Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Boston in July

Tentative plan here for July. A short 2 or 3 night trip to Boston for just my wife and me. Thinking of staying at the Marriot Long Wharf on the harbor. We've stayed there twice (1987 & 2001) for company conventions and really liked the location.

Working on one of the neighbors taking the kids while we go and then we will do the same for them.

Re: Boston in July

You will love it in July! There's always plenty to do. You could check out the theater district or Chinatown but definitely make it to Fanuel Hall, great food and shopping! Usually during July there's street entertainment all the time. Bring your sunglasses and sunscreen and you'll be all set. We live in Plymouth and we love to go on dates in Boston or take the kids. When the kids are with us we usually go to the Science Musuem or the New England Aquarium and just last year we brought them to Blue Man Group. That show is so much fun with or without the kids! If you like seafood go to Legal Seafoods in the theater district and if you like pastries, they have many different choices in Fanuel Hall. Have a great time! If you have any questions, just ask!

Re: Boston in July

I hope you have a great time!! My husband and I lived right in Boston for quite a few years before we bought our house, and really love our city. We actually used to live right in the North End within walking distance of the Marriott Long Wharf. Will you be in town for the July 4th festivities on the Esplanade? Please feel free to email me or post any questions if you want any dining suggestions or directions anywhere.

Re: Boston in July

You used to live around here if I remember correctly. If you haven't been back for a while and would like some recommendations, I'll be happy to offer a few. Not sure what you have in mind but...if you're sports fans there's the Red Sox, Bay State Cruises offers summer music cruises, The Samuel Adams Brewery conducts tours of the museum and brewery. For dinner, if you want seafood I'd recommend Anthony's Pier 4 or Jimmy's Harborside; Italian, anyplace in the North End. Hope this helps.

Yes, I was raised in Worcester County. I'd like to see the USS Constitution again. Take a harbor cruise and go over to Fanuel Hall again. Ride the T to visit one of my wifes Uncles. Drop into Cheers again.

Re: Boston in July

Now that you mention it, there is a replica of the "Cheers" tv bar at Faneuil Hall. That might be worth a look see.

Re: Boston in July

What about Pop's Goes the Fourth? Has anyone done that? We watch it on TV every year & keep saying we're going to go but never seem to plan it. I think that would be a VERY cool way to spend the Fourth!

Have fun Don!

Re: Boston in July

Don, having grown up 3 miles away from Boston (in Somerville), and worked in Boston (on Court Street for 6 years), there is still so much I haven't done yet!

*Recently saw Blue Man Group - LOVED IT!!!
*Gotta do a Duck Tour - I haven't yet but my kids did with my parents - LOVED IT! (Quack Quack)
*Italian Food - anywhere in the North End, but don't forget about Mike's Pastry!!!
*Riding the T - well, my dad drove buses for the T for 20 years or so and my best friend's dad was a conductor on the train for longer than than and I STILL LOVE to ride the T - my kids do too!
*The Constitution is free, so that's a great place, maybe do the Freedom Trail and get the Bunker Hill Monument in there too?!

I could go on and on! You may need another trip! PM me if I can help further!

Re: Boston in July

You'll have a great time. And yeah, the Long Wharf is a great location.

You've got the aquarium next door, which got a major facelift in the last couple of years. Faneuil Hall, which has some new upscale restaurants. Can walk to the Constitution, etc., etc.

Right across from the Hotel there's old reliable Legals. Though it's obnoxiously packed all the time.

Litterally right around the corner from Legals is a newer spot, Sel de la Terre. Outstanding! One of our faves.

In faneuil, there's Kingfish Hall. Great spot to sit outside for drinks/apetizers (has a great raw bar). Dinner's been a little hit and miss but we love the apps outside. In Faneuil, I'd stay away the Plaza III/Kansas City Steak House and McCormick and Schmicks. Both are 2 time losers for us and not gettin a third chance.

Also in Faneuil, it never hurts to take a look at who the national act is at Comedy Connection. They get some big name funny guys. And laughing that hard is like years of therapy condensed to an hour an a half Worth checking the Bostix booth too for last minute theater tickets.

If you feel like riding the T over to Cambridge (aka, The Peoples Republic ), Summer Shack has quickly become "the" favorite seafood. About 15 minutes on the red line. Worth the trip.

If you're over by the Constitution and starving around 5:00, there's the original Todd English favorite, Olives. Great spot. They don't take reservations though and people line up about 4:30-4:45 for the first tables. Don't do fish at Olive's. Everything else is outstanding.

Over by the hotel, (litterally right next door) you can do a Friday or Saturday sunset cocktail cruise on the Schooner Liberty. These are great! The ships a beauty and they keep the numbers low. Really nice on a clear evening with incredible skyline views. They also do a Sunday brunch trip though we've never done that one.

Right off the wharf you can also do a whale watch. If you go though, make sure you book on the high speed cat. Otherwise it's the slow boat to china. These are really nice on a brutally hot day cause it's about 20 degrees cooler out there. Always LOTS of whales right up against the boat.

Of course it wouldn't be right if I didn't suggest a Sox game. Fridays are night games, Saturdays and Sundays are days or late afternoon. Tough to beat Fenway on a summer day.

Finally (and last but not least) I'd say our favorite restaurant in town is still Hamersly's Bistro. It's an oldie, but it's just really, really, really great. Has outside tables in the summer.

Hopefully we'll have some nice weather for ya!

Re: Boston in July

Hey, DisnyDad, you were raised in Worcester County? That is where I am from! ( And still am!!!)

Would love to hear more about your roots!

I was born & raised in Worcester near the summit/Burncoat St., & now I live just outside Worcester in a bordering town.

You missed a very LLOOONNGG winter here! Although I bet you didn't miss it at all!

( I am really psyched today, because I got my CRT this am!)
