Scottsdale, Sedona, Grand Canyon??? About This Page:

OK, I won a second Ready Set Go auction @ Sky Auction that has to be used by 5/28/04. I was playing aroudn to see what they had to choose from. Possibilities in Arizona are Scottsdale, Phoenix, Sedona. I think the Grand Canyon (south rim) is only a 2 hr drive from Sedona; is that right??? Anyone stayed in any of these places?

Right now, the only openings are in December, but maybe something will come up in either April or May. I sure wouldn't mind fying into Phoenix and renting a car to drive somewhere! I know GC is a good ways from Phoenix, so I'm not leaning in that direction of staying there. Would Sedona work to get me close to GC? What's the weather like in April or May? Wold it be better to fly into Phoenix or Flagstaff> Sure wish i ahd some atlas software [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img] . I could look it up on the web, but then I'd have to leave here [img]images/icons/tongue.gif[/img] .

Woo hoo! A week in Arizona for the little I paid sounds like a deal!

I think AZ is a beautiful state to travel around. Phoenix is the least appealing place in the whole state. Sedona wouldbe my first choice. It is so beautiful. The rock and clay all around that area is red. Youcan go on some jeep trips thru the desert. There are some very nice side trips from Sedona. GC is about two hours away. I'd suggest that you head over to Williams to catch the old-time train to the GC. It is goregoreous weather in all but the summer months.
Tuscon would be my second choice.
If you want more info just Private Message me. I lived in AZfor three years and traveled everywhere. The only thing I missed was London Bridge.

I've been to Arizona the last two February's. Last time we stayed in the Phoenix area (Fountain Hills) and took several side trips including Sedona, Grand Canyon, Tucson, and Tombstone. I agree with my buddy Joe that Sedona is absolutely a must-see. It is gorgeous. If you don't mind driving, my recommendation would be to stay in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and make Sedona and the GC a side-trip.

We drove from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon with a stop in Sedona. (Be sure to eat at the Coffee Pot restaurant in Sedona - home of 101 omlettes.) Possibly take in a Pink Jeep tour of the area. Sedona is famous for it's vortex's and there is a lot of new age spiritual stuff there if you are into that. I am not, but I really enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

The GC is about 2 hours away from Sedona. We stayed overnight. There is a cluster of hotels about 1 mile outside the park entrance. I bid on a 3-star Best Western on Expedia (??) and was very pleased. If all you wanted to do was to see the GC than flying into Flagstaff would be your best bet, but there is so much more to see in Arizona.

If you are a shopper, Scottsdale is the place for you! There is the Old Town area which has lots of quanit little shops, and there are some GREAT malls and exclusive shopping areas. I went nuts at the Brighton store! Another Phoenix-area highlight is having lunch at Friday's at the Bank One Ballpark - BOB, as they call it - home to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The restaurant is open every day and overlooks the ballpark. We also like to spend some time around the ASU area in Tempe. Cute shops and a fun college-town atmosphere. A great outlet mall - Arizona Mills - is good for shopping and has a Rainforest cafe - one of my favorite. My son is into war planes and there were a couple of museums to go to. By the way, all these things (Scottsdale/Tempe/Mesa) are in the Phoenix metro area. If you like golfing you'll find PLENTY!!!!! Just be prepared for fees in the $75+ range.

South of Phoenix you'll find some interesting tourist spots. We absolutely loved Tombstone - it's the original Tombstone, sight of the gunfight at the OK corral. This is not a made-up western town, it is original. We spent the whole day there are my kids loved it. This is a good hour or so southeast of Tucson. If you don't want to go that far south there is "Old Tucson", which is a newly created Old West town with shows and shoot-outs, etc. Also around this are is a MinuteMan Missle Museum - a little dated but I found it interesting. The kids were bored silly.

I love Arizona, there is a lot to do. Oohhh, I would love to go in Scottsdale in December and do my Christmas shopping in shorts and sunglasses instead of heavy coats and chapstick!
