As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Help - Family Vacation??
SO my family announced that they want to all go away for Christmas next year for a week. We consist of my parents (Mom, 53 and Dad, 54 at time of trip. Mom is into luxury, shopping, tours, museums, etc. Dad is into water sports and relaxing. How they are still married after 30 years I will never know. ), my sister and her husband (sis, 26 and BIL, 27 - both very active, he scubas, runs triathlons, etc. She runs and other than that is a spa, luxury girl) and us!! (Me, 29 and DH, 30 - Disney Freaks, not particularly active, never really been anywhere so are up for anything!) And no, anything Disney is not an option.
Here's the other thing - they don't want to go anywhere they've already been. This rules out Hawaii, London, Australia, most of Italy, Bermuda, most of the U.S.V.I, anywhere in Florida or California. Phew!!
Here's what we are considering: France (the Cote D'Azur), Italy (Florence) or Little Dix Bay in the Caribbean. Any suggestions about what we are thinking or anyplace we haven't thought of??? Price is not so much of a concern but Tahiti is probably out of the question!
Thanks!!

How about the Poconos?
Heart shaped tubs...champagne glass whirlpools...bears...closed stores...
Seriously...how about a cruise?

Re: Help - Family Vacation??
Wow - this is not going to be an easy one to arrange! I'm interested to hear where you settle on. Real shame Disney isn't an option...
I've heard a lot of good things about both the Cote d'Azur and Florence, although I've never been to either. At least the weather should be warm in both places at Christmas! You could also make it a two centre stop if you go to Florence and also visit Rome or Venice. I've done both and had a great time in them, although we did prefer Venice, but it was cold when we went there at the end of November.
It could be worth checking what will be closed over Christmas and when. According to my holiday brochures, the Cote d'Azur should just be Christmas Day, but in Florence, they've also got a public holiday on 26 December.
Hope this helps!

How about skiing in the Alps?
--visiting Spain, either Barcelona or one of the Canary Islands?
--or celebrating the holidays in exotic Rio de Janeiro?
Please let us know your final destination.

Re: Help - Family Vacation??
I'd stay from Greece until after the Olympics! We were thinking about going next year and my uncle said wait until 2005 when things are more "normal".

Re: Help - Family Vacation??
Have you checked out Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda in the BVI? Wonderful place, and over the years, they have really worked hard at attracting families. They even have some special programming for the kids. The pool is wonderful, and if you are into boats, you can try them all! It is an all-inclusive (except for alcohol) so, really you can do it all. They offer some kind of tour (snorkeling, visits to the Baths etc.) just about everyday, and they are also included in your price. My DH and I really enjoy ordering a picnic lunch and taking out the Boston Whalers for the day. You can find a deserted beach just for your own for the day.
We always choose to stay in the beachfront villas. Good sized room, with a great bathroom (you can see the water while your shower!) and a porch to die for. Because this resort attracts a large boating crowd, while it is upscale, you never get that feeling. You never have to put on your best outfits for any meals. We love the place. Definately give the web site a look.

Re: Help - Family Vacation??
Little Dix really does sell itself as family friendly. With actual daily programing of organized kids activities. Pretty rare in a resort of it's caliber. And the British Virgin Islands are absolutely breathtaking. About as fun, low key, relaxing, and beautiful as it gets anywhere.
Plus it's so quick and easy to get down there. And with the addtion US Air to the mix, American no longer has a monopoly on the Caribbean routes (fares are half what they where a year ago).
Now that fares are more reasonable, we'll deffinitely get back down there a whole lot sooner

Re: Help - Family Vacation??
Oops! Guess I should have clarified - there are no kids in our group. Right now it is looking like Little Dix Bay. (Although that may change depending on how family friendly it is. We are looking for an elegant resort, not a "family-oriented" resort.) Thanks for all the feedback and great ideas guys!

Re: Help - Family Vacation??
I thought you had kids with you. In that case, if you're still thinking about the BVI...I highly, highly, highly recommend Peter Island . Honeymooned there last December. Unbelievable! 50 rooms on a private island paradise. Would go back in a second!
Also came close to going to Biras Creek. We'll probly try Biras at some point. Though, given the choice, it'd be tough not to go back to PI.
If you haven't already, be sure to Check out ScubaMom's site. Detailed, lengthy reviews and pictures based on her visits to a number of Caribbean resorts (including Peter, Biras, Little Dix and BEYC). Really helped us in deciding.
