Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Off to Boston in the a.m.

Taking the shuttle from LGA to BOS tomorrow for 3 fun-filled days at an IT (information technology) summit. Definitely business, not pleasure. Not sure how I became our IT contact here at work; probably because I'm the only one not afraid of computers, although I have no formal training. I'm going to try to squeeze in some sight-seeing on my downtime, but I was there a few years ago, so I'd also be content to sit in my room, order room service and hang out at the pool. The summit is at the Westin Copely Place so I'm looking forward to trying out their "10 layer Heavenly Bed" - alone, though, DH has school and can't come with. Gonna miss him. That's going to be the hard part. I haven't been away without him in over two years and I don't sleep alone well anymore. I'll be back on Saturday afternoon.

Anyone ever stayed at the Westin Copely Place?

Wish me luck in not looking stupid - I looked over the list of attendees, they're all VP's or IT Managers, etc.

Re: Off to Boston in the a.m.

I know this is far too late now and you've already gone, but I've only just found your post, as our Internet connection was down this morning. I hope you have a great time in Boston, even if you are going their own business. I've got a very good friend there and I keep saying we'll go over and visit him, but we haven't managed it yet. I gather it's a great city.

Amy

I wish I had seen this sooner The area around the Westin is great! I love window shopping in Copley Plaza and the Prudential shops - hopefully you found time for that.

Let us know when you come back what you did while you were there (other than attending the summit )

Pam

Re: Off to Boston in the a.m.

Ok, a very belated update...

The Westin was great - incredible service from every hotel employee I encountered, and boy did I encounter some and need assistance from them...

Conference made me very sleepy... so the last day when we closed at 12:30 I ran up to my room to retrieve my mother whom I had brought along with me for some company. I had had a good night's sleep after maintenance sent me up some ear plugs (mom's snoring was too much for me to handle), the weather finally turned beautiful, and I was ready to seem some sights. Mom and I headed up the Freedom Trail, grabbed some Burger King, and continued on our trek. We got to Faniel Hall (sp?) and I spotted a store below and suggested we go in. Big mistake. Despite the warning about uneven stairs and low overhead, my mom proceeds to fall down the last step. No big deal she says, just give her a minute. I thought by looking at the immediate bruising and mis-shapen look to her ankle that it wouldn't be just a minute. So the EMT's show up about an hour later, take us to the Mass General ER (or what I believe was admitting for the psych ward - oy!), and about four hours later, we're on our way back to the hotel with her leg/ankle broken in 3 places and orders to go for surgery when she gets back home. Poor mom. She can't function on crutches, she seems to forget to put weight on her good foot. I told her if she needs to get up in the middle of the night, tap me with a crutch (earplugs, remember?). Well, I'm a light sleeper anyway, and can tell when there's movement in the room. I woke up at about 3am and she's on the floor. She didn't want to wake me. I almost had a heart-attack! She's since had her surgery and is pretty much bed-ridden for six weeks. She needed some sort of plate and some screws to put everything back together. The most amazing part? She's taken no pain meds.

When I have time I'll rant about the lack of chivalry at the Boston airport.

Re: Off to Boston in the a.m.

That is terrible Amy, sorry about your moms ankle. Hope she heals fast. As far as chivery in Boston, quite a few don't know the meaning of the word I am sad to say. There are some good ones, like all those here on the Boards that are here in Boston area.

Re: Off to Boston in the a.m.

Yep, my poor mommy.

So we get the airport the next morning and I've got her on crutches, two big carry on bags, two pocket books, two bottled beverages and a book I'm trying to carry. The cab driver didn't even help us out of the cab, just dropped our bags at the curb and stood by and waited while I tried to get my mom out of the car. Then we manage to get inside the automatic doors and there are two men who appear to be in their late 50's sitting on a bench by the door watching. I guess they thought my mom unsteady on her crutches and me carrying a bazillion things were the day's entertainment. You think they'd either offer to help or get us a cart or something. Nope. No skycaps, no airline employees, nothin. So finally I park my mom on a seat and struggle to the counter to check us in. While I'm checking us in, a very nice woman who worked for the airline went over to check on my mom. Mom and I both think she may have been slightly mentally handicapped. I truly believe the Lord sends people like that woman to make up for all the "whole" people that don't care about others. She got my mom a wheelchair, sat with her until I came back from the counter, and found someone to help us through security and to our gate. Thank God for her. Everyone else had just looked through us.

When we got back to NY, they unloaded us last and brought a wheelchair on the plane to get my mom, as Boston Logan had made note of that for us. Our towncar driver was so unbelievably helpful getting her in the car, out of it, and to her house. And I thought people in the NY/NJ area were supposed to be the rudest, uncaring-est of the bunch. I always knew that was wrong!

Well I'm totally disgusted. I apologize on behalf of the inconsiderate pinheads you encountered at Logan airport. All of us from the Boston area aren't like that.
