Quote:
Forbidden Mountain - (8/25/02) We received word from one insider that the new coaster project in Asia may still be moving forward, and could possible break ground in the first half of 2003 in time to open by 2005. They also claim that this mountain themed attraction could be the tallest mountain of all.
|
<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">So much waffling on the AK rumors so who knows. "Groundbreaking" sounds a little more promising though.
Gotta have something new in the works after Mission: Space opens. It might as well be this. Yup, bring it on!

Re: New, new AK coaster rumor
Sounds interesting. Would be neat to have an erupting volcano like they have at Toyko DisneySea with the "Journey to the Center of the Earth" inside!
